I love this thread!! I learned a lot really
finally I have bros to talk to about Rush...
yup odd meters minsan nga straight 4/4s lang done with taste and disguise pero I don't know, but it's still progressive.....IMHO it's the same approach done by Queensryche..it fits the song na walang overplay, check out the songs "The Thin Line" or "Silent Lucidity" from the Empire album. I believe this approach is also done by Pink Floyd, albums like "Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall" yun nga lang medyo iba ang message ng mga songs pero we can see na it's difficult to keep it simple but very progressive pa rin.
Yup personal freedom and individuality is very dominant in Rush Lyrics, from the song Subdvisions that lyric phrase which I love "In the High School halls, in the shopping malls, conform or be cast out". haaay makabasa na nga ulit ng mga lyrics!!
@drumster
Thanks for the insights in a drummer's perspective sir, surely magbabad na naman ako ngayon with Rush songs
Yup, na notice ko nga kahit sa mga live concerts, napaka serious ni Peart, yung dalawa eh nag kekenkoy na pero si Peart nakayuko lang while playing with his kits.
Yup Tom Sawyer grabe, one of the most difficult songs to play, nalaglag ako sa kama when I saw the DVD Rush in Rio tapos ginawa nilang intro, I was totally blown away.
One of my dream gigs aside from seeing them play live and playing my own tunes, is to play covers of all of Rush songs. Been listening to some fusion stuff lately but because of this thread parang gusto kong sumifra ulit ng mga Rush songs
