none of these can be used for all types of music...pero ung ds-1 para saken pinaka malaki ung range ng tone...pede mo gamiting fuzz and at the same time pede mo gawing warm and sort of an overdrive....pag nakulangan ka ng tone edi pa mod mo nalang then cguro by then you will have the tones u want....

havent really tried it personally though i have seen several forumites using them. looks promising based on reviews. soundclips also sound good (but dont rely too much on them)
another suggestion is getting a ds1 then get the bakemono mod or maybe an hm100 and the same mod.

no question about it... Boss DS1 ang versatile among the three... even joe satriani and steve vai use that pedal... very responsive kasi yun eh... pero in my opinion, try mo rocktron pedals... yun talaga yung innovative pagdating sa mga pedals... others say mas maganda yung circuit nila kaysa sa mga boss pedals.. which is very true.. tsaka walang noise na tutunog sa playing mo... try to search your sound at www.musiciansfriend.com or www.rocktron.com :-D

tungkol sa behringer gdi21 (sansamp gt2 clone).. oo gayang gaya. yun lang masasabi ko. meron akong sansamp gt2 dati at behringer gdi21 at the same time.. pareho naman. sabi ng iba, hummy yung gdi.. pero depende rin sa settings na gagamitin mo. ang timplahan ko dito hi gain na may chug, ok naman. walang problema.
sa 3 pinagpipilian mo, knin mo na lang yung df7 para marami kang choices. siguro naman makakahanap ka dun ng gusto mong setting at tone. kung gusto mo ng analog tlga.. mag ds1 ka na lang. sa pagkakaalam ko, yung df7, dgital siya. pero so what.. as if naman sobrang halatang digital. pakinggan mo yung sa youtube.. search mo "gearwire distortion factory". may testing sila niyang pedal na yan.
kung makahanap ka ng sd2 dual overdrive, kunin mo na yun. ok tlga tunog nun.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Crunch Box to death. But I think it's a one trick pony. What else can it do aside from being the proverbial 'Marshall in a box'? Put it past 12 o' clock and it becomes fizzy. Stack it with a low gain OD and you'll get more tones from it. That's the way to go with it. Otherwise, I would recommend either a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 or an OCD for versatility. But of course everything is relative to availability and budget. So my vote goes to Boss gain pedals.

Hehe I have an OS-2, yung OD function yung gamit ko sa kaniya. Ok yung low to mid gain settings niya with the mix close to the middle but a bit biased to DS, to my ears it sounded better to the DS-1 hehe. But I have a BD-2 as well at mas gusto ko yung mid gain dirt ng BD-2 over the OS-2, that's why I use it for OD boost na lang hehe. :-)

personally though, kung bibili ako ng overdrive/distortion pedal, choices ko lang are (rank highest to lowest):
1.) Radial Tone Bone Tri mode = kahit thrash metal kaya! 3 options pa! 2.) Boss Fender Bassman '59 = galing pang blues solo! di kaya ang metal rhythm, pero ang ganda ng midrange nya, punchy 3.) sansamp tri AC = well, 3 settings and rock and roll na rock and roll! kayang ma challenge ng mod ang tunog though. 4.) sansamp GT2 = versatile distortion and DI sya. kayang kaya ma challenge ng mod though
may kamahalan choices ko (pero, ni isa nyan, wala ako, hehehe) ... dahil para saken, ang overdrive/distortion has to sound as close as possible to a tube amp ... di ko talaga trip ang DS1, tubescreamer, bluesdriver, hot head, etc. kasi either kulang ang gain nila or limited lang yung kayang gawin.
kung sa budget pedals, heto na siguro ang "pwede" na:
1.) Boston OD100 - ok sya i pa mod, although na try ko yung mod ni BAMF sa sarili nyang OD100, and comment ko is, medyo hindi crunchy yung palm mute nya... parang artificial sa panlasa ko ang midrange. maganda sya sa single coil, rock and roll!
2.) Boss DS1 - standard issue sya... depende sa amp nagiging panget o maganda. kung piyesta piyesta lang ang gig... im sure panget na amp gagamitin hence, panget tunog mo.
3.) Bad Monkey - mura sya and magaling mag cut sa mix.
suggest ko na lang sayo is Boston OD100 and ipa mod mo kay BAMF.

I agree. When I still had my board... (sniff) I'm using a total of 4 combination of dirt and overdrive pedals. We still don't have composition so I need to have wide range of distortion sounds to create different sounds for our covers song. Still amongst the 3, I'd go for the Big Muff. DS1 is good but better when modded. Stock just sounds so thin and fizzy for me... prolly used as a boost will be better as well.
I also agree with the Rocktron Pedals, they are like an improved version of Boss' Dirt pedals. Take a look at the Metal Planet, can go from bluesy to earth shaking heavy metal Sh*t.

yeah. very usable Marshall-like sounds from mild OD to aggressive high gain distortion. and pretty cheap for something still considered to be a boutique-class pedal.

I guess u got have multiple distortion gaya ng sabi nila for versatility. Try cascading OD and Dist pedal. Ako nahanap ko ung tone na gusto by combining DS-100 and OD-100 and I find it very versatile on any music I play Post Grunge, Alternative, Metal, Pop, Blues, etc... I just love the tone tpos combining those two with my ZOOM G1 for Amp Sim and mod effects. Try mo din ung Digitech Distoriton Factory mukhang promising naman ang specs niya though I never tried one pa. I'm really curious about ung to mixer and amp output niya. And if it would work well, then you don't need any DI or Amp sim na kasi may output na siya for amp and for mixer. Checkout mo rin pla ung Boss DS-1, OD-3, BD or OS try combining their dist or od baka ung ang tone na hinahanap mo. So far yan lang ang marecomend coz eto lang kasi ang madali makahanap hir sa pinas. :)

I agree,Df7 is an all around distortion pedal for a good budget.& types of distortions in 1 pedal and with a 4band eq. :-D

That... is now your preference bro. :-D I don't think that I would use a Fuzz with a Single Coil.. just try it. The guitarist of Sheryl Crow from the vid most of the time use his Strat guitar and it sounds amazing. I'm an all out Humbucker guy... Maybe for Blues, Neck pick up of Strat is the best! :mrgreen:

Anyway, John Frusciante from Red Hot Chili Peppers uses a Big Muff for soloing while he uses a DS-2 for rythm so If you're after his tone, a double muff might do.

amen to this. and oh dont let us decide for you. you have ears. use them. and dont ask us about that double muff youre gonna be getting. youre gonna use it soon anyway and you dont have much of a choice, binigay sayo eh. wag ka nang umarte. youre lucky enough to get free gear. just use what you have.
asking for our opinions would not help much because all of us here have different tastes in tone. sa for example, bandmate ko si incx. we both own boutique gear but of course, iba ang tastes namin sa tone.
try now, ask questions later.

Joshkoday. Mag Digitech DF7 ka na lang. The Big Muff, by no stretch of imagination, is an "all around pedal". Kahit digital (digital nga ba ? teka double check ko) at least it's versatile.
Gumawa na ko nyan na big muff and serviced a few din. Sakit sa dibdib ng tunog nyan.

When I answered for max versatility, I assumed stock pedals.
Okay, now that the MT2 and BD2 are on the plate...
I won't speak of other kinds of pedal mods. But the BAMFx MT2 (and HM100 since it's an MT2 clone) is the most versatile analog distortion I know. Like I oft say, it will go from dirty boost to Metal in one turn of the gain knob. Plus the parametric equalizer, the soft clip/hard clip, then the sushi/silicon switches and soon the clean blend knob...it can go anywhere within the kingdom of dirt. And, it cleans up with the guitar's volume knob.
Yung BD2 is nowhere near as versatile as a modified MT2.

Why? It can be a smooth OD, when gain is set on low. It is not harsh and metallic sounding when set on low gain, unlike most high gain/"metal" pedals. It also totally kicks the BEEhind of the stock MT-2 in terms of chugging and high gain stuff. So practically, it covers low gain, to high gain stuff. :-)

Honga bro.
I may seem biased but I don't think I like any of the Boss dirt pedals stock. The MT2 sounds like ipis, the DS1 is too fizzy, the DS2 matalas, the MZ2 manipis, MD2 masakit sa ulo. The BD2 is manipis. The DF2 is also matalas cuz it's a DS1. The HM2 and HM3, forget 'em they're lil POS's IMHO of course. FZ2, medyo ok pero masyado kulob ang tunog.
Ahhh hindi...the SD1 is kinda "ok" although it's a low gain pedal. Ewan ko...a year and a half of pedal modding DIY and experimentation must have made me jaded.
Lessee... the only pedals that I liked stock are the TS9, TS7 and ironically, the Behringer GDI21. Siguro naman not counted ang bowteek although I really love Psychic Sushi's Tube Zone and the Zen Drive. Speaking of which, also look at the Behringer GDI21 for a great cost-to-tone ratio. If it's a tonesucker, don't worry, I got a mod that mitigates the tone suck. And also the thing it copied, the Sansamp GT2. Those are really very versatile.

i think that if you're really OC about tones (like most guitarist) it's very hard to find stock pedals, dirt in particular that can be called an all around pedal. personally, i'd mod the pedal to get the best tone out of it coz somehow it would be more "personalized" so to say.. :-)

i dont know with you guys. the BOSS MT-2 sounds okay with me, with the freedom of the 'timpla' factor (i can make it sound like an overdreive, a rock n' roll distortion or a metal monster and so on..). maybe it's just really a matter of personal preference..

Nope, Behringer version GDI21 is actually NOT the same in terms of sound lalo na sa TWEED setting. Yes, they have the same circuit diagram. The only difference is yung semiconductor na ginamit between the two. Behringer uses common IC lang. Whoever owns it, napapansin nyo ba na may hum o may ingay lalo na sa high gain o hot wired setting?..

for me, these are definitely not versatile pedals. if you really intend to have different distortion effects from a single pedal, i suggest you to buy a simulator pedal. im not sure with the df7 coz i am not an experienced user of this pedal but judging from the features of this pedal, i guess this is a good candidate.

GT2 and its clones offer a lot of usable tones.
My personal preference is the Mi Audio Tube Zone. It's so easy to match to any guitar and to all the amps I've tried so far too.

The turbo mode boosts the mids for soloing. Pwede din low gain sa mode 2 for blues. This is one of the most versatile distortion pedals imho.

Maganda yung mid boost ng DS-2. Pero yung stage 1 malayo sa tunog ng stock DS-1. Kaya kung DS-2 gamit mo mas maganda you just leave it sa turbo mode, parang modded DS-1 na rin.

Still own a DS-1 but it's not on my board right now. Realized that it was meant more to be used with the amp's dirt channel. I found that boosting it with an OD works well too. Really can't get myself to like the DS-1 on the clean channel. YMMV

MV SH is also versatile specially for high gain side. Also good for low gain!!!

Agree with the MXR Badass '78 Distortion, I was able to try one in Taiwan. Its like an OCD V4, but with more range on the gain. Cleans-up very well too.
Another very good one is the Way Huge Swollen Pickle. People dismiss it as a Bug Muff clone. But when you get to play with the internal trim pots, ayan na, super-tweakable fuzz. From open or compressed, to scooped or mid-hump, to hard or soft clipping. Able to get classic and modern Santana tones.
I want to try a Fulltone Plimsoul. The Stage 2 knob that blends soft and hard clipping modes should be it very versatile. If it cleans-up like an OCD, this should be a very versatile pedal indeed.

O nga, I just bought OS-2 and it is a great all around distortion, if you have an amp that has a good distortion and an EQ.

guys please help,
i use a 7 stringer, my amp is a vox vt100.
i bought a line 6 x3 live, way back, same time as i bought the vt100.
..you get the idea.
long story short, the chain failed, so i'm selling my line 6 right now.
so i wanna go back to basics
distortions.
i have listed some of the pedals of my choice around my budget so please kindly give me something on this
obtw: i play normal blues, alt rock, metal, to touch style finger taps. just so you know, ang hirap kase mag hanap ng right pedal para sa 7 string, kadalasan muddy tsaka beyond recognition o hindi buo yung tunog ng lower notes

what i need is yung enough mid to high gain pedal/booster to djenty drive, or pretty much push the amps saturation / breakup to a very beefy (but recognizable) tone (kaya me mga o.d. na kasama jan sa list). (if that what it's called) pretty much can stand on his own, not too muddy din kahit in high gain mode po

I had a Jemini before. I like the Green Channel ts9 sound, yung red Channel is keeley DS-1 masyadong makapal for my taste. Pero sa setting ni Vai he uses the Red Channel to boost his amp kaya medyo organic sounding pa. Pero if will rely on the Red Channer for all your distortion medyo makapal ang tunog. Not my flavor.
Yung Green Channel I cascaded with my SD-1 ganda ng tunog, just the right distortion for me.

i somehow agree with the jemini distortion. i had it before. it's a two-in-one pedal so you can tweak the green channel for the right amount you want.. then the red one for muddier tone.. either way.. both channels are useful for me.
before jemini. i had ds-2, mt-2and os-2. if all around na basic, ok yung os-2. or try st-2.. :)
i use hd500 now kaya solb solb na. :p

I go for the Ibanez JD9.... I'va had ts808, fd2 and Jd9 at the same time on my board before pero pinaka madaming sound variations ang JD9 because of the mids.. =) plus, it's cheap at 4k bnew... =)

sort of cheating cause its a twin pedal ... but it goes really cheap on ebay!
its an awesome pedal ... it has a hard time with super hi-gain metal, but you can still nail it if you have really clean technique

For me, it's still a JT Valveboy boosted by a lovepedal eternity. I tried several dirt pedals through the years expecting that i'd find a better sounding drive and i always end up selling them and going back to these two. :-D

I also made a lovepedal eternity clone. Maganda siya for boosting talaga.
Anyway BTT, if I were to choose, I'd go with Catalinbread DLS. It doesn't sound like a pedal. It sounds like an amp. Just my 2 cents. :)

I got a used-ds1 for 500 php only. Made in Japan pa. Tho yung cosmetics fading na at yung knobs ndi na kumpleto (may naiibang isa), yung tunog, ginto pa din. :D
