Guthrie Govan appreciation thread
« on: November 05, 2009, 07:17:36 PM »
When i heard guthrie in 2007, I was so impressed by his technical and melodic skill. He made me want to improve and inspired me to focus on making melodic solos. Right now i am still trying to get out of the scalar/technical rut but i am beginning to improve as i learned to think how guthrie would have done it over the progression.

Melodies - sweeeeet melodies.

Below is a promotion of blues jam tracks with guthrie soloing over the backing tracks.

I've been worshipping guthrie for two or three years now, and never did he disappoint. I can't wait for his follow-up album. Or what if he makes a collaboration with Alex Hutchings? or what if they recorded the Greg Howe-Guthrie Govan-Richie Kotzen masterclass they had last year, that would be insane!

I know he's all over youtube, but check out one of his newer videos: 10 blues licks

Insane!

He's one of a kind. An out of this world guitar player. He's one of my current favorites alongside Mattias Eklundh and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal.

1996 / 1997 ko pa naririnig mga licks nyan - sa Guitar Techniques.  I remember him as an acoustic guitar player, meron syang acoustic album collaboration with another guitar player nung late 90's.

i love how his playing has gotten more jazzy, sounds like he's been doing alot of bebop homework

Guthrie's insane, no doubt. Hands down to this wonderful player who's got great taste and imagination. Erotic Cakes is my favorite album. I love his technical ability and proficiency in various styles from his blues-rock/jazz and fusion shred style. He has varied picking patterns, has an interesting "vocabulary" of lines. His time is solid, very nice phrasing to my ears.

And he's a tele user too. Well.. Sometimes :-)
