A note on the Alexan kits:

as one of the members found out, their kits do not include enclosures and footswitches. so, anyone should consider that before running off wide-eyed to the nearest Alexan branch.

Also, Check for parts availabilty before going ahead and starting a project. make sure may source for all the parts required. Its a good thing switches and LOG pots are available from local sources (epektos.com). but still, there are some cap types/values that may be hard to get.

good luck! saya nito men! what can be better than builing a TS clone for under 2k?? bwhahaha!!!!

Here are some resources to start off with:

muzique.com
geofex.com
DIYstomboxes.com

I plan to source my first kit from BYOC (a tribooster)
http://www.buildyourownclone.com/index.html

FYI, Alexan also offers kits.  I already have an OD kit but haven't started yet.  (I have a feeling that time/availability will be one of the major stumbling blocks.  Builds might take months!)

NOTE:  Since DIY community nga ito, sana we focus our posts and discussion on relevant and useful topics.  Sana naman yung sobrang basic at non-technical questions na nasasagot naman sa resources na binibigay e basahin muna (eg, magkano kit, kumpleto ba, etc.).  In short, no spoon-feeding!
sir joric,

based on my experience, it might be more prudent to start with something even simpler than that to get the hang of it more quickly. my first "mistake" before was taking on a TS-808 clone for my first build. i failed. BYOC pretty much spoils its customers with such neat kits, though. their PCB's already look non-boutique-ish.

there are lots of good FET-based boost circuits between those sites already mentioned. for example, i'm very happy with the Dragonfly Sparkleboost and it remains a mainstay in my pedalboard.

puwede na rin idagdag mga to among the listed sites:

http://www.runoffgroove.com
http://www.tonepad.com

for parts, there's:

http://www.smallbearelec.com

and don't forget our very own:

http://www.epektos.com

one of the simplest projects I got was for an MXR dist+ clone (Tonepad.com)...as in 1"x2" lang ata yung board nya...all parts readily avail from Alexan (less Log pots and 3pdt/dpdt switches). It sounds pretty good too...hehe.
its a nice starter project i think...

may tanong lang ako... hmm.. napapansin ko sa mga site na binigay niyo, naka set na yung mga PCB for the project eh.. let's say.. BSIAB2.. may label na mismo yung PCB na "BSIAB2"? magkakaiba ba ang mga pedals ng PCB? or pare-pareho lang? at kung magkakaiba sila, ibig sabihin ba may pre-built/custom built PCB's na for this and that? thanks.

Again...ika nga ni Julie Andrews...

Let's start from the very beginning...a very good place to start..when you read you begin with ABC, when you sing you begin with Do-Re-Mi...

It's really easy, but to get to the swing of things, you'll have to put together small skills and knowledges and wisdoms.

If you're learning Electronics for the fun of building things, I suggest you pick up Electronics Enthusiasts Projects and Circuits Volume 1.  It's available at Alexan.  The Absolute Newbies guide to hobby electronics. It's got everything you need to get started. How to ID components, basic electronic component theory, how to read resistors and capacitors, and soldering technique. Even how to make PCB's. You cannot go wrong with this book as a starting point.

Buy this first before you even begin to buy a kit.

Add this to the list of sites: http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_5/chpt_9/index.html - It has a collection of schematic symbols that would help the DIY'er in reading a schematic.

...
Ya, pwede yan. I have built a BSIAB2 on perf (pad-per-hole) board. I designed the layout myself, using a nifty little application called DIY Layout Creator. It was written (created, coded) by one of the guys at DIYstompboxes.com. Here is a link to thread about it: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=44838.0, and here is the link to the download: http://www.storm-software.co.yu/diy/index.php?project=software.

Let me know if you want to see my BSIAB2 perf board layout. I changed the circuit a little bit. I took out the original tone tone control and replaced it with a Marshall style tone-stack. As much as possible, I try do design and use my own layouts for the circuits that I build. It is a good exercise for me. Speaking of tone controls - here is a nice little application to help you design your own tone controls - http://www.duncanamps.com/tsc/

And now, to show off my latest DIY build, the Hello Mojo (AMZ Mini Booster):

yeah, it's a cool thread pero more of finished projects and pedal porn e.  more on WHAT, rather than HOW and WHY?  YMMV...

A few pointers:

1. Expect that you will make mistakes.
2. Take the time to learn component markings so you can get the values properly. Small mistakes can have big consequences.
3. Learn the toner transfer method of making PCBs. It'll make your life A LOT easier.

I'd rather be sharp than flat.
