Are you recording to a mono track as the others have mentioned? Are there any ambient/delay fx in the inserts? And what about your routing? It may be going to a stereo aux track?

Last thing, what about your physical routing? Is this straight to headphones or does it pass through a mixer? And what soundcard/interface are you using? (i hope it's not a 'blaster or some other)
this are my settings for my guitar tracks (REAPER 4):

*Guitar 1A
Fx  - Amp Simulator
     - Kefir Cab Impulse Loader
i/o - Master Send (CHECKED)
     - Parent Channel (1-2) <---- don't know how to use that.
     - Track Channel (2) <--- same as parent.
     - panned left (100%)
     - width (0%)
*Guitar 2A - (Same except panning  = 75% L) <-- even if i changed that to 100% theres still a bleeding

*Guitar 1B
Fx  - Amp Simulator
     - Kefir Cab Impulse Loader
i/o - Master Send (CHECKED)
     - Parent Channel (1-2) <---- don't know how to use that.
     - Track Channel (2) <--- same as parent.
     - panned right (100%)
     - width (0%)
*Guitar 2B - (Same except panning  = 75% R) <-- even if i changed that to 100% theres still a bleeding

*STEREO INPUT HD Audio Mixed Capture 1/HD Audio Mixed Capture 2 (drop down menu from each tracks)

MASTER
No Fx
Output - Stereo
i/o       - Center Pan
           - width (0%)

Audio Hardware Ouput (All of them) - HD Audio Speaker 1/HD Audio Speaker 2

Guitar connected straight to built-in soundcard (Realtek HD) no mixer or something and with Asio.

My speaker is Altec ATP3.

Is there something I missed?

salamat salamat salamat.

sir KitC eto may napansin ako, if unchecked yung master send sa both tracks effective yung panning. pag L panned wala talaga tunog sa right pero pag naka send na sa master nagkakaron ng bleeding. ano kaya problem sa master at nagkakaroon ng bleeding? wala naman akong ibang makitang settings para sa master.

pwede bang mag render na naka off yung maste? i mean hindi ko siya gagamitin or kelangan talaga kasama ang master? kase hindi ko alam kung ano dapat iset sa master para magawa yung panning na pag disabled siya.

thanks.

Ano po bang mas tama?

mic > compressor > equalizer > audio interface
mic > equalizer > compressor > audio interface

Chaka need po ba tlga ng pre amp pag record ng mic?

Eto po kasi current setup ko..

mic > m-audio interface USB > PC

eh parang nawawala/nababawasan quality pag via software/program ang eq at compress kaya im thinking of buying yung hardware talaga..

Tnx Xelly! Kita ko na sig mo pero mas interested ako sa strings and cleaner mo.. PM nalang kita..  :-)

Question po ulit..

Do i need to acquire a special mic to capture that kalanseng sound?

Tnx!

Use a good condenser to get a bright, clean sound. record in a relatively live room; not a completely dead sounding booth. you can use 2 condensers but take care of phasing issues.

iwas lang sa text writing... mahirap basahin at wala naman 140 character limit ang PM.

pwede na ang audacity pero try mo rin ang reaper. full version naman syapero may nag screen hangga't wala ka pang license.

Hi i have this theoretical question since wala pa yung mga gamit ko.

What if gusto ko magrecord using a usb modeller(guitar) like the pod or the axe fx then only use that for recording, I want to use a separate usb interface to connect my studio monitors into, the reason being that I don't want the modeller to be a permanent piece in my desk, so if wala yung modeller atleast I can still use my studio monitors using the separate usb interface like a fast track. Is this possible?

so I guess my question is, can you assign 2 sound cards to do separate jobs?

and if this is possible, will I be experiencing some latency if while tracking, I record through the pod/axefx then monitor with the fast track?

Yes you can but aside from being unwieldy, there is the question of drivers.

For one thing, if you are using an interface that is primarily asio, you can only address one device at a time. So if your main interface is the fast track, you cannot use the pod/axe simultaneously. Exceptions are certain M-audio and RME devices, I believe, but the rule of thumb is one-device-at-a-time. Of course, you can shift to using WDM if your software allows it, but at a cost of sync between devices and, quite possibly, higher latency values. Of course, if you are only monitoring from the device, then latency isn't so much of a problem. It's only during recording that latency is critical.

Another problem is how to monitor. Assuming you have 2 different usb devices, then you will have to connect both to your monitors since usb prefers to output sound to the device that is presently record enabled. Again, you can bypass this problem by using WDM but with the corresponding latency penalty. Don't think that asio4all is the answer, though. It has a 'hidden' latency of 11 ms that cannot be address by any software workaround.

Btw, IIRC, the fast track has a high-Z input for plugging a guitar directly. It ain't no POD though.

Do you mean sabay recording ng video at audio? You will need something like Final Cut (kung mac), Premiere or Vegas.

Normally, we dub audio after video recording, however.

@kitc thanks boss, I see na hindi nga practical yung iniisip ko, I'll probably just have to transfer the cables manually nalang para isang interface at a time nalang.

and lastly, what studio monitors can you recommend that's available locally?
and what machine do you personally use? I'm thinking bout upgrading, would the imac be sufficient for music production? I'm using a windows 7 laptop now but i'm thinking bout buying a desktop computer dedicated to my pseudo studio :D

thanks boss!

You can use an imac, practically a lot of people I know use a mac/imac as their main audio computer. The only problem will be with software.

You are limited to using Garageband, Logic, Pro Tools and Cubase/Nuendo. For best portability between windows and mac, I suggest Pro Tools or Cubase/Nuendo. One MD I know of uses an imac/Cubase platform and he's been quite satisfied with the setup. If you will be sample-based, however, windows platforms seem to be better because of less problems with 64-bit addressing (this is from practical experience using Play). Also note that Lion is not yet mature as an O/S for music production. Some mac users I know of still stay with SL just to avoid problems, esp. when using Logic.

Remember, its always the software you will use that will determine which computer platform you end up with.

Monitors? Try the KRK Rokits. They sound good for the size. Also consider the Mackie MR5 or MR8 if the HR is a wee bit expensive.

Set your Ratio at 4:1 or 3:1 or 5:1.  Set your Attack time as Medium, your release as Slow.  Threshold at -10.  then, kapain mo and find out the better adjustments for different types of songs.  Make small adjustments for each control until things are pleasing to you.  Walang set settings for compressor/limiters.  Everything is variable and depends on how it sounds to you.  Starting settings lang itong mga sinabi ko.  Good luck.
