...MYMP!
I know covers and remakes have long been born in the local music scene..side A and other bands..they make great covers and promote em as a carrier single. well at least, 10% or less of the time. They launched onto the scene with original songs like hold on...etc.
MYMP, is the most popular, biggest selling duo/band to promote other artists songs...mostly from foreign acts.
a lot have followed their footsteps..Bamboo, Spongecola, Martin Nievera, Christian Bautista....
whatever happened to Pinoy creativity? and friggin' hard work??
-
Eh...
That sells eh...sadly. :-|
At least Mishka Adams, Sino Sikat, UpDharmaDown, etc.'s still doing great. :-)
-
the only reason "it sells" is coz its the only thing rammed down people's throats so much that people have no choice but to like 'em... not just covers but backwards pop music in general.
if all the labels took risks and tried to elevate the minds of the masses, we could end up like japan or someday, the US, where diversity and open-mindedness cultivated markets for all kinds of art and music.
but no, the labels can't risk that. its still a business and they have families to feed. reality check for the idealistic.

"My biggest mistake was deciding to work for a record company. I'm a musician, but the bottom line in recording companies is to make money."
- Chito Ilagan
(I'm not sure if it's him. read this quote from pulp magazine years ago.)
-
It's all about the money. It's all about the dum-dum -dede-dum-dum.
-
-
i like MYMP... "come on and get me get me get me, baby im yours cmon and get meeee!"
*lol* but seriously ... if i was given front row tickets to their show, i would watch and then talk to juris and chin afterwards.
-*-
if you really hate pop that much you wouldnt watch TV, read pulp or listen to the radio... those who do that, and then complain how much they hate pop are either hypocrites or just ppl who need to get out the house and play gigs.
-
Ika nga ni Ely
"Well I knew I couldn't take all that dog food that they make I'd just as sooner put myself on a stake and burn...I saw it coming around...I saw it coming around yehehehehe..."
If we don't like it, then don't buy it. As my friend in the recording industry confided in me "wala kang kikitain ni singkong duling sa CD's". It goes for them, as it goes for us.
So I guess the solution for our happiness is just to ignore what we don't like and do what we do like. If it means going Indie Underground for the rest of our musical careers...then SO BE IT :D
Peace :D
-
-
It's all about the money. It's all about the dum-dum -dede-dum-dum.
+1
it's all about making money guys!
thats why they call it the MUSIC BUSINESS!
-
ganyan talaga eh :-D
-
i just hope it's not an act of desperation.. :| opm still lives. come on!

Siguro di pa nila iniisip yan, baka di pa naman kasi sila aalis. :-)

-

-

imo, ang Red Hot, whether click sila or not..hindi sila pop.

RHCP = Acoustic OPM
-
people need to make money, less risk yan para sa band at label. narinig nyo na ba yung boys do fall in love ng parokya? hehe
maganda naman yung ibang revival e, kung di ko trip, i just change the station. :-)
-
RHCP = Acoustic OPM
bwaahahahahaaa!
-
haha if you really want to change the economic landscape of the local music industry, buy 1,000,000 copies of every local album that you like and create a demand for the artists that you think should be tha shizz. maybe that'll make them record labels keep up with your vision

that's hard even for a billionaire, affordable but crazy. and i'm hardly a thousandaire..
my vision? its x-ray. :-D
-
music has been, first and foremost, a business. sad reality. but you have to pay the bills. it's really risky business going for originals since you may expend more than you will probably earn.
ironic, but as i remember, MYMP got famous with A Little Bit, an original. :-(
-
If it's about the money...then they should've enrolled in nursing and went abroad
But if it's their own music that they want to promote...then happyland is just around the corner...pssst....huuuy!

Dapat nag call center na lang sila..

THE BEST WAY IS TO LET THESE POPPISH ARTISTS LOG IN TO PHILMUSIC SO
THEY CAN READ ALL THESE PAINFUL AND ENCOURAGING WORDS FROM OUR

nakakainis talga na puro cover songs nalang lagi noh? tapos napansin ko pa is they tend to over sing the songs.. which ruins the original... haaay... sana maging creative lalo ang mga artists natin para hindi rubbish ang napapakinggan ng mga tao...
-though may few exceptions jan... i think kyla's really good...

IT'S EITHER LAZINESS, LACK OF CREATIVITY, OR THEY JUST DON'T CARE WHAT'S GOING ON AT ALL...
IF THEY HAVE FANS, THEY HAVE HATERS TOO..

-
OK THEN LET'S MOVE ON....SCREW THE PRODUCERS!! :-D...GAMITAN TALAGA!!GRRRR!! walang mga tenga!! si gretchen baretto nasa sm bicutan kanina..mall tour!!hwaaaa!! i'd rather just watch her like a barbie pose than hear her sing!! :-D

Producers weigh money more than talent...hmmm...di na yata wine-weigh eh...100% na yata ng gusto nila pera...
-

o db, gaya ni ms gretchen b, nadinig na ba natin sya nagbanda or naging vocalist sa isang banda? hinde. ayon sa circle, sold-out na daw ang CDs nya. :-)

totoo yan. pero the band started it even before the producers took notice.

GOD, I LOVE THE LOCAL RECORDING INDUSTRY!!!!

reality check... ganun n yta tlaga dito s atin.

totoo nga't mas magaganda ang mga kanta dati, IMHO, may it be from my parents' time or from my high school and college days.
but that's why we've been stuck on revival mode ever since the mid-'90s. because we pinoys are a nostalgic and romantic people, though kadalasan ay over naman sa pagiging nostalgic/romantic...
Pinoy's cant think for themselves.
a bit uncalled for coming from a fellow noypi (same with 99% or so of PM), medyo generalization nga yung pinost mo, IMHO. but kudos for calling things as you see 'em.
a better way of putting it would be that we pinoys need to be more proactive as music lovers and/or musicians - show more initiative to create your own rather than tap the audience's nostalgic nerve by doing yet another revival.
-
It's better to light a candle than curse the darkness, as the old saying goes.
Naysaying benefits no one.
We all know MYMP kinda, well... sucks. And most of us can do a better job. So let's all just do a better job.
Sayang ang bandwidth, eh. :-)
-
sana, if a certain musician or artist will be releasing an album, original sana ang gawing carrier single.
-
------
I remember noong 90's nang naging masigla ang band scene. Andaming naging alternative/{insert genre here} artist. Yun ang mga naging mainstream. Maraming mga 'magagaling' ang lalong 'lumalim' ang taste just to differentiate themselves from the masses.
ngunit ayaw mo namang sumama
------
And if we think that our preferences/music is better than what the masses/jologs/squatters enjoy, then show it! Why not organize free concerts/gigs for the masses and show 'em what you think is better :)
Peace!

Posting from Google Chrome (OT).
Anyway, it seems that my reply is not reflected on the index. Bug on SMF?

covers are done everywhere..but originals should be the centerfold of every musician..you need to have a song that has YOU written all over it..but we should respect what other musicians bring to the table...peace and love  rock and roll lang mga tsong :-D
-
i heard MYMP's newest single, Now. ok naman, catchy. for sure magiging hit to sa masa. though i dont dig revivals too much. for me it should be an original song should always be what you must write. personality/identity yun ng artist eh.
-

that is one of the reasons why 6Underground was created, to bring original works front and center. Let's support our "own troops".

amen.
-
hindi ako boto dun...prove what is a real talent.
-
Probably, we also lacked the support that our fellow artists need. Kaya western songs ang kinakanta nila everytime they appear on a noon time show eh kasi western songs ang gusto nating marining.
-
magaling daw kasi mangaya ang mga pinoy... :x
:-(
-
-
as far as this thread goes...
i think it is unfair that the blame goes to MYMP. hehehe.
In fairness to them... way before they were able to grace the airwaves of your local music video channels, they were really known because of their cover songs / own rendition of some 80's songs, which evidently zoomed them up the charts...
my point? there are many factors. and i am sure we all know those things and again, it is not a sin to cover songs. it's been there and will be there until we count to the 11th hour of mankind.
Children of Bodom covers Oops i did it again by Britney Spears.
although i do understand that it does suck that most of the songs you hear on local mainstream media are cover songs... thing is that there are many original songs that it is waiting to sweep the musical sense out of you. It does not need to be mainstream to be good. right?
-
gusto lang nila siguro mabuhay :)
-
Personally, what I object to are the flaws in MYMP's musicianship. The girl singer's intonation is often flawed. I remember hearing one of their songs over the radio and thinking to myself that 3 out of every 5 of her sung notes were either sharp or flat.
The big difference is that most cover bands/showbands play covers well. They respect music enough to play/sing well.
I wish I could say the same for MYMP.
-
i like MYMP's first album. at that time, for me it sounds like a simple revolution. just plain acoustics instruments. at maraming ok na OrIgiNals :-D :-D :-D
i personally bought a copy which di ko na alam kung nasan na ngayon. their next albums ... well, i kind to like it to at the beginning but i realize na
that was the time were they did a point na 'doing covers sells'. being the bussiness nature of the music industry, many tried to followed and the formula also works. it's so popular bands playing at bars copied that too in their setlist. and their it was. i don't have the specific term to describe it :|
buti na lang dumating si Kitchie Nadal.
-
crush ko si kitchie nadal :-D

...MYMP!
I know covers and remakes have long been born in the local music scene..side A and other bands..they make great covers and promote em as a carrier single. well at least, 10% or less of the time. They launched onto the scene with original songs like hold on...etc.

who's there
"kamuning"
"kamuning" who?
kamuning get me... get me... get me... baby im yours... kamuning get me...
-
sir toybitz ask ko lang... why do we need to blame others?
there is no "need".
I just happen to blame because at the time I made this thread..all I hear are covers, covers, covers. Some songs aren't even laos yet, pero may cover na.
Anyways. I moved on, and accepted that this is also a part of our culture.
-
-
music isn't just their passion, but it is their way of living. it is easier to cover a song than to make originals. if you want to be famous and gain profit in an instant, do some covers. if you want to be famous, gain profit and be remembered, make an original. medyo sugal nga lang..
-
apparently, people came up with this thing called "music business", out of music. :-D
-
its better than making a tagalog version of "umbrella" and getting famous over it....
-
obviously from what ive read in this thread
tinanggap na talaga natin ang revivals as a culture... others are like..."so what yun ang gusto ng masa ehh"
if these keeps up,the industry will surely sink...
well, korea seems to be doing a much better job kahit corny ang tingin ng iba sa music nila...

Totally, unarguably, indubitably, absolutely untrue!
Jay Durias, Gary Granada, Joey Ayala, Cynthia Ayala Alexander, Noel Mendez, Freestyle, Totop Suzara...
Need I continue?

In other words, hindi sila interested sa creativity.
-
pera pera lang yan

there is a song where the male member sang... I cant stand it.. the notes are flying all over.. I just hoped this chance was given to more talented artists..
LIVE ba ito? kase meron ako narinig na either nakalimutan yung lyrics or mispronunciation (supposedly 'inside out' pero ang nabigkas 'insoud out'). parang unforgivable kung pwedeng mag-take-2 (studio) pero parang unforgivable pa rin kung LIVE kase trabaho mo yun.
-

i blame it on the crabs. because we are crabs. little brown crabs.
k-pop and justin bieber is an evidence that we dont love ourselves.
why not just give positive feedback? reach out to the band and ask them to create better music.
fail yun diba?

it's a sad fact that most of our "original compositions" suck.
i have listened to countless radio programs over the years where they featured "originals" and "homegrown talent" and yep, the songs are so bad or devoid of hook you wonder why they devote an hour or two to them.
the only time i noticed a band's songs was like 2001 and there was this group called "spongecola" playing college alternative sounding stuff... and well, i guess everyone knows them now.
and oh, PGT Finalists Skeights also have some interesting songs. i think X2M (yes, its matanglawin's band) has good pop stuff that i can dig too.
majority of the originals though, are just meh. give me MYMP over them.

...MYMP!
I know covers and remakes have long been born in the local music scene..side A and other bands..they make great covers and promote em as a carrier single. well at least, 10% or less of the time. They launched onto the scene with original songs like hold on...etc.
MYMP, is the most popular, biggest selling duo/band to promote other artists songs...mostly from foreign acts.
a lot have followed their footsteps..Bamboo, Spongecola, Martin Nievera, Christian Bautista....
whatever happened to Pinoy creativity? and friggin' hard work??
so true. Haaay.
Yosha pa din ako.

GUYS DID YOU KNOW NA MAY WORLD TOUR THIS YEAR SI...
ANNE CURTIS!!!!!
WAAAAAHHHH!!!!!
-
While driving, wife turned on the radio, anne curtis's song was played.
I had to endure listening to it.
Hindi ba bad word ang putris?
Putris talaga. Pero original niya yata yung kanta.
Dahil ba si anne curtis siya kaya they let her get away with it.
-
If me and anne curtis are alone in a room, i will make her say putris will doing "it"
-
Hehehe!
Iba naman yun. Dirty talk. I like.
-
I'll wear earplugs if I have to. I just wanna look at Anne.

:-P blame game my @$$!!!
