tanung lng po kung newbie sir? if yes, then D40 is perfect for you.
di pa naman ako nakakagamit ng 400d. but i can shed some light for nikond40
best entry level kit for starters.. even aspiring photographers to become pro. very cheap. best deal for the price among other brands and same entry models. light weight.
others, you can search sa net, try mo sa photography forums sir (sobrang dami), i think mas logical yun

hehe switching from D40 to D80 in terms of prices is a bit too much hehe doble na yun.
hihi.. yun lng.. wala na kasi ako ibang maisip na model na next sa d40x eh.. yung sulit ba.

IMO, get the d40x. lalo na if you're planning to get serious. di lang naman megapixels ang difference nung x eh. meron ding added features. just like the difference ng d70 at d70s. or D2H at D2x. parang ganun.

wala bang sang-ayon sa canon? i'm planning to get a 400d kasi eh, but not anytime sooner (maybe sometime in august or september! :mrgreen:). just for a hobby though, and i also heard they have cheaper lenses? is it true?

I'm a Nikon user, first I just want to say that I have nothing against Canon, Its just because I love the colors of the pictures of Nikons compared to Canon. I tried both camera. But In high ISO's Canon wins. In sharpness they are almost the same. In funcitons, Nikon again gets my vote. But beteween the AF-area of the D40 & the 400D, I'd choose the 400D (400D got 9 focus area compared to 3 on the D40/D40x). On lenses, Canon's lens are somtimes cheaper that on Nikons because Canon "sale" their lenses (Be careful on buying Canon lens because sometimes the "on-sale" lens are soft focus so you must test the a couple of lens before buying, I never had a problem like that with Nikkor lens.). Also, Canon has an anti-dust while nikon has none. You can edit your pictures on D40 while 400D has none.
So the choice is yours. Both cameras are great. Best thing to do is borrow a D40 & a 400D from someone & try to compare the controls, colors and the features, ask the owners of the cameras what they like and what they don't like about their cams.
Sir, just a little suggestion. Why not get a D80 body instead, Its only 36K now at Hidalgo. And get a Nikkor 18-200mm VR is only 31K. Wala nang tanggalan ng lens yan sa camera puwera na lang kung magppalit ka ng lower aperture lens (which is pricey). :-D

yeah i would agree that you should try it out first. I tried both cameras and I preferred the canon. Just because it fits me right. The D40s was too small for me and I liked the canon's grip. Comfort is always important.

yah, i'd agree... try both.. parang sa gitara (sori gitarista kasi ako), depende sa "feel" ng gitara... I've had the chance to try both, and so far mas comfortable ako sa canon, so i guess i'd stick with that... kaw din bro, try mo yung dalawa.. sabi nga ni hindi_ako_si_sid, it's a big investment, so baka madisappoint ka lang kung kumuha ka ng isang camera because of reviews, pero in the end hindi ka din nageenjoy!

yep. tama nga sila. kung may mga kaibigan kang gumagamit nung 2 models, i test mo extensively. personally, i'd choose the 400d over the d40/x any day. kung d80 medyo ibang usapan na. hehe.
reasons i choose the 400d - i felt more comfortable with the 400d over the two entry level nikons, it auto focuses on pretty much all available lenses, low noise (compared to nikon) and another big factor is that most of my friends and family who own dslrs use canon, so i can borrow stuff from them.

i just bought nikon d40x kanina lang... diko pa sya na tatry kasi charge kopa yung battery.. hmmmmmm.... na test ko sya kanina sa shop! ok naman....sarap pag laruan ng mga saleslady.. ehehehe.. tsaka kaya ayun binili ko kasi most of my friends use it and very satisfied naman sila... and sa mga nababasa ko sa forums,even sa youtube.. yun ang mas nakakalamang. so ayun! thank you! bow! amen!

lets forget about the technical features like 6mp vs 10 mp or auto cleaning and every other technical mumbo jumbo
i would just like to know which one will capture better colors using their kit lens
im leaning on the d40 coz its cheaper 470USD and feels better on my hand. i have not tried taking pictures with them so i would like to get your opinion.

you can't go wrong with any of the two cameras you mentioned... with the correct techniques both cameras could take exceptional pictures using their kit lenses.
The only draw back of the d40 against the 400d is that it has no internal motor for autofocus. If your lens doesn't have a drive motor your stuck with manually focusing the lens.

canon user here. and im embarassed to see that picture as a sample. it sucks. and it doesnt represent what the camera is capable of. and a comparison shot of a scene that's not even the same is kind of weird...
i'm a 400d user. been one for a little over a year now and i've also used nikon d40s on a few occasions. personally, not a fan of the nikon. colors are great n all but low light noise sucks pretty bad. and that really matters to me.
overall though, you really cant go wrong nga with either one. i've seen some amazing shots from both. it just depends on the user.

Photoshop? Yes solution yun para sa maling color pero pag 500+ pics na ang e-edit mo within 2 days hindi na puwede mag sayang ng oras para lang mag correct ng color. One of the reason why I chose Nikon. Canon for me is reddish. Just my opinion. Peace.

im a nikon user. the two pictures above obviously shows na mas maganda yungkuha nung nikon, most probably, dahil kita yung reflection nung dagat. eh paanong hindi makikita yung reflection nung dagat, eh mukhang yung nikon shot ay naka circular polarizer na filter tapos yung canon shot ay medyo matagal yung shutter speed. kung ganun nga, makakakuha talaga ng reflection yung nikon at yung canon ay hindi.
i hope humbucker would also put the EXIF on both these pictures. im sure hindi pareho yung "techno-mumbo-jumbo" nung mga photos.
alam nyo mga tol, parang paggigitara yan eh -> wala sa pana yan, nasa injan yan. so canon or nikon, depende pa rin sa photog yan.

yeah i agree with kawal. in addition to that, dapat 100% crops din ang ginamit na photos na pang compare para makita pixel by pixel kung gaano ka sharp magrecord yung ccd/cmos sensors ng nikon and canon.
also take into consideration that some camera parts are not exclusively manufactured by nikon and canon. for example, both canon and nikon (on of their some models) use sony manufactured ccd sensors. memory by toshiba, etc...
with regards to color, there's a setting called white balance. some prefer to use the default setting while others (like me) prefer warmer looking photos. Malaki din ang difference yung file format na ginamit sa camera kaya i exclusively shoot in RAW (which limits 8gb memory cards to 310 shots) then batch convert to high quality JPEG using the software bundled (picture project) with my camera.
again cameras are just tools. the one who peeps into the viewfinder presses the shutter.

(http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c304/deraldumali/d40.jpg) (http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c304/deraldumali/400d.jpg) tignan natin ulit mabuti mga sir at linawan ang mata :roll: kung no pp talaga ito magkaiba talaga kulay. possible may cpl yung kuha ng canon kaya nawala yung reflection. dami ko na nightscapes na-compare ko na yung shots ng canon sa nikon kahit sagad mo white balance ng nikon sa tungsten +3 iba pa rin output ng sa canon hindi mo mahabol sa white balance settings lang. kaso minsan gusto ko yung kuha ng canon minsan nagsasawa ako sa output ng kulay ng nikon. yun lang po at linawan lang po natin ang mga mata salamat po! 8-)

^sir, magandang gamitin ang circular polarizer para ma-eliminate ang reflections; pero mas nagagamit ko sya generally para ma-control yung reflection (and not specifically eliminate it). i'd use CPL sa ganitong mga night shots para lalong ma-enhance yung reflection, and at the same time may control ako.
isa pang comment ko, ang pagkakaalam ko ang katapat na model ng Canon 400D ay Nikon D40x, at ang katapat naman ng Nikon D40 ay Canon 350D.

sir nakita ko mga shots mo astig idol sama naman ako pag may photoshoot ka! :-) tsaka pakita na rin sample ng nightshots mo with cpl hindi ko pa kasi nasubukan yan sa nightshots with reflection... pero normal naman lumalabas yung reflection sa tubig lalo na kung long exposure tsaka small aperture sa ganung angle kaso nga lang sobrang bright kaya maganda nga siguro may cpl rin para ma-control yung reflection. bale yung mga kuha ko sa riverbanks ganun rin ang resulta kaya nasabi ko na yung shot ng canon malamang may cpl kasi nawala yung reflection. next time invite ko yung barkada na canon user gawa kaming sample shots ng same eksena pag nagkaron ng time... :-) eto mga sample pics sa riverbanks taken last dec 24th-25th mn dun na kami inabot ng pasko kakahanap ng lechon manok :-D (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2399/2133895830_2bc93a3c6a.jpg) http://www.flickr.com/photos/prodigi/2133895830/in/set-72157603537785301

^ganda ng mga reflections ah! galeng. kung hindi masyadong maalon sa mga shots mo, lamang ka na nun. kasi pag medyo maalon (katulad ng dagat), tapos long exposure ka, hindi mo talaga makikita yung reflection. prime lens gamit mo dito no? hula ko 50mm f/1.8

shoot tayo sir katuwaan lang side by side comparison d40 vs 350d parehong kit lens lang gamit match yan :wink: yung sa tropa ko sana kaso wala na daw yung 350d ng nya eh binenta nag palit na cam :-D

para sa akin neither kasi parehong discontinued na yun models na yun (for the d40, not officially discontinued pero hindi na nagbebenta ang mga camera store ng ganitong model dahil may "signal" na sila from nikon)

nightscapes rin siguro sir long exposure settings gaya ng nasa 2nd post. minsan kasi parang gusto ko yung kuha ng canon eh. pansin ko kasi kahit nasa +3 na tungsten wb settings ko sa nikon parang medyo bitin pa rin. sa canon parang mas mataas yata yung wb sa incandescent hindi ko lang sure kaya gusto ko rin masubukan. or pwede rin may model sir para mas masaya... :-D may kilala ako kung gusto mo :wink:

eto ang mga recommended kong models based sa nagamit ko at feedback ng mga kakilala ko. pero sobrang dami talagang kailangang i-consider para masabi kung alin ang mas ok. siguro let's dwell nalang sa idea na stick to a camera that suits your needs.

gaya ng ginawa ko... bago ako bumili ng DSLR sinubukan ko muna mga cams ng mga friend ko... nikon, canon olympus at pentax...
at ang napili ko ay canon
lahat naman sila magaganda at may advantage at disadvantage... ako binase ko sa paghawak ng cam kung saan ako mas comportable kapag hawak ko ang camera... at mga advice sa akin ng mga kaibigan ko nasa akin na yan kung pano ko pag aaralan ang mga settings at pagtimpla ng kulay... nakasalalay din yan sa mata ko...

Kung ano yung bibilhin mo, kasi yun ang pinili mo eh. What are your choices ba? Ano yung target mong bilhin? Subukan mo muna/manghiram ka sa kaibigan na meron saka ka mag-decide. Malamang yung pipiliin mo, yun ang best para DSLR for you.

Open din ako sa ibang brand. basta entry level lang kasi medjo walang budget e.. hehehe
Ano mas matibay? mas mura ang lens? mas maganda ang image quality at kung ano ano pa..

ok ang 1000d kasi meron siyang live view.. pero I go for D3K pa din.. hehe.. depende sa taste mo.. basahin mo yung link na binigay ni kurtcobainer.. yan din yung binasa ko dati.. pero nauwi ako sa d5k.. baka mag upgrade ako sa d90 next year.. :-)

medjo trip ko yung canon 1000d sa ngayon..
anu ba major na pinag iba ng 1000d sa 450d??? nabasa ko yung specs pero hindi ko magets yung ibang terms dun.. hehehe :-D

importanteng aralin mo muna ang mga camera terms tsaka mo i-consider kung ano ang importante sayo. maganda na din na may alam ka para pag nagbasa ka ng reviews sa net alam mo na kung ano mga sinasabi nila. :-D

that's right marzi... sobrang research muna ginawa ko it took me more than a year... tapos nung nagkapera na, binili ko yung abot kaya ng bulsa ko at the same maganda specs... :)
basing on the two choices on your thread title, since nikon user ako. canon 1000d na hehe :)

mga boss may nakita akong SLR Canon EOS 300V (body) ok lang ba sya sa 2k? wala siyang kasamang lens. Pwede rin ba yung EF-S na lens sa SLR ng Canon?? or EF lens lang talaga pwede??

kung d300s yan pwede pa. i'll go for the 50d. mas bagong model ang 50d compared sa d300 halos one year ang difference nila. sa one year na yun super nagiba na yung technology
mag kano ba bnew 50d? tsong bnew d7000 body 48k lang :roll:
pero different league ang d300, 50d laban sa d7000

oo nga. d300s na lang kunin mo. tagal na yung d300. nakagamit na ko pareho and mas ok for me yung ergonomics at pic quality ng 50d.

ako nmn sir i recomend D300s kase kaka bili ko plang ng d300s ko at kung galing ka sa mga mid entry level at entry level ng nikon mararamdaman mo ang big jump at kaibahan ng mas mataas na entry so D300s ako cheers!

sa pag kaka alam ko almost same kse specs ng D300 sa D300s ang kaibahan lang ay ang video nla may saksakan na kse ng mic ung d300s ata if im not mistaken
