Title: Anong Secret Sa Mabilis na Improvement .

I play guitar almost 8 months . And Wala pa ring improvement !!!! Nakakaasar . naaabutan na ko ng mga kasabayan ko . araw araw naman ako nagpapractice . Any tips from the experts ?? :|

Hire a good teacher. It's the best investment. Lots of them available in the music school area of this forum.
If i understand you correctly you've only been playing for 8 months? There's no rushing it. At this point you should be focusing on creating a solid foundation for your playing.
Nothing beats a true blue mentor. Not only will you learn, it's also inspiring and is probably among the best "shortcuts" there is to maturity.
Keep in mind that you're just starting out on the path. There's a long, exciting journey ahead.

also, don't be afraid of tackling hard things. don't have the consideration 'i will never even attempt to play that stuff' or 'i can never do taht' or something along those lines. if you do, then you just have declared that you aren't an achiever and won't get along anywhere.
and also play what you want and have goals. have fun practicing.
realize there aren't any short cuts to getting goals. there are efficient methods however e.g. using the metronome, etc which you can learn from instructionals and teachers but you really have to put in time and practice get where you want to go. it's actually fun.
also music and guitar playing aren't competitions - they are art. so don't worry if x player is better than you at the moment. be inspired instead and learn from them.
most problems in guitar can be solved by slowing things down to a comfort level and working from there.
i think phoenix_rising of fuseboxx (Mico Ong) is giving out lessons. pm me him or text him at 0920-9220382. he'll steer you to good directions of guitar playing. hindi madamot yan sa knowledge.

+1 on the bold text. This mentality hindered my playing for a long time. Not that I'm that much better today, but at least I have a healthier mindset.
Don't rush things regarding technique. You don't want to build bad habits from the very start.. because when they stick to you, they get really hard to fix.

and i totally agree, it's all about music and the music in you that you visualize to make.

start slowly then increase speed for the songs start with simple songs like Knockin on Heavens Door, Halaga, Picha Pie, Kaleidascope World and such then increase the speed a bit then start mastering shredding then last start to sweep it takes patience to practice these things

yea i know music is not a competition . but in our school , it is . theres so many good guitar player in here . they really boast about their skills . at lahat ng begginner na naggigitara na hindi nila kakilala inaangasan nila . . . kaya gusto ko gumaling for this upcoming Battle . hahah =D

I don't think there's any shortcut to effective improvement, even the most talented musicians paid their dues before they get to where they are today. Patience is a virtue.
Often, yung mga nag mamabilis, sila yung mga sloppy player and bad habits that are developed through the years are really hard to remove because they think that they're doing it right. As soon as one get their ego out of the way, the sooner they'll be a better player.
+999 on getting a good teacher, video lessons won't point out mistakes in your playing, only a teacher can do that!

bro currently dinodownload ko ung guitar pro 6 full (core) . pag natapos na yun . wala ng mga arguments pa ? i mean pwede ko na kagad syang magamit ?
ang kagandahan kasi sa blues, hindi mo kailangan ng mabilis na mga daliri at malupit na fx, kahit clean tune ok na:-D,

mahirap kasi pag self study lang, walang mag ko-corect kung may pagkakamali kang nagawa. basta iniisip lang natin tama ang ginagawa natin kahit mali :-D self study rin kasi ako kaya inabot ako ng a-year bago ako matuto mag "lead".
pahabol... magbasa ka ng mga scales kung hindi mo alam gamitin eto, kahit paturo ka, malaki ang maitutulong neto, promise!! :-D
basta tiyaga lang at praktis.

Naglelead na naman ako ngayon ee . kaso puro simpleng simple lang . and may isa pa kong problemang kinaasaran ko . Pag nagpapractice ako ok naman pero pag magiistudio na lagi akong pumapalpak . grrr . Bro advice lang, wag mo sila pansinin instead mainspire ka kapag nilalait ka nila gawin mong positive mga panlalait nila, wag ka lang nilang sasaktan or sisirain yung gamit mo.. Di talaga mawawala mga ganyan. Naranasan ko din dati yan nung highschool pa ko, pero ginamit ko lahat yun para magexcel ng magexcel.. Kaya ngayon pag nakikita ko sila nag gigitara hanggang ngayon mga panginuman na kanta parin kaya nilang tugtugin... :-D

Ako once lang nagka-teacher.. yung nag turo sakin ng major and minor chords sa open position. The rest sa Youtube at Google ko nalang natutunan. I agree na getting a teacher would really be beneficial and you should go ahead and hire one as much as possible.
If getting one is not as accessible to you though.. never ever think that you cant make it by yourself.. As long as you know how to search for what you need. The internet is your friend.

practice lang ng practice. kung passion mo talaga yan bro, gagaling ka. ikaw mismo ang maghahanap ng mga pwede mong matutunan. wag mong gawin ang pagigitara para ipakita sa kanilang mas magaling ka. umpisahan mo sa sarili mo bro. patunayan mo sa sarili mo. :)

here's something you might want to consider:
learn the chords. di lang major minor M7, m7. araling mo pati mga augmented, diminished, add9 etc.
some guitarist learn the basics then jump on to soloing without understanding kung bakit ganun ang build ng chords. eventulally lumalabs intoboys :-D puro intro lang ang alam.
if you know these chords and learn how and when to use them, IMHO napakalaking improvement. pag alam mo na tunog ng bawat chord, mas makakatulong sa pag cifra ng mga kanta. Eventually you'll feel more comforatble playing songs on the fly.
Admittedly , isa ako sa mga introboys. Had I started out learning Chords / Chord theory, eh di sana mas improved ako ngayon. :oops:

kunwari may technique ka na gusto makuha..study them one at a time..play it slow..let your fingers memorize the notes.. pag nagpraktis ka dapat wala istorbo..like imagining things..watching t.v. or looking at the window waiting for the chick to pass by.. pag nagpraktis ka seryosohan dapat.. be patient..don't rush things ok?

ganitong ganito ako, even today hindi ko alam ang mga "augmented, denimished, add9 etc....," dumidepende kasi ako sa mga guitar tab. puro major chords lang alam ko, at pag hindi ko alam ung chord, lagi akong may dalang "kodigo", chord book :-D

what's the real music ?? takang takang na ko dun . kasi yung mga kaibigan ko sinasabi wag na daw ako maggitara di ko naman daw alam yung real music . ee ang mga pinapakinggan ko lang naman mga post-hardcore , metalcore , alternative metal , heavy metal and minsan j-rock . di po ba yun maicoconsider na real music ??

he's probably referring to music that's been recorded with real instruments... but yeah... i agree with chino... it is subjective...
back to topic...
everyone already covered the needed basics... practice is the key... learn the chords... practice slowly... understand how they're made and why they're made like that... practice slowly... do the same with scales... practice slowly... use the songs you already know to understand why the musicians from those songs chose those notes... practice slowly... then study new songs... practice slowly... do the same thing again... practice slowly... :-D

when you practice slowly, you produce the desired notes more correctly... you pick more efficiently... the fingers of your fretting hand can correctly move more economically and correctly around the fretboard... speed is a byproduct or the result of practicing slowly...
make sure that when you play the chords, all of the notes are clearly produced... do the same thing when practicing riffs, licks, scales, etc... :-D

if you can not walk..it's impossible to run..-theodore ziras(top 12 fastest guitarist) don't rush things my boy..everytime na nagprapraktis ka may improvement ka na dun basta tama prinapraktis mo..hinay hinay lang.. baka sa kamamadali mo mas lalo ka pang di matuto..take everything smooth and slow..tiyak pag sa speed na ang iimprove mo..baka madalian ka na lang.. :wink:

Practicing slow will fix everything, tone from the fingers, use of space, developing technique, actually hearing what you're playing clearly, patience, precision, groove, efficiency etc. Kung makikita mo ang mga beginner parang tense na tense ang playing nila, parang hinahabol, so kapag walang patience, walang matututunan. Kaya mali yung mentality na pag mabilis magaling na, naliligaw ang mga beginner sa mentality na yun eh. Most of the players na nagmamadali are sloppy players.
Space is as important as good notes, and notes that aren't placed in a right groove are useless.

Simple lang ser kung bakit kailangan mabagal muna: muscle memory.
Sa ngayon wala pang memory ang mga muscle mo sa kamay kung paano kikilos kapag tumutugtog ng mabilis, kaya ka nahihirapan.
Habang ginagawa mo ng mabagal yung mga exercises unti-unting nauunawaan ng kamay mo kung paano ang gagawin niya kapag mas mabilis na.

I'd say go for the basics first rather than jumping to the technical stuff. Chords are important as well as scales. Try practicing the circle of fourths from simple major / minor chords followed by major7th to minor 7th. then pag sanay na go to dominant chords from dominant7 to 13th chords etc. It also helps to practice the major scale when your just beginning. kahit isang buong linggo ka paulit ulit mag major scale with alternate picking, para masanay ung coordination ng left hand to your right hand. just don't rush it. take ur time. and most importantly have fun.

laging nag ppc.. itabi mu sa pc
laging tulog, itabi mo sa kama mo
laging nanunuod ng tv itabi mu sa sofa nyo..
basta yung laging sya yung mapapansin mo... mas mag iimprove ka kung laging may hawal lang guitara

+1 ako dito.. I'm a bassist pero mostly normal bassist lang ako.. at matagal ako hindi nagbanda before.. I think mga 2 or 3 years the I saw this girl on youtube 1 year and 2 months ago.
Then na-inspired ako na mag-guitar, meaning wala talaga akong alam sa pag-lead, yung rythm ko it really sucks, and nagsimula ako bumili ng guitar ko ng Nov or Dec 2008.
Tapos after ng mga praktis ko after mga 2 months siguro sinubukan ko yung same song na tinugtog nya.

At ito na po yung last gig namin nitong july lang..
So, meaning kailangan mo lang tiyaga praktis, wag maging sarado ang isip mo na hindi ko kaya ito, Aaminin ko hindi pa rin ako ganun kagaling meron pa akong mga gusto pa matutunan.
I will try to get a teacher nga eh kasi yung left and right hand ko hindi ko talaga ma syncronize.. meron ba kayo pede i-advice?

praktis lang ng praktis..8 months ka pa lang nag gigitara parang sumusuko ka na.. hindi nakukha sa madalian yan tol. Buti nga ngayon andaming resources para matuto..internet youtube isusubo na lang sa atin ung dapat gawin. panahon ko songhits lang..and siprahan sa casette..rewind fast forward.. nakakatawa pero tutoo yung kanta ng sandwich na betamax hehe. praktis lang tol..tyagaan yan.

Naglelead na naman ako ngayon ee . kaso puro simpleng simple lang . and may isa pa kong problemang kinaasaran ko . Pag nagpapractice ako ok naman pero pag magiistudio na lagi akong pumapalpak . grrr . walang kinalaman ang guitara... naka-ibanez ako na floyd before pero bakit may nakikita akong improvement.. and I found out na mas mahirap ang naka-floyd kesa fixed bridge. (isang improvement ito) and the reason why I change into different guitar dahil hindi ako nakukuntento sa tunog (hindi ba isang improvement din ito?) at limited ang nagagawa ko.
it's a matter of PRACTICE.. that's all.. LOCKED! :lol:

fast improvement? depends on you. depends how much you're going to sacrifice. there are lots of info out there for correct practice, its the discipline of maintaining focus when doing it that's hard.
at your stage if i were in your shoes, id start out practicing good rhythm and good timing. find out songs with good, challenging rhythm and good progression that will keep you excited and keep you going. id learn to hear chords. i regret not doing that when i started. good rhythm opens up a lot of doors.

Take it slow bro, I'll share my experience. I'm not a fast lead guitarist but I understand chord patterns/scales. Sa akin nagimprove ako ng mabilis (slight improvement) nun sinabihan ako ng classmate ko na nangongopya ako ng chords niya kahit hindi naman talaga. Kakasimula ko pa lang mahilig sa gitara that time and almost 2months pa lang ako nagaaral. It was really a challenge for me kasi madami magagaling sa amin at gusto ko pakita dun sa nagsabi sa akin na kaya ko lagpasan kung anu man ang level niya. Bread pa ang uso sa amin dati, kaya un ang naisipan kong kapain (buong songs sa album). I don't remember pero mga isang buwan halos lahat dun sa album eh nakapa ko na. Gabi na halos lagi natutulog, laging nakikinig sa tape ng paulit ulit para makuha exact notes. Un classmate ko na nagsabi sa akin eh nagulat bakit daw natutugtog ko na halos lahat un nasa album, san daw ako nakakuha ng tablature. :? I was smiling nun sinabi niya un. Siya naman nagsabi sa akin na paturo ng mga broken chords nun. :-D After that time mga e-heads na kinapa ko, another big challenge.
For me, start with the basics. Enjoy what you're doing. Ear Practice. Don't pressure yourself na maging magaling or magimprove agad dahil lalo ka mahihirapan kasi dun lagi focus mo sa pagiging magagling. Maganda din kung may inspirasyon ka at challenge yourself na din.

METRONOME !!!! Lots of finger warm-ups across the fretboard.
March 2010 akong nagsimula mag-aral ng guitar seriously. But i am quite happy with my progress. I'm currrently at 105 BPM this week on the metronome on plain fingering each note (any 1,2,3,4 combination), way above that BPM if hammer-ons & pull-offs included.
If my progress is an increase of 2 BPM every week, normal ba ito or mabagal na improvement on speed?
So far okay na ang minor pentatonics at dito ko naintindihan kung paano binubuo ang solo. Opps kasali na rin pala yong blues notes.
Pinag-aaralan ko ngayon Major & minor scales across the fretboard. All i need is TIME for the speed to build up gradually. Hinay hinay lang.
I'm giving myself upto end October to have a decent speed & dapat makabisado ko na ang Major & minor scales across the fretboard. Sumasabit pa sa arpeggio kahit mabagal lang.
I hope by the end of the year i can complete the CANON ROCK. Is that a realistic target? or a tall order. Mahirap tingin ko ang arpeggio sa piyesa na ito sobrang bilis. Pero kailangan kakayanin ko ito.

hmm..i read somewhere here..that you should train your ear..which i agree with..although for me, i don't think that you should really concentrate so much on that part..i mean don't focus so much on knowing how every note/chord/string sound...I THINK THOSE THINGS WILL COME NATURALLY as you spend years and years playing..yun lang naman, para sakin.. :-D :-D

Don't ever try to skip the basics.. yung tipong entry level ka pa lang tapos gusto mo nang tumirada ng mga Yngwie Malmsteen na piyesa.. Yung basics kasi ay yung foundation mo as you learn advance lessons.. lahat yan magagamit mo balang araw..
And also, don't be worried kung naunahan ka na nung mga kasabayan mo.. Slow but sure.. hehehehe..

YOU are your won pace bro, not them. Me mga talented talaga na mabilis matuto, meron ding it takes time. Pero I believe guitar playing is a skill you can learn and develop as you put your heart and mind into it. And just as they said, learn the basics, from it you can do your improv, and just like any skills, it takes time, money and effort. And just as william said, patience is a virtue. And its not about the style, but the mastery of it(according to jet li :-D ). oh well, now enough reading and go practice!

patience is the number 1 factor. try to avoid the youtube as your main reference. record a song you wanna learn and let your ears work. the sound will feed your brain with lots of possibilities. expirementation will stir your imagination.
