usapang chicks..este PICKS
« on: September 19, 2014, 09:16:26 AM »
for the longest time, I've always used standard size guitar picks. I then shifted to jazzIII picks. The thing that I noticed with the jazzIIIs was that I could do the picking stuff easier and more accurately...the disadvantage, I couldn't do the "funk" thing properly.

my question is this: is there a pick na yung size nya between the standard and the jazzIII (the standards feels like a fan right now, but I keep dropping the jazzIII when I play the chorus of "under the bridge" hehe)? plus meron bang ganun na shard yung dulo for accurate picking? a good grip ala jazzIII would also help. THANKS

There's an option to get pointed tips at no additional cost.  :)

I don't think anyone brings them here in the Philippines. I've been ordering direct from Chris via air-mail for the past 3 years and no unfortunate incident with the Post Office as of yet.

+1 sa Black Ice. They're available at JB.

I've used them for a very long time. Nagbago lang ang picking style ko so I switched to Jazz III-sized Dunlop Tortex picks.

I think ive used a black ice once...pero parang na-spoil ako sa grippy surface ng jazzIIs....ang liit lang talaga nya kasi kaya ang daling mabitawan pag kaskasan na.

true this. i almost lost one while waiting backstage during a gig. ang masama nun i only had one pick like that kasi i bought it for testing lang, e nagustuhan
ko yung feel. so i ended up crawling on all fours groping for my pick, which has a translucent cream finish, then found it minutes away from our set.  :-D

Totally vouching for the Chickenpicks. I've long understood the value of a thick pick, and for a time back in the 90s, I actually hammered 25c coins into pick-shaped things b but they ended up getting lost and/or eating up my strings. Either way, it was costly in terms of effort and money [because of more frequently broken strings].

Liking the mass of the Chickenpicks: easier to keep in the hand, and frankly the pick is doing most of the work so it's a lot less stressful. Pretty expensive, yes, but then if you think about it, playing accessories for other instruments [a violin's bow, a shamisen's bachi, etc] are often bought separately and command comparatively high prices as well.
I'd rather be sharp than flat.

thanks for the review mga sir.

is it the same size as a jazzIII? my issue with the jazzIII is that when it comes to rapid-strumming/kaskasan/john frusciante rhythm parts, I either loose grip or I miss the strings. sorry if paulit-ulit. hehe

You know what, I was planning on getting the 3.5mm Chickenpick last weekend but it only came in the Jazz III small pick format. Had it been offered in the standard pick size, I would have taken that over the 2.6.

There's this Ibanez pick that seems to be in between the size or the regular tortex picks and the jazz III size picks. I really like the feel of Jazz picks and it's easy to make a pinch harmonic out of it. Pero I still ended up using the Dunlop Stubby 2.0. They slide well over the strings when doing fast alternate picking. YMMV.  :-D

I just realized na magkaiba pala ang eric Johnson jazzIII and the regular jazzIII. what I have been using for the last 2 or 3 years is the eric Johnson jazzIII. I just bought some regular jazzIIIs last night and didn't like the "new" feel...sticking with my ol' EJ jazzIIIs for now till I find something similar but a little bigger

don't you get tired when your picks after heavy usage gets scuffed at the edges that picking gets harder and you get those thin plastic on the edge that hinders your picking which you have to pick it off?
