I don't have a decent pic as of now with the V but here's mine in a recent gig we had when we volunteered to perform for the bilibid inmates. It was a great experience helping out with the talents we were blessed with.
The guitar is an Epi V. I really wasn't a V guy but when I saw this on sale over the forums waaay back, I HAD to get it coz it's one of those 60 something reissue models (i think) and it didn't have that korina 58 look which I'm not too fond of. It's set up sweetly by jun castro and is loaded with seymour duncans jazz on the neck and alnicos on the bridge
I paired it with a black levy's leather strap with a rose on it. I figured the V can only pull off the rose look. it's too rocknrolly glam kse hehehe

mga bros: what the diff betweem a Floyd rose and a tunomatic na bridge, i know how it looks but the perfomance, the advantages and disa, help naman oh.
floyds: - more stable tuning - tremolo use - harder to change strings and tune - when you break 1 string, other strings will ,most likely, go out of tune.
tune-o-matics: - easier to change strings and tune - may get out of tune once in a while with not-so-good tuning keys - no tremolo use
pede ba mag post ng used-to-have V?

sure bro! why not!? eto ung thread na mga meron, mga nagkaron, mga magkakaroon palang at mga admirers ng FLYING-V. like me, i ordered a Peavey Vortex sa Audiophile, it turned out when it arrived, mas nagustuhan ko ung rotor, ayan ung avatar ko.. kaya nandun pa ung Vortex, bro, ang ganada!! mga 19T lang, may discount pa! eto sample pic:
i bought it second hand, ganyan na hitsura niya nung nakuha ko. really miss her, if i had enough funds noon, di ko sana binenta and pinaganda ko na lang. last thing i heard about her was floyded na sya and kulay white.
i tried searching ebay for the same guitar and saw an exact one, pati ung original paint.

that vortex looks like a metal shredding machine. simple specs, lots of attitude.
tama ka jan kapatid! kaya nga natipuhan ko eh. we usually play southern rock, blues, a little reggae-ska, some classic rock and 90's rock. just imagine me, he vocalist, wearing a guitar like that! what a contrast! hehehe, hindi metal sounds namin pero metal guitar dala ko! hehehehe.. maybe that's my next GAS or project! hehehehe.. whatchutink?

Pinalagay ko lang ung pickguard. Wala dati yan eh.

I bought it cheap ($199) for the novelty of but I immediately realized that the thing really plays well after I adjusted the action. The sound is actually at par with my Les Paul Standard using the same amp/effects setup. I was thinking of replacing the pups when i bought it besides the fact that i never tested it. But now i'll defenitely keep it the way it is. I'll try to post some pics soon. I'm still not sure if it's considered as a flying v.

No worries man, I used to have a band that was lucky enough to play time to time there also back in 2003-2004. Good & fun times. It's all about the music naman.
Back on topic, bro how much did you get your flying V for? Did you upgrade pickups? I've always wanted a white vintage looking one.. :-)
yeah those are actually old photos haha
I got mine used but in great condition. had it set up by Jun Castro. The Pups are both seymour duncans. Alnico on the bridge and jazz on the neck. Sounds great to my ears. I really wasn't into V's until I saw this one and HAD to get it. Explorer talaga gusto ko but this V got me hooked. I'm never letting go of this kahit hindi Gibson to hehe

Haha baliktad naman tayo dude! It's funny coz I have a Explorer but I've always wanted a V. Never dreamed of having a Gibson anyway, so I've always had my eye on those Epiphone Flying-V's. Nice axe man. It's nice to know the stock pickups rock. Hopefully one day I'll find the Flying-V meant for me. :-)
HAHAHA baliktad nga!!! I'm still on the hunt for an explorer... or better yet still saving up haha clarify ko lang bro, hindi na stock yung pups kaya di ko masabi ano sound nung stock.

Washburn PT60. Mahogany body and set neck, with ebony fretboard. SD JB bridge, DiMarzio Air Zone neck. Grover tuners. Small frets.
Nalaman ko lang na may coil-tap pala ito two years ago nung nakita ko yung mga review sa Harmony Central.

The last time I saw this kind of Washburn V was from a Kid Rock video, ganyan ang gamit nung guitarist ni Kid Rock. A nice variation of an RR-V shape.

a cool guitar. :-)

hello. I recently bought my dream guitar since 2007. Its a discontinued Ibanez model, The "V-Blade" VBT-700. I thought I'd never get my hands on this guitar since rare na sya at 6pcs lang ang dumating sa Audiophile. good thing I was able to find one in a very good condition. It feels good because I know I bought it with every cent that I earned. (drama) haha. Wallpaper ko lang dati tpos now I actually own one in the same finish as well.

cheers to our proud V owners. :)

hi guys! question lang...i dunno if ako lang nakakahalata nito or maybe its just my greco V...comparing yung tunog nya sa les paul type ng guitars, i find the V (the gibson 67 reissue type) more bass-ier and darker in tone. di kaya dahil ito sa malaking plastic pickguard? the pickups im using? caps? or talagang ganito lang ang tunog ng flying V...
i also checked out fretted americana's demo of a gibson flying V, i noticed rin na mas darker ung tunog nya compared to his demos of les paul guitars.

Just a wild guess. LPs have mahogany bodies with maple tops to compensate the darkness of the sound. Most Vs have an all-mahogany soild body which is really big. That might be one of the reasons kung bakit darker sounding siya kesa sa mga usual LPs..
Factor din ang amp, pick, and pickups. Pero taking most things constant or flat EQ, factor talaga yung all-mahogany body ng V.

Ey, Ian. Anong balita? :-)

Actually, for the budget conscious, you can contact Mang Frank to do the hardcase. He is the one whom Yupangco outsources the hardcase fabrication...
I got mine last week... it cost me 4500PhP... When I inquired at yupangco they offered it to me at 6K...
thanks for the info....dun rin pala kay mang frank nagpapagawa yung mga yan and they offered me 7k...anyway madali naman kausapin si mang frank...btw like those v's

I had been a member of the Flying-V squad for a while, but I wanted to share my new toy, added to my family:
I went to a guitar store called GUITAR CENTER (with over 800 guitars on display) in Nashville. The attendants, who were very helpful and accommodating, let me try the following axes:
The Gibson USA LP IMHO has the best sound, way better than the LTD Eclipse (but haven't been able to compare it with an ESP Eclipse). But I am a heavily Megadeth-inspired guitar player hence I got the Dean instead.
So far so good. :aok:
This is his brother which I left back home sa Pinas (https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/305832_1952974633653_1521277457_31540933_616879223_n.jpg)
Just wanted to add: (https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/422196_2474125022087_1521277457_31778191_2036119948_n.jpg)

nice.. a thread dedicated for V shaped guitars...
Hi guys :) newbie here.. just wanted to share my custom Rhoads V made by mang Max Rufo.... Its an Ibanez (neck) Jackson and ESP hybrid.. Loaded with Max Rufo pickup... Straight forward metal guitar :-D
I'd like to share my experience with the attendants of Guitar Center (http://stores.guitarcenter.com/Nashville) in Nashville. First I went there, one attendant was very accommodating, showing me a lot of stuffs and I said "no thank you I am just looking around". Despite of telling him that, he kept on showing more stuffs to me and even handed me the LTD EC-1000 should I wanted to test it. I am amazed on how good their customer service is. Once I started testing the EC-1000 on an amplifier of my choice (they let me chose what amp I wanted to use for testing), I didn't noticed that he placed a couple more guitars by my side should I wanted to test more axes. Those guitars were more than a thousand dollars apiece.
After 30 minutes of playing like I was in heaven, I handed them over the guitars and said thank you, I might be back. The attendant gave me his calling card. I mean, what the... None of them discriminated a customer doing just window shopping.
Without promising them anything, I returned a couple of weeks later and purchased the Dean VMNT. I told them that I'll be flying off to Manila soon and then showed me a bunch of more guitar cases ideal for flying, explained to me the science of flying with a guitar, gave me tips on how to secure it, and a few bubble wraps. Upon checking out from their cashier, I asked the attendant if I could have a guitar pick for free and he automatically handed me over a handful of it.
Wala na akong masabi. As in WOW for customer service!
How I wish guitar shops have attendants like these in our country. Super amazing!
I can't forget my experience at LYRIC MOA, when I asked one of the attendants how much was the Edwards Alexi Scythe, and the reply was instantly given back to me without hesitation "MAHAL YAN SIR".

Hi.
Got a 90s epiphone korean v. The stock pups sound anemic for drop C, medyo muddy and loose siya. I use a set of not even slinkies, cant remember specific gauges.
What pickups can you recommend for tight riffing? Dunno kasi the wood type of this geetar, seems a bit too light nga eh.
Thanks sir!

2. Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine LiveWire (http://www.seymourduncan.com/images/products/electric/humbuckers/LW-MUST.jpg) http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/humbucker/high-output/lwmust_livewire/
Perfect for down-tuned high gained setup. LiveWire Mustaines may be a bit less hot than the EMG's but had a much thicker tone. The lows and mids of the Mustaines are greater than the EMG 81, which I think is perfect for C tuning. It will sound better too if you use the strings with gauges 13-17-26-36-46-56.
Just my two cents.

I can't forget my experience at LYRIC MOA, when I asked one of the attendants how much was the Edwards Alexi Scythe, and the reply was instantly given back to me without hesitation "MAHAL YAN SIR".
nakakainis yun bantay ah.
i think our local music stores SHOULD train their frontliners on PROPER CUSTOMER handling. i know this is a little bit OT na. pero the best customer service i had was in audiophile pioneer, thanks to sir lito. kahit araw araw ako nagwiwindow shopping dun date, he was very accomodating, for a time suki na ko sa kanya on guitar setups and repairs and accesories.

Up for sir Lito! He was the one who installed the Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine LiveWire on my Jackson King V JS32T (the lowest end King V). After what he did, my King V sounded bad a**!

Mustaine! That's badass!
Was actually thinkin of passive pups, either jb or distortion for the bridge. and just disconnect the tone pot. pero i'm kinda curious sa blackouts. i do have emg81/85 on a prs and emg81/81 on an ibby, both mahogany. And i do love that metal tone i get from active pups. diba si mustaine naka jb din dati? I worry kasi where to shoehorn the battery.
Any ideas as to the kind of wood ng epi ko? Its a bit light and soft. Di kaya plywood? Hehe. I read sa mga forums na may mga plywood epi na galing korea during the 90s, pero bihira info and mostly sketchy info. Maybe i should try scrapin off the paint to find out.

Seymour Duncan Mustaine LiveWire is practically a set of SH-4 JB and SH-2n Jazz pickups but are "ACTIVE". So imagine the punch it can give you. Mr. Lito of Audiophile Pioneer was able to properly make room for the battery when he installed the LiveWire to my King V JS32T. I think kaya naman yan with an Epi V.
As for your other question, that I can not answer. Di ako maalam with Epiphones but I'll help you by me trying to google it in the next few days. Can you post a picture of your Epi V? Thanks!

thanks bro! dami kasing info na magkakaiba. nothin definitive on a 90s epi V. think the actives will be the best for tightness. plus the body wood won't be the weakest link in the tone, if it does prove to be a laminate body. otherwise i'm still on the fence with the passives, either a hot paf, distortion, jb or even a rail bucker of some sort like a L500xl, dimebucker or x2n! plano ko dito to take away the tone pot and neck pup from the circuit, and just have volume pot and an uberhot bridge pup!
pero that hot jb tone with the mustaine set sounds like what i'd like to get. megadeth rules! \m/

Hey guys, anyone here use a V with the output jack on the front face of the guitar? usually near the bottom wing tip. I was wondering- parang awkward ang design- the cable would be very exposed to movement when playing live. and when hooked through the strap, makes the guitar look weird (nag-shape na triangle)
sorry pag medyo vague (hope i make sense) Anyways, any thoughts on these?
Im new to flying v's so maybe im missing something..

i have only 7 with me now..:) you have nicer Vs..:) how's the dean compared to the jackson?
Wow 7!!! Awesome...
The Dean is a no contest over the Jackson, I mean particularly these two. The Jackson is the entry-level JS32T MII Bolt-On Construction Maple Neck Rosewood Fretboard axe, while that Dean is the VMNT MIK Set-Neck All Mahogany Ebony Fretboard, a version used by Mustaine himself so many times live (most notably on their Blood on the Water Live DVD). The Jackson eventually became just my back-up guitar after I got the VMNT. However both are using Seymour Duncan Dave Mustaine LiveWire pickups.
The VMNT though may be comparable to a Jackson KV2. But by then, the KV2 will win unanimously.

The USA VMNT is only for prestige, it doesn't really have significant advantage over the MIKs and MIJs, IMHO.
Willie G. (Mustaine's Guitar Tech) once said in an interview that the manufacturers of VMNTs are so consistent, you can never tell one from the other easily. Even Mustaine prefers the MIKs more (you will rarely see him using the USAs live, but one notable event was his Phantom Lord, Jump in the Fire, Metal Militia, Motorbreath, and Seek & Destroy performance with Metallica on their 30th anniversary).
I'm done na siguro with my GAS for Vs, so I'm eying for an LTD EC-1000 (Black), or a Snakebyte in the future.

I'm eyeing on a '68 Gibby Flying V. Hopefully before this year ends makakuha ako

Just read from somewhere (not in Philmusic) that na-uto daw ako ng PULP for paying that much just to have a few seconds photo op and autograph with Megadeth. The statement came from a non-guitar player if I am not mistaken. A guitar signed by Megadeth themselves that comes with a video and photo to prove its authenticity, is worth more than what I have paid for PULP. Anlakas manlait ng taong yun but oh well, I'll just shrug them off my shoulders, peace be with him.

to answer your question, it worked well onstage, only that i lacked a footswitch to control the amp sim. :-D
luckily, that night, we had to play full on hard rock, and i didn't have to switch channels. ^-^
it kinda went well with the V, i gotta say. memorable gig, that night.

and here's a shot of my beloved Elisse in my bedroom...
added the black pickup ring on the bridge, and replaced the gold tophats with gold speed knobs (they have since been re-replaced again by, you guessed it, tophats. :-D) the puprings gave it a better look, and overall feel, at least for me.
added two more strap buttons on the upper wing to let me balance the guitar a bit better. i felt that the further away from the center the button is, the heavier the head becomes.
never mind that large Coca-Cola bottle, and the ash tray. :-D

V is best played on a chair na walang parang railings ng braso sa gilid, preferably a round chair, tapos medyo mababa, kasi kapag sobrang taas ng chair you'll end up needing to raise your left foot to balance the V guitar.

Hello. Here is my V-type axe. Its an Ibanez V-Blade VBT-700 which was released sometime in 2007. Im not really into elaborate guitars but Ive always felt Ibanez had a certain "gift" in designing good-looking, modern, radical but not so-exaggerated guitars at a fairly good price. I like the way it was designed particularly its signature 'tails'. It sports a sturdy Gibraltar bridge and a DiMarzio D'Activator set. (PUs had been replaced recently.)

Thanks Bro I appreciate it. Actually the D'Activator set are its stock pickups. I recently acquired a Liquifire/Crunchlab set and sold the stock ones. And yes, medyo rare na tlga sya and according to my Audiophile friends 6 lang ang naipasok nila dito sa pinas that time. 3 black and 3 white. So I guess mine is one of them. haha. :))

been on the lookout for that guitar.......where's the like button?
I believe LTD has them now, but without the shmexy curves. :-) Otherwise, if you do stumble on a decently priced GC-60V, snag it right away! Hahaha. My friend got his V from PCPark japan and it was in immaculate condition. When I got to try his V, I instantly fell in love though I'm not really a V guy. I got mine 2nd hand from a guy somewhere in the north, had some wear and needed some maintenance but still good nonetheless.

Yeah. Been checking the classifieds for over a year. The GC-60V, if I'm not mistaken is a signature guitar of Chisato (Penicillin).

I believe mine is a 24-3/4". Anlambot ng strings due to less tension. problem is since all my guitars have been 25 1/2" nasanay ako sa wide stretch, lumalampas mga daliri sa higher frets

btw, hindi ba kayo nanibago when you play a v vs say a superstrat?
my v tends to fall headstock first pag binitawan ko yung neck, unlike my other guitars na "balanced". i read na yung sg shares the same kind of issue. may ginagawa ba kayong special / power stance to keep the v in place while playing.
trying out the schenker style position kaso nahihirapan ako to operate my pedals pag ganon

Neck dive? Mine doesn't do that.. Pero I believe more than the actual neck and headstock weight, a lot has to do with the balance of the neck and body relative to the placement of the strap buttons.

I've had two V's in the past and never experienced the dip. The SG, yes.
Solution: Use a leather strap.

ito yung i-sinusuggest ng tropa ko. i'm currently in the market for one, medyo me kamahalan haha still looking though.
salamat sa mga input fellow V owners

Something like this.. :)

Hamer and Fernandes are very good sir if they're within your budget. AFAIK the RJs are in the same price range as your budget, but if you can get the Hamer or the Fernandes for the same price, wag na sa RJ (hit and miss ang fretwork).

Stupid question but how do you stabilize this thing during recording sessions where you have to sit for long periods of time? I tried one at a session and gave up after 5 mins.

It's not really a stupid question though.
Had to figure out a way to do it, especially without a guitar strap affixed.
I let the guitar scissor on the upper thigh, one leg of the V sitting on the top of the leg.

Yeah! Its actually my fave guitar for playin while sittin down cause of the low position. Well I do prefer low slung geetars when I used to gig.
If youre used to playin with your "normal body shape" geetar on your left leg, then the slightly lower position with the V over your right leg is not too much of an adjustment. This is assumin youre not a lefty.
let me post a video titser marco & ralph petrucci! hahaha!

this.
michael schenker does this while standing, it looks a little funny but it works.
so after a long while, I figured that my v dips because of the placement of the strap button at the very end of the upper horn. seems like an easy solution is to move the button somewhere closer to the apex of the v...but no, I'd gotten used to the issue and I prefer mine the way it is now.
