oily masyado ang wd-40 tapos may amoy pa. go nilagang cymbals dude...masarap yun

eto ingredients:

bili ka ng baking soda sa grocery tapos pakulo ka ng tubig. opkors yung tubig mo dapat malulubog mo yung cymbal. tapos usually isang dakot na baking soda ang ihahalo ko dun sa tubig habang mainit. konting halo. tapos lipat mo yung hot water sa plangana. ilagay mo yung cymbal mo sa tubig for 5 minutes. di mo kailangan galawin, yaan mo lang sya magswimming. tapos alisin mo sa tubig at punusan mo ng dry cotton cloth. just dont expect it to be shiny like after applying metal polish.

i've first known about this watching the food network, italian chefs use baking soda/hot water combo to clean pots and pans. then i read about using it on cymbals from pinoydrums.

depende kung brilliant finish yung cymbals. pero kung traditional finish, no need to polish since hindi rin naman sya kikintab na parang salamin.

if you still want to use metal polish, look for non-abrasive ones. one good example is flitz metal polish. i use it on my cymbals but i order it abroad

teka, di ko alam kung ano yung brilliant at traditional finish eh~ pati pala, ang gusto ko kase bumalik yung orignal na kulay nito without those darkening green-like stains caused by sticks and dust..  mattanggal din yun pag nag laga ako ng cymbals???

di na matatanggal yung stains na yun. signs of corrosion at nagpenetrate na sila sa finish nung cymbal. pwedeng malessen ng cleaning pero di totally na maalis. the green stains are called patina.

how to distinguish brilliant from traditional? i guess the best explanation is to give examples : yung K zildjian traditional finish yun while yung A Customs brilliant. get mo po yung idea?

i polish them only during new year's day and then let them rot again till next year

xmpre, cleaning... meron thread dito about cleaning cymbals using diff. methods.. "nilagang cymbals" ika nga! tapos gamitan mo cymbal cleaner weder trad or brilliant finish yan.. aun.. wipe out moistures dahil magcause ng tarnish.. nu nga ulet tawag dun sa nagiging kulay green na dumi? hehe.. wag mong gamitan ng abrasive metal polish kundi sa katagalan, ninipis yan.. masisigra ung groove.. tska avoid metal contact between the hole of the cymbal and ung pinagsusuksukan niya sa cymbal stand (dont know the term.. sowee) to avoid keyholes..

hope it helps!

cheers

^^The green thing is called patina. It's supposed to make your cymbals sound warmer. I don't mind having it or not.

Ako, I never clean my cymbals.  La lang, tamad (hehe). If ever, tuyong basahan or slightly basang basahan ang ginagamit ko. No solvents except water, if ever.  I tried Groove juice, pero if you read closely, it's made for brass, not bronze.  I tried them on my A's dati, at naging dusky yung color at parang camouflage yung itsura. I've stopped using it on cymbals... it's great for hardware though.

Pag nasa cymbal bag, I make sure na walang metal-to-metal contact between 2 cymbals. Like now, I usually have 2 or 3 cymbals in one pocket ng bag... I'll have one cymbal (or yung in-between kapag 3 sila) wrapped in a t-shirt.  I don't do this with the hats though, kasi same size lang sila... they fit together snugly and won't slide or create that much friction compared to differenly-sized cymbals.

Plus, I don't put the bag down na nakatayo... always nakahiga. If I commute with my cymbals and I have to sit down (like sa jeep), I put the cymbals somewhere on my shoes where it wouldnt hurt (like yung sobrang space sa may toes).  Other than that, I just put it on my lap.

And... like legnacilyz said... no metal to metal contact sa stand.  Mortal sin of cymbal care yan.

Mahirap-hirap sila pag-ipunan. Pis tayo, mga men.

OT: In a way, mahirap talaga maging drummer in terms of equipment. :D
