Thanks in advance! :)

bringing back to life this thread

... looking for cajonista near south, i'm from dasmarinas, cavite ... i want cajon players to try out my proto-type "lap slap and tap" cajon beatbox and see if it offers at par if not better sound and practical usage. it is a working proto-type and in its user testing stage. meet-up at MOA is ok. the unit is installed with RHYTHM TECH piccolo 13" Active Snare System among other refinements.

text 0921-5041767 .. it meets sonic sound and portability requirements.

hi.

just want to share a project i am currently doing.

a friend asked if i could make a cajon for him.  so i agreed.

the raw materials. solid  mahogany top bottom and sides.  the tapa should be plywood because solid wood will only crack after repeated abuse. lamination is good in this case :D

mock up.  pay no attention to what's on top hehehe

the struts for the strings

for the snare i used a guitar tuning gear to adjust the snare tension

before polishing.  the tapa is made of really old plywood that i found at my mother in law's house.  when i tapped it it sounded really good, not like the newer ply we have now.  it's not much to look at though, but its about the sound right?  hehehehe

first polishing session (french polish)

re the background. now another friend wants me to make another cajon!

it still has a ways to go.  but it was fun.  i have never realized that a 17x12x12 box could be so loud hahaha

thanks

TIA!

Is it worth it to buy an LP, Toca or Meinl Cajon?  Tried some of them LP Aspires and I found out that the 'snare' part (the corner) is not disjointed compared to the locally-made ones. Which makes the local builds 'snappier'....
