Wow! Talk about a classic, textbook case of 'how to play anything and everything on a G7 chord' ...  :D

Yeah, that's scott at his best - meshing all his jazz, rock and blues influences into one tasty affair ..

Notice how he keeps his thumb up over the fretboard's edge even while he's soloing. Reminds me of Pat Metheny ... not that there's any hard or fast rule against that.  Knowing both of them, they'd probably just say, 'play whatever is comfortable for you ...'

Thanks for the post, psychic_sushi! I was just raving about his other videos at youtube, and these make for a nice icing on the cake!

Hmmm, yeah, Pat Metheny... meets Jeff Beck for the histrionics and Bela Bartok at the advanced harmonies department!

But the most significant aspect of his playing that i noticed here, was his use of strong rhythms to make the outside playing fit. amazing. give me some of that, will ya, before i steal it (easier said than done! you gotta know what to take before you steal it!)

I ain't got nuttin to hide ... frankly, I don't think I even come close to a hundredth of what scotty can do harmonically. No wonder even Bretto takes his hat off to the guy's 'outside playing' ...

Oh yeah! Bretto sat in on teaching duties for scott, and scott's a big influence on him. I think scott's style spawned a new type of "fusion" school for rock. such a wealth of information in that man!
