gusto ko po kasi bumili ng drumset either 2nd hand or brand new kaso pinagiisipan ko lang..... kasi may nagustuhan ako brand new and 2nd hand.. so my question is... WHICH is WHICH???

brand new:
Gretsch black hawk series
18k+(50% off sa jb) complete hardware set no cymbals, no throne and I think isa lang ang cymbal stnad na kasama. Right?

2nd hand
sonor 1005 series
I saw the pics and its in good condition.
Includes 2 meinl cymbals (16" crash and 14" hats) 1 ZBT ride cymbal 20" (from the looks of the picture faded na ung logo). May stock na cymbals pa ata.
Tama snare ambassador(heads) (kaso di nya naindicate kung anu, pero its stainless)
All drum heads are Lazer except the snare (which is really not a problem at all)
Included lahat ng hardwares pati throne
18k price

My considerations:

My budget as of now is 18k+ so buying the gretsch would make me wait for another ipon to buy cymbals and 1 more cymbal stand. Of course brand new saya so mataas ang resale value nya in the future.

Buying the sonor 1005 series would be enough for my budget, its a complete set. but of course mababa na ang resale value in the near future and the series is a little ancient (may sonor 3007 na kasi dba).

I'm a good drummer so far but not yet great. THIS WILL BE MY FIRST DRUM SET.

So WHICH is WHICH?

Thank you guys in advance. I'll appreciate any comments. :-D :-D :-D

My take on mrsticky's predicament...

Based on your post... "good drummer"... "hobby"... "home use"...

If you're not too impatient and you'll be into this "hobby" in the long run, I'd highly suggest you wait, save more money and buy a NEW MID-LEVEL drum set (along the lines of Tama Silverstar, Gretsch Catalina, Pearl VBX).

I'm just the kind of person that places a lot of importance on quality and value, most especially if it is an activity I love to do and will be in it long term. It follows, I'll spend more and I buy something with no plans to resell.

For me, first kit should be new and what I really want and I'm the first to tinker around and handle it. It is simply more satisfying that way. You'll also be the one making history with and taking care of it.

Good advice.

Since kulang pa budget mo, prioritize mo yung item na kakasya pera...cymbals, snare...etc

hello to everyone!

Planet Z , Sabian B8 , Stagg SH, ZBT

balak ko nang bumili ng cymbals
beginner lang po ako (8months of home drumming)

Planet Z - Pangit po ba yung sound?
Sabian B8 - Nayuyupi ba and edge?

Sabian B8, 2yrs ko nang nagamit di pa nayuyupi, great sound, pangmatagalan but be careful of possible keyholes... :-)

I COMPLETELY AND FULLY understand and KNOW how it feels that patience can be a problem...

It took me 3 years before I could buy my Tama Silverstar kit and XS20 cymbal set... how did I try to become patient? I deliberately tried to forget about it (not visiting Tama's website, not visiting Philmusic, avoiding music stores, putting more of my mind at work and home/family and other stuff/hobby) until my savings started to near their mark... In the end, it's ALL WORTH THE WAIT because I got what I really wanted.

Now, I don't really need to test my patience of waiting even if I will be eyeing high-end cymbals within the next 2 years. I already have something good enough to practice and play on.

mukhang magkaiba tayo ng approach bro eh..hehe, pero it worked for me na laging patingen tingen sa net ng drumsets na pangarap ko, another advantage is you can also research on the pros and cons ng trip mong drumset.

Oo, magkaiba nga, dre. Para lalo maguluhan si mrsticky! Haha!

Three or so years ago, subsob din ako sa research tungkol sa drum sets... :-D

Glad to help. Was in a similar situation a few years ago. Ngayon dami ko na napagdaanan na gear. in the process, medyo malaki din nagastos / nasayang ko. As jobo said, kung kaya mo maghintay, papagipunan mo na lang mid level kit, or better, pro level kit.

Pero if i had to choose between sonor force 1005 o black hawk, black hawk na ko. Thing to consider, minsan at that price point medyo madaming features ang wala compared to mid-level kits such as catalina, silverstar etc. Kadalasan inferior ang hardware, type of wood, craftsmanship.

We're on the opposite side, I usually walk across the festival mall going in and out of the place where I work, so I really can't avoid looking over and over again on the drum sets. Even though parang nasusuka ako sa sobrang excitement, it gives me a lot of inspiration para makuha ko yung mga un some other time (maybe after a 2nd hand or if lucky I can buy those already).

@plitipiw40315 ang problem is ung isang nireresearch ko na drum set is an old series na konti na lang tlga ung reviews kaya di ko sya tlga mareresearch ng todo.

@jckazs its no problem for me if I lose some cash in the process of upgrading/reselling/experimenting gears (not that I'm rich) but I think "you can charge it to experience". kasi if ever iisipin mo na may nasayang kang pera, ok lang dahil nagamit mo pa rin naman. Maybe we can never be fully contented diba?

Black hawk ay entry level kit right? so if I'm going to buy that, maybe then I will still replace it after some time right? (maybe 3-4 yrs)

Yup, considered entry level. Pero if you're happy with how it sounds at matibay naman, baka hindi kailangan magpalit. Good point. Though magastos magupgrade, masaya naman. More exposure to different types of gear, in the process malalaman mo din yung hinahanap mo talaga.

Sa church namin ludwig accent series gamit.
Pwede na yung shells for its price.
Design is almost generic like. Single braced hardwares, Snare,hi-hats and straight cymbal stand.

If you plan on buying now and already thinking that you will change it in 3-4 years. For me, mas ok to wait until all you have sufficient funds to buy what you really want. Or maybe wait ng good sale, To purchase a decent/mid-end kit at a very low price. And tipong pagkabili mo is enjoy/satisfied ka at most, walang what if ito sana nabili ko or ayun. Well that's just me.
