bro..try turko rust conveter available at sm hardwares, lightly moisten the brown rust spots using cotton buds, after awhile the rust converts into whitish oxide and rub with wd40 or any oil.
hope this helps..works on my guitars

try Wipe Out. i have a premier drumset too and since the hardware is made of good quality stainless steel, kahit i-wipe out ko lang yung konting build up ng rust madaling matanggal.  babad mo lang sa wipe out yung rust for a minute, then lightly scratch out the rust.  i use the other end of a spoon or fork, wrapped in an old rag. matrabaho, but it gets the job done.

Kasi kanina, kinalas ko ung rim ng 12" tom tapos pagka-tanggal ko nung rim, sumama yung drumhead na nakadikit sa rim. Hindi ko matanggal yung drumhead. Ano bang gagawin kapag nangyari to?

That's what I notice with some entry-level drumkits...  It's either their drums' rims are oblong-ed or undersized.  So if one mounts a quality drumhead like Remo or Evans, it's always a snug fit.  Same goes for some entry-level drum shells...

Snare restoration tips?

I've seen a few of the threads by guys who have restored old drums and would like to get some pointers... An old beat up 3 x 13 Tama picollo snare came my way and I'd like to get in playing condition. Where to start?

Hello Mr. Admin!

Well, we can start by posting some photos of your Tama piccolo drum.  Let us know also about the condition of the drum, and if there are any broken/defective/tarnished parts.

I've read some articles in my old Modern Drummer magazines about drum restoration.  I'll try to look for that and review it...

hmmm though i havent seen its condition yet, I would say a good starting point is to take it apart, then clean each one. as in remove the lugs as well.

if it's made of steel truevalue or DiY or handyman is always there to supply chrome, steal cleaning aids. and an old toothbrush will come in handy with this one.

If it's made of wood, then polishing the surface would be ideal. but if it's got a few knicks and knacks, maybe you could take it to a wood shop and have it re-laquered. you would want to probably change the heads if its beaten down already and maybe the snare as well if its overly corroded.

If its made of steel or bronze or copper or alluminum and say its super corroded (for steel) or dirtied beyond cleaning or has got a few dents, take it to a car shop and have it painted to your desired color, and maybe while you're at the paint thing, how about finding an airbrush artist, and have him paint your design onto it. you can also paint the hardware like the hoops, lugs if you want.

oh and peeves24 does drum customisation, to be specific he makes drums at home so maybe getting in touch with him would be enlightening as well in this undertaking.

hope this helps. thanks. all the best in restoring it.  :)

coke will do wonders on that  :D

disassemble everything down to the lugs. get a basin and soak it in 6 liters of coke, wait and rinse

Wag Coke... kasi lalanggamin (hehe).

Pro-Mark Groove Juice works well with hardware. As in tanggal in a minute. Spray, let sit for a minute, then wipe with a rag.

I think Audiophile has some Groove Juice for a bit over 400 pesos.
