Inside scoop about Gretsch Catalina Maple.

Kaman seized the production of previous Catalina Maple Kits manufactured in China because of the overwhelming complaints worldwide against their quality. Catalina Maples now are made in Taiwan. Better quality but a bit pricy..

Tama have their own factory in china compared to Gretsch OEM lang.

Gretsch Catalina Maple Issues.

No.1 SHELLS. Inconsistent quality. When i bought mine 5 years ago. It took me 4 boxes to find a perfect set ofSHELLS
No.2 Check the 12in tom. Most of them are inconsistent in color. Palagay ko ibang kwarto ginagawa to kasi consistent from set to set.
No3. Drum hardware(Not the Gibraltar) Madaming bumigay mga lugs, tom arms, clamps loosen, and snare strainer.

that's 3 to name a few. Even JB can't deny that.

Sir, wala pong binebentang Catalina Maple Snare only. Renown Maple meron, pero Catalina wala. Unless 2nd hand na binebenta.. Maganda yun Catalina Maple snare equipped with Evans G1 coated or Evans Genera Dry sa batter.. Baka mahanap niyo hinahanap niyong snare sound :-)
Planning for a Band Rehearsal Studio business. Baka may alam kayong space for rent around QC area lang. Please PM me. Thank you.

i stopped using the snare of the Catalina two months after i bought the set way back in 2007. i find the snare of the catalina maple to be the weakest among the pieces of the kit. wala halos snare bed (or wala nga ata) kaya ang hirap i-tono ng maayos. the sympathetic vibrations of the wires were also more of a problem compared to different snare drums. normal lang magkaron ng snare buzz, pero mas malala ng konti yung sa gretsch. the sound was still too thin for my own taste as well kahit pa napalitan ko na yung stock batter and reso drumheads and after trying various tunings. bagong snare drum ang isa sa mga una kong binili noon dahil di ko talaga magustuhan yung tunog nung snare ng catalina.

these are just my opinions, though. as always, different strokes for different folks pagdating sa tunog. durability-wise naman, nasa pag-aalaga mo na yan. :)

same with may catalina snare, what i did is, bumili ako ng bagong reso head(single ply, 7mil yata yun, basta hindi sya yung kadalasan na manipis na snare reso head) and new snare wires(Giblartar), i tuned the reso head lower than the batter head( parang nasa C or B yung batter at around A yung reso) before putting the new snare wires, and that killed the irritating buzz. kapag masyadong thin, or ma buzz na ang tunog ng snare drums, icheck mo muna si snare wires kung may loose na wire, yun ang indicator na kailangan mo na syang palitan.

Here is some pics of crack mid tom holder, actually d ako nakasira nito ung 1st owner, Not a big issue naman sakin Hehe, just incase lang san nakakabili ng ganito? Sa JB music pa din ba? And magkano kaya?

Ako kasi no idea basta JB music eh tiwala akong orig, i have the official receipt from the 1st owner na JB music nya nabili yun.
