Is it okay to put stickers on cymbals?
« on: September 10, 2007, 08:44:03 AM »
hi guys!

is it ok to put stickers on cymbals? umm, sa ilalim naman kung sakali. may nakita kasi ako one time na drummer na may sticker sya (decal) under his 16" crash. ganda lang tignan pag-swing nung crash after he hits it kasi yung ginamit nyang decal yung metallic silver.

tnx sa magrereply.peace!

well, actually, some session drummers i know do put masking tape on their cymbals to shorten the decay and increase stick definition. as long as you don't mind those things happening on your crash cymbals, i guess it's okay to put stickers on them. just take extra care to not mess too much with the balance of your cymbals. doing so might shorten their useful lives.

tnx!. naisip ko lang din to since once you bought a brand new cymbal, you will see bar codes or serial numbers attached underneath the cymbal.

that's okay, if you want the muffling to be as permanent...

Personally, I would only do it if I need to muffle some overtones from a cymbal.  Pero kung para lang sa porma, I won't put stickers or decals.  I like my cymbals' natural appearance to speak for itself; clean and classy.

There are some commercially-made cymbal "mutes" available on the market.

mejo OT question:
di po ba may nabibiling logos na nilalagay sa cymbals like logo nung sabian? parang for restoration purposes sya. san po gawa yun? sticker ba yun?

As far as I know, the logos and prints on cymbals are applied on cymbals by silkscreen process during its manufacturing stage.

The after-market logos for cymbals with worn-out or faded-out logos, I think those are decals.  Correct me if I'm wrong.

I saw the Sabian Logo Renewal Kit for the first time yesterday. There were three sabian logo stencils of different sizes and a (gasp!) Felt-tip Marker to fill the stencils with! :-o

Oh... So those are just simple stencils, and we just have to fill it out with simple ink?

How much does it cost?

stencils? hmm, so meaning, we can actually do it ourselves or pagawa sa mga gumagawa ng car decals? bigay ka lang ng corel file (corel kasi gamit nung nasa megamall sa basement malapit sa bio research). kung ink din lang madali lang cguro yun. if i were not mistaken, i think the logo renewal kit is around 3k. expensive for a stencil (kung stencil nga sya).  :-o

I strongly advise you bro na wag mo gawin yan hehe. May kaibigan ako, parang ewan lang ginawang crash ung hats nya (top and bottom), sobrang olats. Haha. I'm planning to buy 8" SH splash someday. :-D

Dude.. mukhang hindi ata SAME yung STAGG sa mga A Custom, AAX, etc.,

"maybe" near to same composition ang cast bronze pero there is MORE to it men...

There is also the issue na sound consistency, lathing, hammering, etc...  (your post is misleading)...

ah..bro ang sinasabi ko pareho ang A customs and Stagg SH na cast bronze or B20 na compositon, pero tama ka may ibang factors pa rin like lathing, hammering etc. Wala naman ako sinabi na magkalapit sila ng tunog hehe :-D In my experience, warm and trashy ang SH crashes while A customs have a glassy and bright sound on it. I still recommend unnailed na magStagg SH na lang kesa ipa-cut ang top hats ng planet z para gawing splash, kasi SH splashes, composed of B20, have a more decent sound than brass (my preference) :-D peace

Tama nga naman.

B8 vs B20 is debatable (Paistes come to mind) but brass vs B20?
