Running Bass Drum and Slipping Double Peds
« on: May 28, 2011, 05:04:28 PM »

i wonder how you guys deal with "a running bass drum" ... it's those situations where the drum kit is on top of some un-carpeted wooden stage, and each time you step on the bass pedal, the bass drum runs forward until you eventually have to pull it back.

Same thing with double peds with the same surface... the slave pedal just slips until you stop or else risk damaging the shaft connectors.

So, i am curious... what do you guys do in such situations? what emergency stuff do you bring to prevent such?

+9999

I heard this from Neil Peart on his drum video, he did it once on a college gig...
While playing the drum solo, his bass drum was all-over the place messing his solo...
He tied the bass drum to his throne, then played the same song just to complete it clean...

it works for club gigs... pero medium sized gigs where the amps are bigger and the mic-ing or direct lines are in the way.... mahirap din :(

Buy a carper or a rubber mat. Lagay mo drums mo dun. Yung sa bass drum diba may paa yun tapos pag inadjust mo yung rubber feet may tusok? yun gawin mo. Hini gagalaw yang drums mo.

hahaha! happened to me recently. wala yung rubber end ng isang spur kaya nag ro-rotate yung bass drum. yung nahanap ko namang tali maiksi...i ended up tying the kick pedal to the stool instead. gumana naman  :-P

Sinasabihan ko mga kabanda ko bago tumugtog na pag umusog yung drums, tulak nila pabalik. Or yung isang miyembro, nakapatong yung paa niya sa bass.  :-D

A lot of times. Lalo na sa mga wedding gigs ng showband ko dati. Kaya kasama sa maleta ko parati yung puzzle mat na rubber just in case na madulas yung floor/platform na pinaglagyan ng drum set. And I usually arrive 1-2 hours before the call time to check the hardwares, etc.

If no carpet at the gig site, use double sided tape. yung makapal yung mga parang foam. ilagay mo sa rubber footing ng slave padal mo. Didikit yun sa floor hindi yan gagalaw. Subok ko na yan. Effective.  :)
