maybe drummerboy82 refers to the giant step which does not work like the duallist
seeing how thomas lang uses the giant step, you actually need to learn both heel down and heel up playing to be able to utilize both beaters. you cant cheat that :D

yup, advice ko rin na try mo na lang mag-ipon para makabili ng mga signatures.
parang cymbals din yan, don't buy ones that are in sets, mag-ipon ka na lang para makabili ng high-end ones. it'll really be worth it in the end kasi talagang tumatagal at high quality ang mga ito. hehe. :D

yung 3005, 2.33 naman yata ang rims nya.. di ko matandaan eh.. makapal at mabigat yung snare na yan... try mo paluin...
go for the maple..mas ok ang tunog nya sa birch.. compare mo.

I bought a natural finish birch snare. I used it sa gig last night and man, it was loud. Puro picollo kse mga snares ko isang pearl maple picollo at isang free floating na brass snare so I bought this 14"x5.5" para maiba naman. Lite jazz kse tugtugan namen.
Ok naman yun mga advice nyo at naaprecciate ko. Although at this point in my drummers life, I'd rather buy things for my kid rather than spend money on high end stuff. Anyweiz ok naman yun Sonor snares for me. Nasa tamang pagaalaga lang at pag-tune.

As long as it is tuned properly to your preference, It's an excellent snare. And at 6k for a branded snare, mura na yan... If you don't mind it being made in China...

As long as it's tuned to your preference, you might think that it's the sweetest sounding snare ever made...
Personally, my snare is a 14" x 6.5" Pearl Free Floating Maple... Yun nga lang made in Taiwan. I've had it for over 7 years now, and it's still the snare I mainly use and come back to over and over again...
Ikaw naman ang gagawa ng tunog ng snare mo e. And I'm sure there are people here who could give you tips on how to tune it proplerly. I thought of buying one myself too. (Maganda yung itsura ng black stained na 3005)

The Chinese-made Sonors, in particular the Force 3000 (3005, 3003, 3001) and Force 2000 (2005, 2003, 2001) series are really good. Ika nga, tunog-high end at a midlevel price.
I'm able to try a Force 3005 Maple snare drum, and it's a pretty good drum at a very reasonable price.
The made-in-China Sonors are actually at par with Sonors made in Germany. The Chinese factory follows the same German production processes and quality control. Modern Drummer did a great story about their visit to Sonor's China factory.
I could say the same for companies such as Tama, Pearl, and Mapex, who has manufacturing facilities in China and Taiwan. I guess we should not easily judge a product by where it was made.
My main snare drum right now with my band K24/7 is a 5x13" Tama Artwood Maple. It is Taiwan-made, but who cares about where it was manufactured? It looks and sounds great; I feel proud that lots of fellow drummers drool over it hehehe!

Well, if you have relatives and friends in the States, you can ask them a favor and let them purchase your desired gear for you. Kayu-kayo na mag-usap kung pano babayaran, ishi-ship, etc.
Or, you can try any of those online music stores. I don't have any first-hand experiences with that yet, so I can't testify on that.

Hmmm.... A friend of mine just recently purchased a Sonor force 2005 full birch snare. It looked birch in the outside, but when i saw the inner ply it was verry white and powdery, much like basswood or mahogany.
The snare was really cheap! around 5K for an all birch snare is just too good to be true.
But then again I could be wrong... pls correct me sonor experts out there...
ano bang wood nitong force 2005? maybe its called "full" birch only because of its outer ply of birch?
By the way the snare sounds good! :)

It sounds good both live and recorded to think na yun stock heads pa din nya ang gamit ko. I am very satisfied with it.
Although hindi ko matukoy kung 100% birch nga ang shell nya, I am sure that for that price alone, this snare can be considered a great find(budget wise).

I called JB Mega, maple is 8k.. been to Salonga Cubao kaninang 6pm.. maple is 8k tlga, birch is 5k... i was hoping that they still have their stock of birch snare.. sad to say.. out of stock! maple na lang available.. discount of 20% down to almost 6.5k... nasa warehouse pa nila.. babalik pa ako bukas.. wag na lang.. abang na lang ako siguro ng next shipment.. they jotted down my name and contact number naman and they promise to inform me when they have that birch snare.. tiring day..

Hey congrats if ever nabili mo na yung Birch Snare...
Pero if I would suggest, yung maple sana bilin mo. I also own a Sonor Force 3005 Full-Maple. One of the sweetest sounding snares I own right now. Ang dali pang i-tono. When tuned medium tight, never had a problem with overtones. And I don't use muffling or O-rings! Ang lakas pa! It cuts through the loudest music with a very distinctive sound.
One more difference between the 2005 Birch and 3005 Maple snares is that the Birch has 8 tuning lugs... the Maple has 10...

dati kasi panay brass picollo lang gamit ko pero as time goes by marealize mo na may sound ka nahahanapin na hindi fit for brass snare sound... go for wood mga bros :evil:

Maple and birch are light wood in general. The metal parts of the drum - hoops, lugs, mounts, etc. - are more influential to a drum's overall weight.
oh i see! now i know! way back, i thought that Birch are more dense and "makunat" type of thing which give the focused sound and on the other hand, Maple are more like crispy type of wood which gives the open and loud personality.. hehehe.. my bad! mas mabigat kasi yung BD ng Gretsch Black hawk kesa dun sa Pearl Export series eh..
i should really have to study more about those woods! time to check the DTB!!! Thanks Sir Dio for the info and correction!
hopefully mamaya, pupunta na ako ng Salonga Cubao and time to fully pay the snare.. makukuha ko naren! Yes!

nung naginquire ako, konti na lang daw stocks nila. pero 2 days before ko kunin, sabi nagiisa na lang daw kaya kinuha ko na, pero syempre ininspeksyon ko muna kung ayos bago ko binili. try mo pa din magtanong sa ibang branch, baka kc meron pang stocks.

bro joseph, ang technique ko sa tuning neto ngayon, equal tension tuning.. literally.. each lug, same tension.. ewan ko lang.. hehehe.. naformulate ko lang na teyorya.. nag simula ako sa isang lug.. sinukat ko yung tension using ruler getting the distance of the edge of the rim hole(yung butas para sa tension rod) from the lug .. yung makukuha kong sukat dun sa isa, papares ko sa lahat.. for me, effective naman.. ganda tunog! no weird overtones.. overtones niya eh masarap pakinggan.. same with the snare side.. mas tight ang snare side ko..
hehehe.. mga owner ng sonor, pakilala naman kayo.. la lang.. gusto ko lang malaman.. gawa tayo thread! jokes!

Yep, that's cheap! Yung ZBT pa lang, 15k and brand new, and around 8k kung second-hand. Even if bulok pa yang Sonor and kelangan mong i-restore, I'd still say go for it! Look at bro feed_back's sonor set!

well for 18t mura sya but i suggest you check first if the spare parts for those drums are still available on its local distributor here man..keep in mind that drums are wear and tear and it should have parts readily available :wink:..just my two cents pare

Wow! 49K yun diba, with bundled ZBT4 & sticks. Did you go for that deal or did you leave the Zildjians out? Balitaan mo ko sa tunog ha? Tho I would recommend changing the tom batters to 2-ply coated. I tapped the stock ones and I didn't like the sound. Unlike the Visions which sound good out of the box coz of the 2-ply protones.

ako naman, I tapped the stock ones and found it ok. baka naman kelangan lang i set up or tune ng mabuti.

I have a Force 2005 kit..actually pinag pilian ko before yung Pearl Export at yang Force 2005.. since all birch and 9 ply yung Force 2005, saka heavy duty din naman yung hardware, yun na yung kinuha ko.. di naman ako nag sisi. maganda kasi tunog..

I would suggest try mo rin yung snare (kung pwede). Yung ibang birch hindi ko masyado gusto sa tenga pero ung birch ng sonor iba (that is kung scandinavian birch yan pero since 3007 yan, malamang hindi). Isang birch lang ang nagustuhan ko sa mga nasubukan ko -- sonor s classix -- sobrang ganda ng tunog and feel nito..
So, wala namang mawawala kung itatry mo, malay mo magustuhan mo ;-)

This is a short clip testing my new Sonor Special Edition 13x7 Snare.. :-)
batter head is slightly higher than resonant head. i think about 4 notes higher than reso head ang tuning ko jan. snare wires are loose. :)
Pareho lang din pala..hehe Sarap nga talaga pag loose yung snare wires. Tiyagaan lang talaga sa tuning para makuha yung tunog nitong snare na to.Salamat sir! :-D

Sonor Force 3005 Maple Snare = 8,200 Sonor Special Edition 13x7 Birch = 7,500
Inputs naman po kung alin ang mas mganda malapit na kasi mabuo ang budget ko eh.

Sonor 3005 Maple Snare - naka 2.3mm power hoops na yan pag binili mo. Sonor Special Edition Snare - naka 1.6mm hoops lang siya.
for me mas maganda ata ang hardwares ng 3005 snare, pero kaya ko din binili yung special edition snare is mejo tight ang budget at curious din ako sa size na 13x7. full-birch shell naman kaya hindi ako nagsisisi, ayoko lang yung kapal ng hoops e kung naging 2.3mm lang ayos na ayos na. panalo talaga ang sound nya para sa price.

as far as I know, walang Sonor SQ2 na snare na available dito sa Pinas. custom made kasi ang mga SQ2, parang Masterworks, so i doubt na merong magpapaorder ng SQ2 sa JB tapos hindi naman kukunin. wala rin akong nakitang benny greb na snare sa JB. not sure sa mga private sellers kung meron.
btw, may nakakita ba sa inyo nung white na Sonor Beech Infinite? Ang ganda! 200k+ nga lang. ouch.

chaka SQ2's cost higher than DW I think... kasi nung tumingin ako sa Ebay nasa 5500-7000 USD...
I doubt it na pag kumuha ang JB eh tapatan nila yung price na yun... baka umabot pa sa .5mil PHP...

mahal ang SQ2 kasi mahal ang shipment at taxes. we don't know our trade agreements with germany so malamang mas higher yung trading rates natin compared to US. mas mahal ung SQ2 sa ebay sa US because of exchange rates at sa tax na rin and locally made ung DW sa kanila so mas mura talaga. ive read somewhere in a forum that Mapex USA even produces some of sonor's low-mid entry shells para mas cheaper ang cost. considering that SONOR SQ2 is a German technology, i would really love to have one. hehehe!! sinu kaya may kamag anak nasa germany? baka pede maka lesser ng cost pag andun ipapabili tapos parang balikbayan box na rin. LOL!

anyway, ang ganda nga! parang ansarap apakan. i wonder gano katibay ang fiber strap na yan. ang una sigurong papalitan ng mga bibili nito e yung beater; but you can't call it a jojopedal if hindi felt beater ang kasama. hahaha.
