Pag nagkapera ulet. Hehehe. I'm a big fan of Wilkinson. I might get a Wilkinson compensated 3-saddle bridge. At least malapit pa sa classic look. Anyway, I've heard rants about how a vintage-style bridge (w/ its brass saddles) doesn't intonate that well. Kaya nga daw nadevelop yung compensated saddles.
As to the string-thru conversion, I think it'll cost me a pretty penny. I'd have to look for ferrules pa.
Next priority would be pickups muna. I'm thinking of throwing in GFS ones. (c/o BossingBoss) Hehehe. SD is also an option pero medyo mahaba-habang ipunan muna yun. :P
I'm starting to rebuild my electric setup again. Nabenta ko na kasi lahat ng gamit ko before.

nice... tread for Squier guitars. Im using a Squier Strat MIJ silver series. Had it years ago as a gift from my dad, and I still use it today. I had changed the pups though with GFS texas pups. Dami na niang battle scars. I'll try to post some pix tom.
Anyone knows a site to see the details of the guitar through it's serial number? I would like to know the date my squier was manufactured and the details. ty

I'm satisfied with the stock alnico SC pick-ups of my fat strat. I only replaced the HB with a DM Super Distortion since its too bright too me. :-D
i also find my squier affinity strat (burst w/maple fretboard) too bright and trebly. i am not going to replace my stock sc pu's though. i'll just find a way to make them out of phase. also, the paint chips easily...which i like because it hastens the relicing process. :evil: i also like its large headstock.
although i am really a les paul and rg person, i find my squier strat a very nice solid guitar. :-)

I like the brightness of the SC's on my Squier, it really sounds stratty IMO. It also excels in low gain to medium gain OD tones. It's a good match with my TS-7 and SD-2. :-D

+1 i agree with this. :-) the only setback for me is that the sound/tone reminds me of ramon jacinto performing on stage with his strat. his licks are great and i try to cop him every now and then...but his dance moves...ack!!! :lol:

This guitar looks awesome. This is my all-around guitar right now. I'm still planning to do mods like having a bone nut installed and I'll have it rewired that one tone control is for both neck & middle pick-ups while the other tone control will be for the bridge. I'm also having a push-pull pot placed on the bridge tone control so that I can have the HB split for SC type sound in the bridge.

early 90's Fender Squire (Medyo dirty white pa ang color ink ng serial number) - made in Japan with Seymour Duncan "Jazz Model" in neck and Seymour Duncan "Hot Rails" sa bridge, push/pull and body string thru sya.. vintage blonde as per picture, solid maple neck and alder body..
Hey Ponky! I really like what you did with your Tele. :-) What pickups did you install at the neck & where did you get them? Who installed them as well?
Favorite ko talaga yung iyo on how you "pimed" that Tele.. :wink:
thanks man, I bought all the hardware & pick-ups from GFS courtesy of BossingBoss. many thanks to him :-) The neck pup is a GFS humbuck size P90. All set-up, including rerouting of the neck pup cavity & convertion from top loader to string thru on the bridge, was done by MAng Max Rufo. So far ok naman results sa pandinig ko :-). Not sure if will sound close to a real string thru tele. I might bring it sa National Gas day para ma pa-test sa mga expert. :-D

Yung Squier Strat ko ay agathis body according sa fender customer support (nagemail ako sa kanila). Mas magaan sya compared sa mga strat na nagamit ko na. Bright ang tunog, though yung sustain di matagal (3-4 seconds lang) sa clean tone. Ganito ba talaga katagal ang sustain?

i haven't heard wilkinson PUs yet. so between the vintage tele and the noiseless, i'd go for the vintage. para sa akin, yung noiseless medyo bawas yung tunog ng twang, tone, and character tele's are known for. i-shield mo na lang yang affinity mo para mabawasan yung ingay.

'92 squier silver series po...naturally relic'd due to use (abuse)...previous owner painted it over with "ochre yellow", pero inistrip off ko to its original paint(as it shows cream na sa sobrang gamit)...thanks... kinda reminds me of hendrix' strat... :-D :-D 8-) 8-) 8-)
sir astig! :-o yung placement ng autobot sticker nyo sa tele ah. nicely done. hehe. actually i have the same kind of sticker from comic alley ren pero its a decepticon logo na nilagay ko sa bolt for the neck on my strat copy since that's the only "chromey" part of a strat. hehe. wala pa ko pics nung sa strat ko. sir if you don't mind panakaw ng idea hehehe. balak ko ren maglagay dun sa knobs plate ng standard tele ko pero decepticon logo naman. if you don't mind. :-D i know it's kinda dumb and weird to ask permission from you..hehe just wanna respect your idea and give consent to the guy i ripped off. i also think na normal lang yun. kasi kahit yung ibang designed tremolo even with the best materials used e nag-kakaproblem din with use. it is quite a metal on metal sound. parang loose thread na tunog from the trem bar. normal lang ba yun? i think so after a time of use. anong ok na gawin para at least ma minimize yung noise? teflon kaya... :-D

i also think na normal lang yun. kasi kahit yung ibang designed tremolo even with the best materials used e nag-kakaproblem din with use. it is quite a metal on metal sound. parang loose thread na tunog from the trem bar. normal lang ba yun? i think so after a time of use. anong ok na gawin para at least ma minimize yung noise? teflon kaya... :-D
hmmm...not sure..pero logically teflon tape just might minimize the "clangy" noise. pero personally I'd rather not wrap anything around the treads of the trem bar. pero that's just me... :-D try mo kaya. then update back na lang for your review on the matter..haha. thanks sa idea! i just might try the same..hehe :-D

Depends on my mood.
normally mas gusto ko tunog ng single coils over HBs. The Suhr pickups installed on the butterscotch add the right attitude to the twang, esp for blues/ country blues. may pagka-sophisticated yung dating. mas magaan rin siya because of the alder body. the custom is agathis.
But there are days na namimiss ko yung iyak ng humbuckers. pag gusto ko mag-feeling rockstar yung custom yung ikinakabit ko sa kwarto. :-D of the two the neck of the custom also has a nicer feel.
I guess I like em both, and hard-pressed to let go of either one. they're completely different guitars. :-)

i suggest you try it first... as for me, i am very much contented with the affinity series of my friend when i first tried it... the neck and the fingerboard suits my taste... i have done a lot of research so now i am very much ready to buy one... regalo ko sa sarili ko sa pasko... though mahirap mag-ipon kasi college na... sir san nyo balak bumili ng guitar? sa PP ba or yupangco? may idea kayo sa price ng standard telecaster ng squier? may nakita ako na thread na nagbebenta ng red arctic burst na squier standard telecaster 16k... i think the price is too much... may idea ba kayo sir sa exact price?

Galing akong Yupangco kanina. Actually wala silang stocks ng mga Squier Tele. Nakita ko lang na Squier Tele yung sig guitar ni Avril. Iinform nila ako pag dumating na ang mga stocks. Ang Affinity daw is 9k-10k (di sila sure kasi tumaas daw yung price) yung standard ata is 12k. May 10% discount daw pag cash ang bayad mo. Oo nga... mahirap mag-ipon pag malapit ng mag college. Bibilhin ko yung akin sa Yupangco. :-D Ganda talaga ng mga guitar sa Yupangco. Ang daming Fenders! :-D

Sir, 11,950php ang saktong price ng Squier Standard Tele. I bought mine last august and if I'm not mistaken all of the Standard teles ran out nung September pa raw at wala pa raw balita kung kelan magkakaron ulet according to a yupangco employee, and about comparison sa affinity wala akong idea. pero not to be bragging or anything, ok na ok ang Standard Tele ng Squier (Indonesian). i was lucky enough to compare it to a 1991 Fender Tele (MIJ) and di masyadong nagkakalayo sa craftsmanship ng guitar overall and feel ng neck. pero sa pups rineg ang difference, but not really noticeable to the average listener. and also about the 16k na standard na binebenta sa classifieds...well mark-up lang un ng seller kase limited lang ang stock ng Standard Telecasters at wala ka nang makukuha sa yupangco as of now, He's just taking advantage of the rarity and demand of that guitar. and by the way, share ko lang experience ko sa "Vintage Modified" na series of Squier Strats (Crafted in India)..well i have to say that i was rather disappointed, cosmetics were GREAT don't get me wrong pero yung feel ng neck and tone was just above average for my taste and i feel na not worth it ung guitar for the price of 16k. Overall ang marerecomend ko sa line-up ng Squier na available sa pinas..well sa ngayon wala na or wala pang bagong dateng ay ang STANDARD SERIES nila na strats and Teles. They're well worth the price for what you get. :-D hope this helps. :-)

based on the very vague info i have on comparing affinities and standards..ang first obvious difference are the number of frets..squier standards come with 22's and affinities come with 21's if I'm not mistaken. :-D

In fact I find it comparable to MIM Fender strat with alder body that I tried at perfect pitch. However, it dents easily. Any similar experience or am I just not too careful with my guitar? :)

Well, sa aking experience ok ang agathis body tone wise,like how i said in my previous comment about comparing with a Fender MIJ tele. baka sa paint job lang un bro, kase yung saken (refering to my agathis tele) first night na nakuha ko siya from yupangco, habang pinupunasan ko, nalaglag yung guitar sa edge ng pedal board ko which is bakal, at alam kong for sure merong tama na malupet, at solid yung blow tapos tumayo balahibo ko sa hinayang na hindi na ok yung paint job niya na wala pang 24 oras saken yung tele, BUT fortunately enough, WALANG SCRATCH AT ALL! no exaggeration, seryoso. :-D

i think yung mga 90's era na Squire yung plywoods nila. pero the best in craftmanship yung 80s era na squire. yung mgalatest na labas nila ay solidwood na. anyway, just check din yung body. meron sila affinity series na agathis/ alder combination but i don't think it is a big deal. kase sa akin, importante yung tunog at feel ng neck.

unfortunately hindi yata familiar ang yupangco with the CV (classic vibe) series. ang tagal ko nang kinukulit yung mga sales clerks dun para i-suggest na mag-stock sila.
i'm seriously GAS-ing for a 50's Classic Vibe Tele. Dami ko nang nakikitang magandang reviews about it. i'm sure pati yung CV strats maganda rin.

pero minsan di accurate ang website. general overview lang ang nilalagay nila. just for example, di nakalagay sa website nila yung agathis/ alder combination ng body. di rin nila sinasabi don na iba iba pa rin ang indonesia, china at india made guitars nila. siguro the best way is to ask the sale rep sa yupangco o tignan ang manual/ sticker/ spec sa store mismo.

haha, correct. actually kahet sales rep nila minsan di ren kabisado items nila eh, best way to get to know these guitars talaga is to try them first hand and read the label/sticker on them, at FYI ulet.hehe walang sticker/label ng specifications ang mga Vintage Modified ( INDIAN )na naka stock sa yupangco-galleria branch...kaya frustrated ako nung itinry ko ung Vi. modified na strat sa kanila eh, kase nung nagtanong ako doon kung ano specs di ren nila masagot dahel wala ngang label or baka tinamad lang tumingin sa record.hehe. di lang ako sure kung sa kanila lang yung mga ganun, check nyo ren sa main or other branches, sana merong mga labels ung mga nandun, kung wala baka ito talaga ang case with Indian made squiers unlike the indonesian ones i saw months ago (around june to august lahat may label). oo tama naalala ko nga... dun sa sticker ng standard tele ko nakalagay alder/agathis combination pero sa site nila agathis lang. mas mahirap yun sa case ng mga INDIAN kase mag babase ka lang ng specs sa website at hindi 100% sure un. pero who knows...kase i've seen reviews ng mga ibang tao sa net saying that ok ang customer support ng squier-gutiars, one e-mail away lang naman sila for inquiries about their products. :-D sana nakatulong. :-D

oo tama! hehe. same price ren saken. ayos yun, 1k+ lang bayad mo every month for a year. and i have to say ganda talaga ng craftsmanship at tone ng standard series. pero there's this one thing lang na naasar ako, a few months ago i tried to remove the stock strap pins when a friend gave me strap locks para i won't have to worry about my guitar's strap pins accidentaly slipping out of the strap at malaglag ang tele ko..so there i was unscrewing the stock pins and then screwing in the new pair of dunlop strap lock pins. then i realized that those screws don't fit in snuggly into the pin screw treads of the body, they would "screw in" but if you try pulling them out with just a small amount of force they would slip out--i got pissed so i went to a lutheir and had them fixed...then "TADA!!" ok na siya! just a word of precaution to my fellow squier or more specifically standard users (this may not be the case for everyone..i hope not). this may be or may not be a common thing pero still just to be sure, share ko na lang para dun sa mga balak mag strap locks or should i say "STRAP LOKS" for dunlop users..hehe. :-D

+1 sa strat as a good beginner guitar (well, in very general sense). kung may kakilala ka sa states na pauwi, pabili ka na lang sa kanya...afaik $99 lang ang se at bullet strat sa us.

california series matagal na based from what i know ang affinity medyo bago bago pa.
both are MIC (made in china) so IMO either would be okay i guess kung yun ang choices mo, pero kung price ang usapan bili ka na lang ng 2nd hand na calif series kasi ang alam ko discontinued na yun, if not wala lang talaga available locally. pero if you're not comfortable with buying 2nd hand, go for the affinity.

ung white early 90s na korean squier sya if im not mistaken..hehe..hot rodded na..gotoh tuners, ashtray type bridge saddles, pina string thru, ung 3 way switch and pots napalitan na, string trees are roller type, pups are from a US fender tele and nag lagay na din ng oil caps 2 months ago..this one is a keeper..sobrang sweet ng tone!!!
the other one is a master thinline..wine red..all stock..wla pa ko maisip na upgrades eh..

upgraded the pickups to schaller/dimarzio vintage pickups, yung bridge pinalitan namin all-solid type bridgetrem with fender stamped saddles, hehehehhe...

why? what happened to the orig saddles? it has to have a stamped on it too,,,mine is all stock pa,,,love the sound of it too,you can par it with current fender strats :-) coz originaly Squier japan,is Fender twang na..Export type,,yung domestic market yung mga nakafender decal,, :wink: squier decals are export type,,,for UK and US market but for instances some Squier's especialy E serial with the JV decal with fender stamped saddles are for domestic japan market only..

AFAIK, dalawang wood ang gamet sa body ng standard series, which is alder and agathis. and yeah, alder ang nasa affinity series. :-)

partly yes. pero minsan depende sa gumagamit ng gitara kung anong mas gusto nyang tonewood.

Eheads = I saw them at an mtv live event on tv using squire (circa 90's) orange and lemmons = clem used a vintage 52' squire blonde pupil = i saw them on tv ysing squire strat pedicab = j.sonic uses squire tele and squire telecaster custom. now he uses fender 72 custom tele..but still a custom tele. marcus = squirre hello kitty used in eheads farwell concert
i tested a squire custom tele with duncan pu at perfect pitch..hell yeah it can rock..plugged in gt-10 there and jc120 amp cool :) I own a fender but im getting a squire too..im choosing between hello kitty and custom tele

Agathis The wood is commonly used in the manufacture of mid-ranged guitars, due to its good resonating properties, yet relatively low price of production.
Alder It is popular as a material for electric guitar bodies, provides a brighter, resonant, well-rounded tone with excellent sustain than any other woods.
Matagal na akong nagresearch about this. As for me, I totally prefer buying an Affinity Series (Special Edition) than buying a Standard. I'll just convert it to string-through and make some necessary upgrades. Mas swabe for me 8-)

squire custom tele with duncan pick-ups na built in 19k yun :) fat ang tunog parang hindi tele pero astig din sa dist. yung fender tele std. na MIM almost 25k :)

Great upgrades jdawg! I totally agree on the tone yield when changing the bridge and nut. I remember a luthier telling me: "To really change your tone, upgrade the parts the are in direct contact with the strings to get greater outcome in the desired tone change."

haha, ganun pala. thanks for the insights sir. nakita ko na po before ung 57 niyo sa fender thread, yun di po ang first impression ko sa strat niyo.haha ala rory gallager ung pagka-age niya, now that's what you call a relic! actually i have an MIJ strat copy with a neck that had big crack at the headstock. so i had the neck replaced with a one piece maple neck from elegee. i don't know, but there's something about one piece maple necks that enchants me. :-D

oh, i see. based on the serial number, your guitar was made in 2008 at the Cort Factory in indonesia, based on the intials IC (which means indonesia-cort and the first two digits 08) at least according to my research. i have the same telecaster in blonde btw. :-D sir, based on the label with the guitar and specsheet on the net, it says that squier's standard teles are made of agathis bodies, have you had any other guitar made from agathis?

Yeah, I spent about an hour looking all that up this afternoon too. Actually the little squier sticker on the plastic on the pickguard says alder/agathis.
From what I have read, basically they are the same woods, but I've never had an agathis guitar before.
At least it's not plywood, hehe.

Yeah, I spent about an hour looking all that up this afternoon too. Actually the little squier sticker on the plastic on the pickguard says alder/agathis.
From what I have read, basically they are the same woods, but I've never had an agathis guitar before.

I have had love and hate relationships with telecasters my whole life. I prefer strats most of the time, when I have a really hard rock mood, I prefer my Les Paul. But - there is just this sound off of a telecaster that can't be found on any other guitar. It's just unique.
I do like to play a lot of Rolling Stones - ish music and for that, a tele is a must.
I've had them, sold them and everytime I don't have one - I gotta find another one.
Speaking of the HAMER Goldtop with P-90's, I have one also and it is an awesome guitar. Also a very unique tone. Definitely a keeper.

I have this red Squier Strat...problem is that it has no serial no. and as I checked further I found out that its a Squier Affinity series (based on the decal on its headstock). There's no marking where and when it was made/manufactured...

AFAIK, Affinities are made in china. and about the serial number, early china squiers have them on stcker labels that are easily removed AFAIK din. hope this helps. :-D

Correct. I've seen Squier Strats and Teles in Perfect Pitch that had no serial numbers on them. Those Squier SE100 packs that has the Squier that is a cross between an affinity and a standard strat with the little 10 watt squier amplifier don't have serial numbers on them either.
Lots of the earlier China models like mentioned above had them on a sticker on the back of the headstock or down by the neck joint. They looked butt ugly, so most people just took them off.

My understanding is that the later model Indonesian and early Chinese strats were made of agathis. The Japanese, Korean and early Indonesian models were made of Alder. Not all Affinity strats are made in China. Affinity Strats have been around since the late 1990's and I believe were initially made in Indonesia.
The difference between an affinity and a standard is in the thickness of the body. The affinity strat is much thinner than the standard strat.
I have been told that the new strats, made in China are made of basswood.

That I am not sure about. I think most of the Squiers had eleven screw pickguards, but someone could have changed that to get a more vintage look out of it.

yeap, i agree with what doc said. i was thinking the same thing. i guess the guys at the factory/ in manufacturing went for the vintage look approach. :-D hence the 8 screwholes. :-)

Also slapped in: GFS vintage-style bridge with solid steel bloc, Sperzel locking tuners, CTS pots, allparts 3-way switch and switchcraft input jack. Knobs from PJC. Chrome control plate by Jon Elegee and custom 3-ply pickguard by Arie Hipolito. 1 kill switch and the other is set to a "out of phase" switch. 0.22 oil in paper capacitor from jmorrero. I'm really happy with the new pickups, now she sounds really sweet to my ears.
I know you have a squire tele, and I'm sure you'd agree that Squires are fun guitars and great platform for modding :-)

pretty much, except for the string trees and the bone nut, and i added pickup springs for the neck since it didn't have any, they were just mounted on a sponge thinggy..replaced it with a pair of springs i got from pilot ballpens. :lol:

Got your pm bro.. Regrets are really frustrating but in my experience, in the end it's better to just let go. I also had a silver series too not long ago. It was a 90's mij squire tele that I let go (which I miss) but in my case it's just with my vocalist so during jams I'm glad I still get to play it a bit.
I'm sure a strat out your door, in return another strat (which you really like) will eventually come back in. Hope you get that Fender for Christmas! :-)

in most perfect pitch branches meron yan. around 15k. it's the Vintage Modified Series. comes in: sunburst-black pickguard, white-tortoise pickguard, cherryburst-white pickguard, metallic red-red pic guard.

up ko lang. i was in yamaha greenhills yesterday, saw and played around with a jagmaster. good neck and finish, i liked the duncan designed HB's on them. it's 17k...good guitar IMHO. (MIC siya)
and
i saw this Standard Series indonesia strat S-S-H pups, "mintish green" color pup covers and pguard and it costs 29k...and is on sale for 22k....stay away from that (i tried it...meh) kahit mga staff dun nagtataka kung bakit 29k ang reg. price nun.
and just to add info for the benefit of everyone
recent 09 and late 08 squier models of the standard series are MIC. and for the rest of the models above the standard our indonesian. i guess since china's been upping the ante on their build quality...this became the result. IMHO China's catching up with Indonesia's craftsmanship, and some indo's i've tried lately have been of "meh" quality. :-)

i suggest you try it first... as for me, i am very much contented with the affinity series of my friend when i first tried it... the neck and the fingerboard suits my taste... i have done a lot of research so now i am very much ready to buy one... regalo ko sa sarili ko sa pasko... though mahirap mag-ipon kasi college na... sir san nyo balak bumili ng guitar? sa PP ba or yupangco? may idea kayo sa price ng standard telecaster ng squier? may nakita ako na thread na nagbebenta ng red arctic burst na squier standard telecaster 16k... i think the price is too much... may idea ba kayo sir sa exact price?
sir nasa 12k, if cash makukuha mo sya ng almost 11k..kapag credit card eh i think almost 12k...Pefect pitch and yamaha po yancash kasi yun standard tele ko..hope na natulungan po kita.

may tanong lang ako sa mga Squier 51 users, pag ba pinalitan ko yung pickups nung 51 ko dapat eh G-spaced? sabi kasi sa wiki eh mas narrower daw yung spacing ng pickups ng 51 kumpara sa ibang Squiers :? thanks! :-D

titignan ko yung rails ng Artec. mas affordable compared to SD or Dimarzio.
sobrang trebly and shrill lang kasi ng stock Duncan Designed bridge pickup ko kaya gusto ko palitan.

*disclaimer: uunahan ko na yung mga magsasabing nagyayabang lang ako. wla sa guitara yan. pipitsugin lang yan kumpara sa collection ng iba. gusto ko lang ipakita na kahit na may mga masasabing maayos na guitara ka, ang squier, kung piniling mabuti, maganda tunog at ok tlga sha, hindi dapat ikahiya. mas madali ngang gamitin kasi kahit masira eh di ka mapapa-aray :P

Originally a Squier California Tele.
At first it had the two single coils with a tortoise pickguard. I put a white pickguard on there.
Then I put a GFS vintage split humbucker at the neck. It has also been converted to string through body and has spertzel style locking tuners.
I stuck the Fender decal on there. It's a keeper and I would never try to sell it as a Fender, but I'd put it up against any Fender Tele out there.
ung white early 90s na korean squier sya if im not mistaken..hehe..hot rodded na..gotoh tuners, ashtray type bridge saddles, pina string thru, ung 3 way switch and pots napalitan na, string trees are roller type, pups are from a US fender tele and nag lagay na din ng oil caps 2 months ago..this one is a keeper..sobrang sweet ng tone!!!
the other one is a master thinline..wine red..all stock..wla pa ko maisip na upgrades eh..
stripped pain to natural finish change bridge pickup to artec double rails remove 2nd tone control and use a master tone control added killswitch

Squier Pro-Tone guitars were produced at the Cort factory in Korea. and marked the first real quality Squier to come from there. Made between 1996 and 98 and with a UK retail price of £339.95
...vintage style unit with 'Fender stamped' hardened steel saddles. Machineheads/tuners for the 6 string models are Fender's own schaller lookalikes. Three staggered pole alnico pickups ....
The bodies of these guitars were made from one piece, all the way up to four or even five pieces of solid ASH... were fairly heavy, but the build quality was first class.
"......there was a time not so long ago where the Squier range came up and overlapped into the Fender range. We had some high-end Squier guitars that many people thought should be Fenders, and so to make it simple, we decided that it would be better for the Squiers to remain the entry-level thing"

Squier is a second-line guitar company that sells low cost products akin to those of Fender Guitars, which was not always the case. Read History of Squier Guitars.
Squier’s trademark comes from the Squiers, an English immigrant family. The family’s first settler, Jerome Bonaparte Squier, built and repaired violins together with his son in Boston during the late 19th century. Victor Carroll Squire, Jerome’s son, eventually settled at Battle Creek, Michigan, where he founded his own string shop named V.C. Squier Company. The company’s first contact with Fender came in the 1950s, when Squier began making electric guitar strings for Fender’s first products.
- Fun Fact: When Fender bought out Squier Strings a few employee splintered off to form GHS Strings.
Squier stayed a string making firm until 1965, when it was acquired by Fender. After that, the name wasn’t heard of again until 17 years later when Fender resurrected the brand for selling cheaper alternatives to their Strats and Telecasters. Before Squier, Fender had sold budget guitar models under labels such as Fender Lead. However, these brands couldn’t compete with Japanese-made cheaper electric guitar alternatives and brands as the Fender budget-guitar factory was situated in California.
With the Squier models being manufactured in Japan, Squier quickly rose to prominence as a second-line guitar brand. The first models with the Squier inscription on the headstock were reproductions of Fender’s most famous guitars: the ‘57 and ‘62 Strats, ‘57 and ‘62 Precision Basses, and ‘52 Telecasters. These models were of very high quality and are very valuable in the eyes of guitar collectors still to this day.
In 1985, the next prominent Squier series was introduced – the Squier Standard Series. These guitars had a vintage touch to them, but had the features required in contemporary guitars. Still, non-pickguard models and models with a modern tremolo system were merely mirroring Fender’s own technological advancements.
The first innovative designs under the Squier moniker came only in the mid 2000s; previously, the only innovative designs presented in Squier were fusions of Fender’s guitar models. 2006 saw the release of the Hello Kitty guitar line, and a vintage line was released a year later. Both of these guitar lines had something completely new about them – the design of ‘Hello Kitty’ models, and the pickup and pickguard modifications of the vintage models.
Despite the lack of original products brought to the table, Squier guitars have been an inspiration for the younger generation, hence its motto, “Squier. Stop dreaming, start playing!” The affordable, yet quality instruments Squier offers, still help many beginning guitarists start their playing experience with prime medium-class guitar models

i'm currently very happy with my Squier Vintage Modified stratocaster. i just joined a band and i'm using it for both rhythm and lead parts. the only modification i did on it so far was to upgrade the saddles and nut to Graphtech. i think the wood is starting to open up. can't wait to do further upgrades to it once my budget will allow. :-)

I'd go for the bullet series if I were you, although medyo hit or miss din mga bullet series(some are surprisingly good and others are just okay). Good platform for modifications and what not. And you mentioned that you are a beginner so I think spending more for a deluxe wouldn't really do a lot for you(just yet, I don't mean anything in a bad way). Good luck! :-)

I think the standard strats are offered with HSS config so that'll probably do for you(and I think they're in the 12k price range). For the tele's only humbucker equipped one's that I could think of are the Telecustom and the John 5. Or you could get a tele with single coils then upgrade them to humbuckers(rails type, artec, dimarzio, seymour duncan, a lot to choose from) and pickups like that could go from 1k-3k(rough estimate but I'm sure you could get them a lot cheaper in the classifieds here

nah, I'm an Ibby owner and I don't diss other guitars. In fact, I've always wanted a Squier! though wala pang budget hehe.

I got it from Yupangco... bale nag-email ako sa head office nila then nataon they told me may stock na nasa SM Southmall na Perfect Pitch so dun ko kinuha. If the branch nearest you does not have stocks, ihahanap ka nila ng stocks sa ibang branch.
May mga nakita din ako sa classified ads dito na nag-se-sell nung telecustom nila.

have the exact same guitar. upgraded it though. from maple to rosewood fingerboard, stock to fender noiseless pickups. pina clearcoat ko ung headstock pra ala classic vibe look but still retained the squire decal. and... stock bridge to wilkinson with big block. unrecognizable sound from before. sulit ung upgrades. proud squire owner here. :)

great guitar dude! ganitong ganito calif series ko. medyo inupgrade ko lang. maple to rosewood fretboard, stock to fender hot noiseless pickups... neck and mid, bridge pickup is now a dimarzio fast track 2, stock to wilkinson bridge with big steel block. kaya nang maki pag sabayan sa MIA na fender. proud squire user!

anything below the standard series are meh. (affinity, bullet)
go for standard, vintage modified, deluxe (if you find any locally) and the Classic Vibes.
(Classic vibes IMO, can go head to head with Fender standard MIMs in terms of build quality) and hindi sila nagkakalayo sa price.

posted in the micsis thread, my first electric guitar(squier), bought in 04-05, di nagamit ng ilang years sobrang nabulok na, i had it sent over to MicSis' shop.
dating white yung pickguard, pup covers nya. basic set up, bridge replaced to a wilkinson. it sounds wayyy different than it did before. pinabura ko yung headstock decal kasi natripan ko yung clean headstock ng mga strat projects ni micsis :p
hey congrats on the upgrades. really diggin your strat's new look. :)

Lahat ba ng squier guitars may serial number? Yung akin kasi wala ako makita. California series tele siya and it looks like john 5 tele na mirror pickguard but single coil siya and string thru unlike sa normal california series top loader and the pickups are different sa usual na calif series. The previous owner told me na this is a limited edition calif series and he bought it at singapore daw and I have read this forum na if a squier guitar is made only at a particular place they usually don't have seriel numbers. The tuners and neck plate has an embose of squier logo. Legit kaya to kahit walang serial number? Thanks in advance

Try mo kalasin yung neck and body. Most probably andun yan sa like my Squier or better yet email mo Fender support. They reply naman agad.

interesting, maybe the newer SEs are built better, or chamba lang sa unit OR even better, a mix of chamba and better built guitar.

I know the thing about JVs tho I haven't had one, so I can't tell the difference between the two. But this is definitely a player. It's actually way better than an MIM but not much like my US Strat yet. Wood, finish and overall construction is spotless. Frets are well rounded. Flatter 12 board radius on a modern C shape. Vintage staggered mid-scoopy alnico Vs for the single coils and a really hot HB bridge - almost close to passive EMGs I could say. Like I said, the only thing I didn't like on this model is the OFR... and maybe the 500k pots too. But you can tell that this one's a modern strat, so ya. I've heard and seen the traditional strat model and the teles and they too sound and looks well - so much that they don't deserve the "Squier" logo on the head. haha

oh that one, I've actually seen a number of these locally and whenever I see someone playing one at a gig, I do notice a
distinct "tone" with these things, hard to explain really but I can say that I like what I hear from these things.
Try changing out the pots with 250k Bourns then, you might like em.

Goodluck na lang sa pagpili or pagbili ng gitara. Last tip ko na lang, stick to sunbursts dahil mas iniimprove pa nila yung "Classic na vibe" kahit sa panlabas na anyo lang. Kapag nag solid colors ka kasi hindi halatang CV eh.

yea I tried sanding but it will take me a hundred years..I scraped it with a blade..guess what..di padin upaabot sa wood..I think they dipped the bass wood first sa parang plastic laquer or sealant na super kapal...then pinatuyo tsaka binugahan ng sunbrust..then nilagyan ng final coat.. super kapal sobra!!! kaya nga when I was trying to dent it with keys and some screwdrivers, ayaw magasgas..

For a newbie like me, the bullet strat is serving its purpose for me as a bedroom player since hindi ako nag gigig kaya di ko pa nasusubukan. I had to adjust the action on mine since it's way too high for my liking. The guitar feels light for my taste ( I think mine was made last 2011). one of the string trees fell out on the third day hahaha. Meron na kong mga parts na naipon para palitan yung ibang mga stock parts (pick ups, pots, output jack etc...) and just waiting for the mint green pickguard para isang kabitan na lang.
As for the stock sound, i could say i got my money's worth but nothing to write home about.
Am I happy with it? Yes. I'll see shortly kung may improvement ba dun sa mga ipapalit ko na mga parts.

ewan ko lang ha kasi nung 90's mga entry level guitars form korea, hindi naman ganito ka cheaply made...

in my opinion, yes. kasi medyo quality wise, di gaanong inspiring to play..unless siguro youre a 8 year old kid just starting out who dont care much...
pero oks lang kung yun lang talaga budget mo, go mo na...there are just so many options out there for the money. since youre here sa PM, why not browse the classifieds to check out better, souped up, pre owned guitars.. mas sulit..

good quality amp..if makuha mo yung entrylevel squire malaki ang chance na mapatunog mo ng maayos yun regardless of quality..kung makapaginvest ka sa isang maayos na amp..stay away from cheapo, small amps..basa basa nalang dito sa forums for good suggestions and threads..goodluck!

Depends bro! If you have a previous electric guitar, you need to either upgrade to a long-term guitar. Like the Fender standard strat so you wouldn't ask for more. Or if your budget doesn't allow you to get expensive guitars, get the standard squier strat! It sounds good and it's way alot better than entry-level. But if it's your first, get the package, it's worth every peso! You get an amp and a good guitar. The guitar in the package is not much entry-level. It's like a knotch higher. You would work harder with the amp and guitar and become better soon.

Well, in that case buy the standard! The affinity is perfect for first time players that would need time to learn and grow first. But since you are gonna play, you would need a knotch higher guitar.

Yes, better quality, but you could also upgrade too if you want, depends on your playing style. OR you could use it until you think it's old then resell it then buy a new strat, a long-term strat.

yeap. I have the exact same model that Cayle had. I still have it and love it to this day.
better construction and body thickness is closer to a traditional tele, medyo mas manipis ang tele affinity body.
and AFAIR, affinity teles have top loading bridges, unlike the standard's string through bridge.

If you're just starting out, pwedeng unti-unti muna. Simulan mo sa strings. Tapos pickups and electronics. Tapos yung tuners, bridge, and nut. Pero wag mong madaliin, mas mabuting maging familiar ka muna sa instrument bago ka mag-customize/upgrade.

I have a Squire Tele at gusto ko palitan yung PUPs nya. Bridge and Neck, ask lang kung ano ba maganda ipalit?? Never tried to replace it, at wala ako masyado alam na pickups na mura lang (around 2-3k budget) pero worth it naman sa sounds.
At kanino pwede ipa-install? gusto ko din kasi ipa-setup.hehe

Di ko na kasi nagagamit Tele ko..ahaha. 335 madalas kong gamit, :cry: kaya gusto ko iupgrade man lang yung tele, baka mainlove ulit ako sa 1st love ko..haha

Thanks! Got that some time ago, late 90's sa Yamaha Harrison Plaza, and I've held on to it ever since. Much of the lacquer, especially on th neck, has faded. I upgraded the pickups (DiMarzio SDS1 on the bridge and Fender Noiseless on the middle and neck), Fender Noiseless wiring kit, Fender TBX pot on the bridge PU. I also put jumbo frets in there. It's been my workhorse guitar ever since. I love it to bits. :)

Some are good, Some are bad. siguro inspect mo na lang yung pagkapulido ng gawa ng wood, say yung sa neck joint (kung may gaps ba), kung okay na yung setup out of the box. no rusts. frets. etc. sa ganung price range, di naman pwedeng umasa for something magical. siguro something useful na lang. but they are cheap. considering it includes an amp, strap, cable, picks. etc. lalo na kung sale. :)

Owner of a Squier CV 50s tele here! i suggest you get the strat, most of the players you mentioned are strat players, if not all. although syempre, nothing wrong with the tele, timplahan lang naman yan eh. factor parin yung amp at effects. ;)

Some are good, Some are bad. siguro inspect mo na lang yung pagkapulido ng gawa ng wood, say yung sa neck joint (kung may gaps ba), kung okay na yung setup out of the box. no rusts. frets. etc. sa ganung price range, di naman pwedeng umasa for something magical. siguro something useful na lang. but they are cheap. considering it includes an amp, strap, cable, picks. etc. lalo na kung sale. :)
ok... pero yeah, di naman ako nag eexpect ng sobrang magical. haha. pag nag sale ba how much do these usually go for? :-D

Owner of a Squier CV 50s tele here! i suggest you get the strat, most of the players you mentioned are strat players, if not all. although syempre, nothing wrong with the tele, timplahan lang naman yan eh. factor parin yung amp at effects. ;)
Thanks bro for the input. How's the CV50 tele? Haven't had the chance yet to test it but base on the videos maganda ang to Maybe I need to try both the strat and tele first. But more on tele love here... Hehe... :wave:

Bro, merong Squier guitars sa Guitar Pusher. Search mo lang either sa Facebook or sa bago nilang website. They sell the California series (strats and teles). I suggest you setup an appointment para ma-try mo din. It's your ears and fingers which can definitely tell if gusto mo or hindi. :)

medyo unusual, sperzel tuning pegs, single string tree, missing serial (maybe intentionally erased)... ok na din siguro for P5k to P6k...
Yun nga po ang hinahanap ko. Ang alam ko kasi sa mga authentic na Fender, may serial number sa likod ng headstock. Meron pa nga yatang nakalagay na Made in Japan/Korea/China sa likod ng neck. Hindi ko lang sigurado kung ganun din sa Squier.

more pics of the guitar could help. And if its original + sperzel tuners, thats great. A bnew affinity tele AFAIR is around 9.9k or 10.9k and a set of sperzels is worth around 3k. For 5 or 6k, it doesnt get any better than that.

I'm actually going for a Squier standard/deluxe strat for the 2-point trem, but according to research, 'yung spacing ng tremolo posts are quite different than a usual 2-point strat trem. With this, baka mahirapan ako maghanap ng parts for upgrade. What would you guys suggest? Or are there Squier models that have traditional specs/measurements?

Sa nabasa ko yung Bullet series ang hindi standard. Not sure what other models don't have standard dimensions.

Balak ko iupgrade kasi medyo lubog na yung nut and may mga uka na yung fret wires so dinala ko kina sir Ruel (arcee) sya for a refret job and bone nut replacement. The guitar has a plywood body so im wondering if worth it ba to for further upgrades (pickups, tuners, etc)? In short, kung kayo ba, gagastos ba kayo for a Plywood body strat? Thanks.

Kung plywood body Sir, advice ko lang be practical and conservative about upgrade expenses. Baka mas mahal pa yung value ng upgrade sa guitar itself.

It's a p90 in a tele size pickup. I like it! Malinaw tunog pero kapag ginalit mo nag-rerespond siya sa playing attack. Well compare yun sa dating pickup ko na ARTEC lang. Btw, I got it 2nd hand sir. I think rockstore ang distributor ng porter pickups dito. :-D

Out of the three the China Jaguar pickups sound poor compared to the other two. The Hondo copy is the best of the bunch. The pick ups on it sound the best and the necks got that big carve that I adore. Love the matching headstock.

how to clean a maple neck? im planning to use my old telecaster again (10yrs na sya with me) nag aalangan kasi ako na di daw pwede gumamit ng lemon oil on maples. i havent done anything yet kahit pampunas na may onting water di ko pa ginagawa pero napunasan ko na sya with a dry cloth
