MWAHAHA. i had the pleasure of meeting shinji last night at napag usapan din namin yan. minsan binubuksan ko palang yung plug to make some changes, naka-approve na yung client ...
client: yaaaaaan ganyan, mas ok.
me: wala pa po akong ginagawa ser.
client: a, ganon ba?
anyhow, bawal ba pumihit yung tech ng banda?
Well, as a rule of thumb, you don't want to play with another surgeon's knives right? Even if the sound coming from the house and dumb settings on the FOH is awful, all you can do is tell the techs what YOU HEAR AND WANT TO HEAR. The assumption is, no one but the sound system people (probably enkargadors with a little sound tech knowledge) know what can work best with THEIR set-up.
Ang dapat kasi sa banda, maggawa ng DETAILED TECHNICAL RIDER. From the number of Wedge monitors to the miking setup, to the preferred drums, cymbals and amps, you should SPECIFY these in a band's rider. Now it is the obligation of the promoter of the event to find a soundsystem that can handle the needs of the band.
But then, in this country of "One Size Fits All" stage setups, I am not surprised why bands don't make tech riders. Basta plug and play at may kuryente...
But then again, we should train the bands as well to know what they should look for in a sound system. I remember Paul Van Dyke doing a show in M-bassy the Fort. He asked his tech to visit the place before he arrived. He said he shall be using EV SPEAKERS EXCLUSIVELY. Pinatanngal yung house setup.
For tech riders, I suggest you go here --->
www.thesmokinggun.com and you'll see tech and gig riders of the most famous musicians. Oh BTW, look at Van Halen and Pantera's rider. Alcohol seems to be treated a mineral water.
