I have ds-1...I was unable to get the sound I want out of it, medyo muddy kse IMO. Sometimes, I'd get a nice sound out of it, but somehow it made me feel like I sound somebody else, lalo na wen used for soloing...

..I guess boost lang talaga hanap ko kaya mas nakontento ko sa TS-9 in front of an overdriven amp.

I got to use both pedals. And it really depends on the type of distortion you are looking for. The MXR Distortion+ does one type of sound only, like an overdrive/slight break-up or distortion. It does this sound very well though. Think the Police song Roxanne. It kinda sounds like that, very mild.

The DS1 is more versatile. It can get the Police sound and other more distorted sounds. Think alternative rock, nirvana, etc. The bunyok mod would really be great to tone down the harshness of the distortion.

Based on your tastes, buckley, tool, page. I think you need a good overdrive/gainy distortion pedal. Not a DS1 or MXR. Maybe an SD1 or a RAT. But if you have to choose between the two. I think a modded DS1 is the way to go. It won't get you exactly the sound you need but it will be close enough and would be more flexible.

YES! THAT'S THE SOUND I'M AFTER. super light distortion (to the point na naririnig mo pa rin ang pagkakahiwalay ng kalabit ng strings. i'm not a fan of "kagag" distortions (when you do a power-chord, you will hear "kagag")

Maganda talga ang Rat2. I don't have one pro mron ako nun vintage rat. I must say that it sounds very good out of the box. Mron syang filter knob na pwede mo i-adjust yun harshness or warmness ng distortion. Sa vintage rat, I can get sounds from mild disto -- the police, the jam, medium disto-- foo fighters, and heavy disto -- rage against the machine.

It's a little bit more expensive tho than the DS1. But a worthwhile investment para sa range ng sounds. I think the Rat2 has a heavier sound pa. Bands that use this include jimmy eat world, blur, and radiohead ata.

Its circuit is much simpler than the DS-1 and the Tube screamer, but it's based on a "super-high-gain OP-AMP". I'll post pics after I hear-test it. Yeah, I just took a break

Woo hoo ! Ganda tunog ! Kaya lang masyado ata mataba saka hindi masyadong "aggressive". Nag asymmetrical clip kasi ako ulit, sinubukan ko back to back na Germanium-Silicon diode clipping stage. Saka yung gitarang gamit ko, Juno, double humbucker na Gibson style. Baka kaya. Pagod na ko. Bukas ko na lang testing sa ibang gitara.

Tried it na with a different guitar and tweaked the distortion and filter pots. Panalo pala yang filter pot...it changes both the intensity and character ng sound. It's like a midrange boost or something. Tone is in hard rock territory. Panalo...kahit walang reverb naging very forgiving ng tunog sa maliliit na sabit.

Medyo maingay nga lang, me konting hum, sabagay lahat naman ng distortion na nagamit ko medyo me ingay. Pero mababawasan siguro pag nilagay ko na sya sa metal case saka gamit ng low tolerance metal film resistors. Me nakita na ko mapapagkunan. Low noise caps nalang.

I used to own a Rat2 and a Turbo Rat. They're amazingly quiet. your clone should be quiet too

sir you can shield it temporarily using an empty foil pouch (yung lalagyan ng potato chips) while testing. no kidding.

Okay na din. Eventually, I'll etch those PCB layouts shown dun sa pinost ko. Me considerations din kasi yan e, certain caps have to be physically very close to the IC. Tapos, my bad, hindi ko kinabit yung mga supply decoupling capacitors. Mukhang me function din pala yung mga yun kala ko borloloy lang. Then I used the cheapest most generic resistors and capacitors. I'll upgrade in another build.

For the measly amount I spent on it, I think a little hum is acceptable
