Title: the CARPET thread
Post by: Akira JUMBO on May 13, 2007, 10:48:28 PM
I did not notice any talks about this which I think plays a big part in drumming..

the carpet is a drummers best friend when it comes to playing on concrete floors..

how I hated the experience I had when the bass I was using seemed to walk away from me and so did the hihat stand  :x

anyways just wanted to ask you guys what carpet you use? and if anyone knows a good cheap place to get one for our interested forumers..

I use those heavy carpets. NEVER buy SOFT carpets, as they wont be sturdy enough to hold the drums in place. Buy those heavy ones. I got mine for less than 3k, the rest are like 17K na. Persian Rugs na kasi.
Anyway, here's a pic of my drumset and my carpet (http://www.geocities.com/dawns_pron/tambulan.jpg) notice that there's another carpet, YAN ANG WAG NYONG BIBILHIN. yung malambot. Go for the heavy ones. And make sure your carpet measurements cover MORE area than your drumset. Dont buy a carpet that could barely cover the entire drum area.

alternative to carpets is rubber matting. just stick some stoppers
in front of the bass drum and another on the hi-hat and you'll drum
away good.

about the carpet, kung no tight budget get one of those rubber mats that can stop your kit from "walking away" from you...

for carpets, i use them thick and big ones. hindi siya talaga dumudulas. :-)

Tips on finding the right carpet for your kit;

Look for the loop pile type.

Make sure theres a fair amount of acrylic coating on its underside.Yun yung parang rubber sa ilalim for traction.

Beware of its smell- most of the of them are stinky due to the materials used.

Make sure its big enough to accomodate your drum stool .

Peace!

wala paring tatalo sa DIVISORIA! hehe marami dun mas mura lang kaso hindi na masyadong decorated,or plain nalang sya. pero it will serve its purpose well.

it'll get dirty eventually due to dust but that also happens to rubber tiles.

and... carpets look classier.

Share ko lang mga boss.

I bought a carpet in SM Megamall yung sakto lang sa set (double-kick and floor tom area only). pero I notice after playing for quite some time, na dapat MALAKI pala binili ko. Kasi yung Throne hindi na naka level  :-(  (throne is half-on carpet and half-on floor).

And prolong playing made my back hurt. So bili ulit nang carpet na medyo mas malaki at ok na. Kahit mag double-kick walang sabit at comfortable na.

Another benefit we can get from carpets is that it will improve the sound of your floor tom.

Hope this info helps and advance Merry Christmas to all!  :-D

thanks to mamita!
nung una maliit lang kasi carpet ko, kaya yung slave pedal ko nakausli(and i have to put another rag to protect it.) and i like the way it gives room for the stands and the "future stands" ayos!

Post by: l_e_i_g_h on January 14, 2009, 08:55:32 PM

http://www.yupangco.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=79937"

carpet tile works for me :-)

kung generic carpet na angkop sa drums, san po kaya nakakabili, I'm from valenzuela po. and how much?

Sana may napulot kayong aral dito.. Salamat

Nice story bro, and don't worry, we share your emotions and frustrations! :-D For me its a matter of mind set, expect that the worst will happen and prepare for it. What I usually do when there are "kids" around the church I play for, I usually take out the snare, fold the throne, and put my sticks on the bag. Somehow may konting hiya naman sila not to take the equipment out of their bags/cases kaya in turn hindi na sila nakaka palo. Hehehe!

I understand that it is a very hard situation wherein you spent a lot of time and money to have your own equipment, off course you would want to use it to have your own comfort and preferred sonic quality tapos ma dadamage lang or masisira ng ibang tao. It is really frustrating and to ad to that a lot of people don't understand it at ikaw pa ang lalabas na masama at madamot. I take your side bro, mas ok na matawag na madamot in situations like this because they don't understand. If they are passionate about drumming sa well they should go through the hardships of investing in their own equipment as well.

As for the gum on your carpet bro, WD40 should do the trick, spray it directly to the gum and let it soak, it should loosen up until you will be able to pull it off.

Cheers!

The mere fact that we understand each other when it comes to our music gears helps me ease the discomfort I'm experiencing.. Anyway, thanks to the ideas you and sir Riff gave.. I hope to have a free time soon as possible to get the cleaning started. Thanks! :)

@chakky - share ko lang best practice ko, meron akong rubber mat na ginagamit as my gig carpet. nabili ko siya way back sa SM for 800php. you might opt to invest on one as well para hindi ka ma-hassle next time you bring along your set sa gigs and stuff. regards! :-D
