To get your playing more forceful, hit the drums harder.

Ok lang yun. Ako din sometimes nahuhulugan ng sticks. Even si Vinnie Colaiuta nahulugan ng sticks on one of Sting's concert at recorded pa on video. It happens sometimes. Ang importante ay makahugot ka ng replacement without missing a beat. Dapat may replacement sticks ka na ready at within reach.

May naponood kse ako band before na tumalsik yun stick nun drummer sa harap ng stage while they are playing, ayun wala yata replacement, habang tumutugtog yun band nya bigla syang tumayo at pumunta sa harap at kinuha yun stick nya tapos balik ulit sa pagtugtog.

natatawa ka pa?
hehehehe... joke lang... ok yan, i mean, you can laugh at yourself and that's a good thing to keep you grounded. :D

grip your sticks properly.

this used to happen to me a lot when i was starting off because i gripped the sticks on its butt/end for more power and dave abbruzzese 'style'. pero it wasnt so effective for me as i keep leavin the sticks behind when it gets down to nailing a difficult or fast fill.

so maybe you ought to grip your sticks one third of the way up from the butt towards the bead. there are lots of online tutorials for this, try looking around if this is your sort of problem.

to add, consciously aim for the centre of the head so that you'll avoid hitting the rims to cause your sticks to fly away. leme if any of these helps. cheers!

I've been playing drums for half my life, I've been a pro for almost 8 years, and I still drop my sticks at times.

Tumatama sa rim... Tumatalsik... Dumudulas... Usually by accident.

Don't worry... It happens to the best of us.

In fact, I watched Senyor Mar Dizon last week... He dropped a stick in the middle of his drum solo.

natural phenomenon na sa isang drummer yung malaglagan ng stick....ang importante, in the event that you're stick fell / fly....don't forget the golden rule.... "don't stop"....try to keep the beat as much as you can.

ako may weirdest experience with the sticks was when it "broke" during the last note of the song as i hit the crash cymbal. it happened to me twice. 1st time was at practice, and 2nd time was during a gig

Worse, it wasn't the stick!...Yung HiHat stand ang na out of balance!! ... Man,no other than the 'amazing' Robert Delacruz of Electric Sky Church!!
Dyahe!

So Be It.

Dropping sticks during a gig?

It is normal, and it happens to the best of us.  It still happens to me every once in a while.

Just like what Dave Weckl said in his drum clinic here in Manila a few years ago, it's a good thing because that means you're not gripping your sticks too tightly, which is bad for the hands and for our drumming.

But of course, we must not hold our sticks too loose, to the point of dropping or slipping.

I used to drop sticks back when I was so active as a church drummer.

Dennis Chambers drops his sticks so many times it's even caught on videos on his clinics.

i bet we all have our own share of experience when it comes to dropping sticks. last valentine's i dropped one of my sticks 3 times on just one song  the important thing is you should have reserves and never loose the groove, kahit ilan beses mo malaglag yung sticks basta di ka nawawala sa tiyempo at swak ang palo
if you can't join them, beat them!
