YAMAHA DIGITAL MIXER
« on: July 20, 2008, 01:52:14 PM »

That used to be the case. Not anymore.

Nowadays, most of the technical riders that I see are looking for the VENUE as the main console. Yamaha comes secondary since nobody in the Philippines has a VENUE Console.

Here are a few bullet points why VENUE is preferred versus the YAMAHA PM Series.

VENUE is more expandable – up to 128 inputs on a single console. To get more than 56 inputs of processing power w/ PM5D you need a second console (+$65k) or the new DSP5D (est $30k)

PM Series has limited quantity and types of on-board FX. Basically no 3rd party support other than a Waves option card which offers only a small subset of process types (and hasn't been successful in our estimation).

VENUE features superior sounding mic pres and processing. You're either a Yamaha guy...or you're not.

VENUE features a redundant digital snake system as standard. Yamaha does not.

VENUE offers a direct connection to industry-standard Pro Tools w/ integrated "Virtual Soundcheck" functionality. Yamaha does not.

Yamaha redundant PSU is expensive option ($3.8k). Redundant PSUs are included standard w/ all VENUE components.

D-Show show files are compatible with any VENUE console (D-Show Main or Profile). PM5D files can only be loaded on other PM5Ds.

Cheers.

Let's just say the VENUE was used in extreme places like the Kuwait Desert for Operation MYSPACE and Lake Geneva in Switzerland for the Montreaux Jazz Festival.

The D-show unit that the Black Eyed Peas are using in their tours was the third unit to come out of the factory and they are still using it ON THE ROAD.

How is that for performance?

Cheers.
