See if you have an executable called helpsvc.exe when you call up Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del). This service has a nasty habit of raising cpu utilization to 100%. There is a registry hack to disable that service if you google around. Be careful when fooling around with the registry, you could trash windows. Always backup your registry before performing any operation on it.

The media player thing also happened to me once. I just resorted to using other media player programs like foobar, Quicktime Alternative and DivX player. WMP likes to index every file in the folder you are accessing so like if you have a music folder that is tens of gigabytes full, imagine the work windows has to perform on that folder. Just move the files to another folder that is not within any of WMP's Monitor Folders (see Tools > Options).

Try downloading a spyware searching program like 'Spybot'. Run it and delete the unwanted spyware programs... Do a check at least once a week...

sir Kit, there was no helpsvc.exe in the list.

one thing i noticed as well, if i watch youtube vids, sobrang bagal na, kahit di ko sya play, i have to close the window para mag normalize ng konti..

sir Hunk,  wala sa list ung "hide microsoft services" , is there another term for it?

thanks

by the way: i also tried this speedfan 4.33 temp monitoring software, kaso di ko maintindihan, it shows 5 temperatures for five fans, the first one is 79C, others were 40C average..   anyone familiar with this? am suspecting the 79C is the cpu temp.. coz after booting up i ran this program, 45C pa lang un...

start>run>msconfig

there are several tabs there, go to startup, theres a button that says, disable all, click on that, hit apply, then go to services tab. now theres a check box that says "hide microsoft services", right beside "enable all" button, put a check on that, click disable all, hit apply and ok, it will ask you to restart the computer. click ok, let it reboot. not lemme know if same problem persists!  :-D

Nagooverheat CPU mo bro kaya ganyan.

kelan mo napansin ung problem ng pc mu? ugn CPU usage nagffluctuate ng 100percent? if u know when it was, try mu system restore.

start>all programs>accessories>system tools>system restore.

it will just revert yer computer to an earlier state, supposedly, if may ngawa ka sa computer mu na nagtrigger ng problem. :-)

NOD32 has a file manager scanning mode that scans files on first open then proceeds to scan files in the folder. Try turning off that feature muna then try media player again. You don't need to system restore because that will not guarantee it will return your pc to a working state; any updates you performed and any applications that were installed often include a restore point in their installation process. Furthermore, system restore sometimes deletes files that were created after the restore point so if you have important files and documents, always back those up.

doing system restore will not delete files, it will delete apps that uve installed though from the point of restoration. yes, it may not work but thinking that if the problem may have something to do with a recent hardware/software changes, it may do the trick.  8-)
