I don't use a distortion pedal. Sometimes I use a big muff to overdrive my amp a bit more, but for me, the best distorted sound comes from those tubes being overdriven to the max. Distortion pedals sound "artificial" to me.

ganyan din ako. i cant afford good tube amp. sa church naman namin, personal SS amp ko din gamit ko kaya kailangan talaga ng distortion pedal.

as of today, I have 4 dirt pedals on my board. 3 of which are distortion pedals. depende sa song and tugtugan para di na tweek ng tweek on stage.

I'm starting to like fuzzes a bit more. Right now I use an overdrive pedal, unfortunately I can't crank my amp without pissing off my neighbors. Or my bandmates for that matter. :)

Same with arkeetar, I still use a distortion or overdrive pedal.. maybe till I get a good amp to bring in gigs.. either a mosfet or tube emulation equipped one will do.

but maybe I'd save up for a new car first..  :-D

Unless someone owns a Mesa or a Bugera, and the means to bring it to gigs, distortion pedals will remains quite useful on any board. :)

If the amp at the gig spot is nice, I don't use any pedal (guitar plugged straight to the amp), except for Wah in some cases. Tonal varieties can be done through the tone and volume knobs.

If the amp at the gig or practice spot is not that good (or junk), that's the time I use my trusty and "flexible" Behringer GDI21, a cheap amp modeler that pretty much satisfies my needs. That's all I need  :-D

Are there any venues that actually have tube amps?

i heard of one before in malate, i think, that a friend of mine told me. they had a boogie dual rec with a matching 4x12 cabinet and a marshall jcm800 with i dunno what cabinet. dunno if the bar's still open though.

For gigging musicians, i think it is important to have an extra distortion or an overdrive pedal just to be prepared to whatever set up your going to have at whatever venue you'll be playing in a gig.
