ZOOM G5
« on: October 09, 2012, 01:51:07 PM »
Has anyone ever tried the Zoom G5?

got some question about this unit before I go for it

it says that you can use 9 fx at the same time... will i be able to use like 3 delays and 2 reverbs all at the same time on this unit?

Go mo na yan!!

Got one. Malaki ang improvement ng simulations nya from the previous multifxs ng zoom. The greatest advantage I think is that okay siya gamitin sa tube amps which is not to be said with a lot of multiFxs. Wala lang dun yung mga ibang amps na maganda like a dumble overdrive special.

You sir Tonechild and Xelly are of great help to forumers... ang isang reklamo ko lang naman kasi talaga sa Zoom is yung manipis na tunog ng drive, but i've seen and heard of the change in their modeling sa g2.1 pataas. They have greatly improved. Currently I'm contemplating on getting a G3/G3x/G5 depende kung papasok sa budget ko. The one thing that interests me sa G3/G3X/G5 is puwedeng ayusin yung sequences ng simulations, makakagawa ka ng sarili mong chain without any restrictions. And yun nga puwedeng paghaluin yung limang delays or limang reverbs at the same time (I like this idea para sa experimentation kung pupuwede nga).

Another thing I wana know about these Zooms is their amp modeling. Kung mapantayan ng Zoom G3/G3X/G5 yung dirt ng ME70, o kung di man mapantayan e basta lumapit lang sa anyo, I'm might really get one of these multis.

puwede ba gamitin yung amp sim sa power amp? may setting kasi sa zoom ms50g na puwede mo iswitch yung out ng amp sim mo to input, recording line, or power amp. alam ko nasa last page scroll ng amp sims.

May single stomp version ang Zoom ngayon called the Zoom MS-50G Multistomp. It does what the two do but it's only the size of a TC Flashback. Up to 6 effects at a time and if you buy it sa states it's 4.2k in our money. Add shipping (which shouldn't be too bad for a small pedal) and mga 5k more or less for it. Baka magandang starting point yan if you want to try the new technology they're using.

This is another interesting product... Let me take a look at it when I get home... mukhang promising and very handy  :-D

Thank you for the nice comment sir. I get lots of lessons din from other forumers like you.

Not tried an Me70 though pero napansin ko na matapang ang distortions ng G5 compared sa dati. the Tubescreamer effect is really nice. kahit dun lang sulit talaga. really lots of options. I usually want a set and forget setup. for me the greatest difference is with the G3/G5 series is that it really feels like you are using stomps. very easy to operate. nakakaoverwhelm lang yung dami ng efffects sa G5. what convinced me to buy the G5 was the Guns and Roses sound demo sa youtube by one talented guy. kuhang kuha yung sound ng GNR.

If it helps, you can actually put two amps together. And then stomp away. ganun din sa ibang effects...you can put in all types of delay or reverb layered over each other.

puwede ba gamitin yung amp sim sa power amp? may setting kasi sa zoom ms50g na puwede mo iswitch yung out ng amp sim mo to input, recording line, or power amp. alam ko nasa last page scroll ng amp sims.

Hi sir. not tried it yet. pero i believe it can be done with the G5. kasi dun sa global settings meron dun isineset kung ano yung input: direct (for mixer and PA), combo front, combo poweramp, stack front, stack poweramp

Further upgrade lang from G3 is that Z-pedal na sideways din ang control and the tube booster with the tone control.

I've had 4 ME70 na ang dumaan sakin (crazy, but I buy and sell it) pero binabalik balikan ko pa rin yung ME70 basta meron akong makita    it's time for me to get another multi and try para maexpand ang experience. I'm not into gigs and more of tinkering kaya papalit-palit ako ng gear.

actually the only other zoom effect i had was my trusty G1X...I loved the sims there...more than the other zoom efx...ganda ng marshall and mesa boogie setting dun...I had to let go of my G1X just to get this one so I really had decided that this should better be for me. That G1X had been customized to hell. nandun yung extreme, white lion, silverchair, poison, GNR, van halen, santana, metallica patches ko. di ko tuloy alam how to get this setting with the g5 kasi individual knobs na unlike the previous zoom. swerte nung makakuha nung G1X ko kasi tweaked na yun. I still have the setting though kasi sinave ko sya sa piece of paper pero hanapin ko pa kung saan ko nilagay  I gave it away simply kasi di ko maitimpla maayos yung phaser nya like EVH kasi dun sa position nung phaser sa multifx.

I recommend you buy either the G3X or the G5.

Will try to look for a G3/G5 na pasok sa budget ko... unexpectedly meron nagoffer sakin ng GT8 at a low price so biglang naiba ang ihip ng hangin sakin... I might try the GT8 first tapos pag nakaipon definitely kukuha ako kahit yung G3X.

With regard to patches naman di kasi ako masyadong mahilig sa pagkopya ng tones (bahay lang kasi yung misc hall ko hahaha) I tend to create my own tones clean-lead-metal-blues.

Ako din nga pala yung nagbigay ng review sa Nux MFX-10 if you can remember  :-D :-D :-D nice toy for home use but not recommended for heavy gigs.

kung may analog board ka bro go with the MS50G IMHO  :-D

that way you still have flexibility and you get your money's worth. Nothing wrong with getting the G5 kaso baka di mo rin magamit lahat yung capability ng G5 kung idadagdag mo siya sa pedal board mo  :-D again that's an opinion. But if yah got loads of cash and tons of time I'd say G5!!!

If you use it for heavy gigs and do performances every night create a rig that would suite you best.

I think the G5 is still 44 unlike the G9 and 7 series which are 96. But patch switching is excellent.

And mas dumame yun amp sim niya since the update (Bogner, Engl, Marshalls etc) :) Anyways dunno if this is a plus for you. kahit iplug mo sa siya sa normal speakers, you get a really nice amp sound. The mods and delays are really nice too :) once you get one. try these effects, mod delay/HD reverb/ pitch delay/ filter delay/detune/acoustic sim/ ambient goodness in one multi :)

acoustic sim ng Zoom is like heaven... from the GFX5-GFX8-G2.u na nagamit ako e yan ang pinakanagustuhan ko sa Zoom. Been reading a lot of reviews for the G3/G5 lately and most people like the mods. With the amp sims, I think mageenjoy ako dun coz i love creating my own sound and maraming amp sims ang mapagpipilian.

Agree ako sa acoustic sims. Better than boss acoustic fx.

The vintage CE approximates the hard to find Boss Chorus Ensemble 2. Quite different from my TC Corona Chorus which is quite bright. The vintage CE is warm sounding.

As I've also said you can put separate amps in different stomps. You can setup one for a Fender Twin and then another for a Marshall Plexi. No more need for dirt. :-D
