i'm planning to repaint my guitar from aged white to wine red. the guitar has lots of scratches already so i wanted to make restore it. will there be a huge effect to the sound or will it be better if i leave my guitar that way? i'm also planning to just peel off the paint to show the wood grain so which will be better for you guys? i really need your help.

you'll be needing all of these:

paint stripper = 150php
Bondo or masilya (if ever may dings) = ??
sand paper 1000, 800, 500, 400 grit approx 3pcs of each depending how you sand. = 14php
sanding sealer spray = 200php(?)
Primer spray = 140
Base color coat approx 2-3 cans = 130php(gloss) 2++php(metalic)
Clear coat approx 3-4 cans = 130php
buffing cream or rubbing compound = 40php (good for one use)
PATIENCE = 99999999999999999999php - priceless

duct tape - 500-700php

thread starter,kung medyo takot ka pa, try mo muna humanap ng lumang guitar parang project guitar mo for repainting para makapag praktis ka,minsan nag ba bubbles yung spray paint kapag di tama.

yeah it depends on what type of paint you use and how many layers of paint you use example ung lumang gitara na aged na yung finish remove the paint and try playing it it will be brighter and when you paint it with a lot of layers the tone will become darker

may nakita na akong ganito sa youtube dati sir.. meron silang lagayan na parang drum tpos im not sure kung water un or oil. then ilalagay ung mga paint dun(cguro oil based paint para di humalo sa tubig) then idi-dip slowly ung guitar body. cool nga eh.. gusto ko sana gayahin pero nakakatakot baka pumalpak.. heheh

nabasa ko sa isang article gibson guys said that it gives daw much warmer tones etc. blah blah.

i'll have to play with my burst strat body 1st before making it a seafoam green by a professional luthier. gamit ko, lighter and anything i can find in the house.

of course.. syempre nagvvibrate ang wood as you strum the strings.. paint affects it in a way coz sometimes it lessens the vibrations of the pores of the wood, etc.. kanya-kanyang taste nalang din yan.. katulad ko, i chose a PRS SE Standard kasi matte/satin finish lang.. compared sa Santana SE na gloss finish, etc.. to me, the Santana sounded treblier at the same amp settings.. and the Standard much warmer.. pero marami parin factors na dapat iconsider, hindi lang paint.. like hardware, construction nung mga joints, pati not all same woods give out the same tone.. but that's another story..

long story short, yes, paint affects the sound/tone of the guitar mainly due to resonation..
