Title: Guitar Central concert EB-October 16
Post by: BAMF on October 10, 2006, 06:45:05 PM
Plug ko muna to. We've been organizing concert "get-togethers" at the Guitar Central board since July and two Mondays a month, we get to hear the bands of our fellow forumites.

Now that this is a bigger and more "catch-all" board, the invitation goes to Philmusic at large.

Pocket concert cum Eyeball party on October 16 at Purple Haze, T. Morato near corner E. Rodriguez. Party starts at about 9 pm. Band calltime is 8:30.

1. Firebottle
2. J3
3. The Maria Ozawa Experience (tentative rin to)
4. *Caren's other band*
5. EMTY RED
6. Soul to Speak
7. COSARE(tentative)
8. Monk's Hood
9. (slot open)

Inaabangan namin ang J3 ! This promises to be the Pinoy G3 !

No entrance, no ticket. Kita-kits !

Yes please.

Dating gawi, copy paste.

Please dating lang kayo if you confirm ha. Soon, I might have to blacklist bands that confirm but do a no-show.

Ouch!

Actually, it's more like a J3+1, and the for mula works like this:

J3 += 2 guitar players and a guitarist playing bass guitar (! heheheh)

the + 1 = toybits on drums ;)

but toybits coined up a name for the group, you'll have to ask him about it ;)

as for the "G3" thing, well... we're just a bunch of hams and jazz fusion wannabes ;)

Earth to BAMF! Earth to BAMF!

This is something that should've been arranged earlier, would be great to have this documented, if not on vid, at the very least recorded (and i dont mean on your mobile phone, guys!)

decent stuff at the very least, pics to post to make the EB thread healthy, vids, the works... :)

Oh yeah video. I have a Hi-8 type video camcorder. But it only takes an hours worth of vids. If someone would (ahem) sponsor some tapes (we'll need 4) we could arrange something.

my system's down as of the moment pero naisalba ko lahat nung good stuff. Just give me ur blank cd's and I'll arrange it asap.  ginagawa ng IT team namin ung comp ko sana maayos din agad.

nakabackup naman ung drive ko so i'll arrange to cd's as soon as everything else goes back to normal.

OMG! What a show!

Pagdating ko ang naaubatan ko Blues yung banat..i'm not sure pero si Sir Delta Slim ata yung nasa slide...i swear, i thought there was a Black person playing the guitar...

Sir Psychich-Sushi...i like the way you improvise...harmoniously melodic...

Kudos to all the great musicians last night.. 'twas a great show indeed..

killer jam ulit as usual, hehe. i was late, inabutan ko na lang yung set ng firebottle, J3 and caren's band. grabe, patay tayo jan. we had a brief open jam after, nung nag-alisan na yung mga tao, yung mga adik na lang ang natira, hehe. nice jam talaga, then kwentuhan after.

anyway, i recorded some clips of the jam. the other one is putol kasi middle of the song ko na na-start yung recording. the audio in the venue was loud! so expect the clips to be "clipping" hehe. anyway, i've uploaded it to my multiply account para ma-download nyo rin if you want. the recordings don't give justice to the tone of the guitars pero it'll give you an idea as to how "lupet" these people are, hehe.

here's the link...

http://peeweevivas.multiply.com/music/item/3

on guitars: jazhombie using dominant_chord2005's very, very nice '62ri strat.
psychic_sushi using my very own heerby LP
on bass guitar: deacon blues using his neck through washburn bass.
on drums: our very own bossing pinoymusika!

Thanks for having us, Firebottle, join the jam/eb!  I hope you enjoyed our set.

Ang saya kagabi and ang-lulufet ng tumugtog, especially ung J3 and siempre si Caren!  A treat for the eyes and the ears!

Finally went to one of these gigs.

I must say I very much impressed with the talent of today. Back in my day, it was either Shakey's Taft or Olongapo to watch great axe slingers. Now, its still kind of far since I live in Las Pinas

I also noticed that with the first bands that played, it was 95% original and 5% covers. I am elated that bands now are focusing on writing their own material.

Only got to see the first three songs of deltaslim's band. I am green with envy. Also, I found out that I still have a lot more practice to do if I will stay until the jamming session.

Next time, can we have it nearer perhaps to the south? Can we meet in middle? Is this going to be a monthly thing? BAMF?

Though I already expected great music, I still was amazed at the talents oozing last night (coming from a keyboardist lost in that maze of guitarists!).

But what really made my day was meeting people whose names I only see here.  Nice meeting you BAMF, Ronnie A, Letour, and Pinoymusika. And all the others too.

I came home with a smile on my face, esp. after I knew what jazzhombie's playing is all about...

See you all in the Keyboardists EB (meron ba nun?)!

Sige ser. Let's see what terms other bars will ask for. Sa Haze lang kasi, where I was born into the band scene, they ask for so little (e.g. each person eat/drink at least P100) and they've been very good on the schedule commitments. Plus, they are friends.

But yep, I'm not exactly a part owner so no real bind to do it at their place always.

I'm planning on kicking off the Philmusicstock concert (anybody with a better name for it ?). Judging from the time frame, it should be held around December , in a covered quadrangle, with about 20-30 bands or so. Whew...balik ang grabe ng band scene of the 80's pag nagkataon.

It will be kinda halfway, here in  Manila. I'll open a new thread a little later. It should be killer.

Title: Reviews of EB Oct. 16.
Post by: RonnieA on October 18, 2006, 06:22:37 AM
Hi Guys!

It was a night of tone and good old music. As to my previous post--this EB is one of the most attended since we strated in August!

Kudos to BAMF (jobet ) for organizing this monthly event!

Mabuhay ang Pilipinong musikero. From last night's jam, its good to know that a lot of the bands are trying their new material. (eg. Soul to seed, MAHASA and Ursa Minor) back at the time we cant even apprciate new material (puro top 40 lang)

Soul to seed-----Powerful songs you have. I dont really know or kung ako lang yon but I think the singer is a little off key. Nice guitar riff and the double  pedal on those songs rocked the floor--literally.

MAHASA---Blue Raven and Company rocked the house with ther version of the Deep Purple's smoke on the Water! I like the third one.."Its a beautiful life" and the Hednrix inspired "Halika ka na sa Dilim" . Iba yung dating ng kanta--may dark side to it. Despite their age, the group is musically matured. Although having two guitarists, one was doing the job of keyboard player--ang cute ng "keyboard" niyo.
What blew me away was Blue Raven's version of a Jimmy Page's "violin" inspired solo and the slide to go with that. Havent seen that around for a while. Biglang humaba yung leeg ko duon ah!!!! OK ba Delta slim??? This kid is going places!

URSA Minor--Heavy playing and steady rock grooves for the nirvana inspired band! Great drummer!

BLUESMENTRIT--A blues band that is very light and easy to hear. Aside from the lead guitar being manned by the forum's Jmorrero (Ang ganda ng ESP TELE niyo sir!!), the balance to the band's sound is made via acoustic guitar. The band's cover of Clapton's "Have you ever loved a woman" gives justice to the song--sans the electrified verison. (Sarap pakinggan--light listening) Patrick, the lead singer reminds of the lead singer from Blues Traveler (Nice hat bro!!!) :D  The song, "Aint No Sunshine ...(im sorry I didnt get the title) comes light and easy as well. Your Material--the Tagalog song--I really like that. You have a new fan  and Im Looking forward to your Album guys!!!

FIRE BOTTLE! Just when you think things will turn around--here comes Delta slim, Pyschic Sushi, Nathan, Valve, Toybits and (Keyboard player--sorry I didn't get your name) What Can I say---Up until now, the lead slide solo of "sleepwalker" is still sounding off in my head--iba talaga ang tunog na yan! Bro Joric, maraming salamat at di man ako nakapag gitara--napakanta naman ako sa "Key to the Highway"---promise--hindi na ako kakanta ulit (hahahaha!   ) Practice ako next time.!  This is the first time I had a chance to see the guys all togther! Man, ang sarap pakinggan! Pyschic Sushi(Anton) knows his chops--great sagutan ni Joric and Nathan!

J3--Jazzhombie, Psychic Sushi, Deacon Blues and Toybits--Ito lang sa akin(and I will quote BAMF)--AYOKO NANG MAG-GITARA!!!!! Hearing and seeing these guys play--woodshed forever na ako! As Joric would say about the playing of Psychic Sushi--"its all in his fingers"  --not to0 mention his EMG loaded telecaster! Galing mo Anton!!! Crush Kita!!! Be it blues, rock, gospel or Jazz--bro, ang tindi mo! My brodah, Jazhombie (Pareho kami ng Gitara--hihihi). Those jazz lines are impecable and always in the groove no matter how the song turns--ang galing mong mag=piano at mag-Saxophone (hahahaha!) Deacon Bues rocks! Ang Gwapo mo fafa!!!! Very vice and solid basslines sir!!! O ano--next Time, "Feels so Good ha?"  Toybits is still the man when it comes on the drums! an all around beat machine!

PINOYMUSIKA! HAIL TO THE CHIEF! Sir Jim, It is an honor to have you in the Jam and may I say, ANG LUFET NINYO SA DRUMS! With J3, playing Cantaloupe--swak na swak ang dating! You get my head swinging left and right with your beat. That drum solo left my mouth open open for the rest of the jam.

Sorry I had to leave early and based on the review with "Karen's other band" seems like the girls also have something to say when it comes to playing guitar!!!

For BAMF--OO na! Napaka galing mo sa Mod OK-   -seriously, marami ka nang  customers pagkatapos nito!!!!--Thanks for a fun filled Monday Night!

FloydNikita--maraming salamat sa pics!! Ayos yung Pusit niyo! sayang di lang ako nakatikim!!! Hihihi!

To everybody who came--Thanks again for a fun experience! Sa UULITIN!!!!

God Bless You Guys!

- Ursa Minor...  no flash and histrionics, just pure music.  mapapafocus ka sa songs.  galing nga ng vocalist (ursagi222?) pero the drummer.... the drummer... what's her name nga raw  WOW!!!     *dapat sign up na siya dito sa philmusic *.  hope to see more of her, este Ursa Minor.  no kidding...  ganda, este galing talaga siya, este sila...

- Mahasa...  Hayup!  tamang classic rock/led zep talaga, not just the tones and arrangements but the whole attitude to it.  did you say blue raven is going places?  he is THERE man!   *blue raven - i shook your hand and congratulated you but i didn't get your real name. ano nga uli?*

Ronnie - loved your voice on Key to the Hiway, bro!  Let's do it again next time. May iba ka pang request?  Thanks for the kind comments re Sleepwalk. Did you or anybody notice we also snuck in "Amazing Grace" before "Key to the Highway"?  Roneil (the keyboardist) has some great chords under there. :-)

- J3... OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!
si jay (jazzhombie), gifted child!  aside from the talent, skills and technique, galing nya magadapt sa music and needs ng song.  if it calls for piano tones and piano style, BOOM, he's there!  trumpet or sax solo, BANG, yun na!
si anton (psychich_sushi) - well like i said, anton's a monster. IMHO, he's right up there w/ the very best.... he's a true fusion master --- combining jazz, blues, rock, country, pop, science fiction, gravure, j-porn, classic and world literature... lahat!!!  the artist as musician.
si deaconblues... i was hoping he'd play guitar but this guy always knows better. if i were clinton, i'd say, "It's the music, stupid."  and he proved it by laying down a tight but exciting groove
si bitoy... cool and tight, pogi pa  *hehe... luv your own!, di ba BB?*
si pinoymusika...  good to see you again after more than 10 years, jim!  and how good to see you play again. like i told someone, wala kang kupas!  i love your syncopations, risk-taking, improvs, whilst keeping the beat tight.

- Caren and her "other band"...  Uhmm... J what??  How quickly we boys forgot about J3 when Caren took to the stage w/ that red dress and red Ibanez.  Caren is like Mentos candy... sweet (looking) and tough (guitar playing) on the outside, but nice and soft on the inside (she's a nice girl!).  We hope to see more of Caren, perhaps w/ Massicridia next time.

And finally, BAMF...  kuddos and congratulations, THANKS!!!  More, more, more... and onward to PhilMusicStock... (How about PhilMusikalooza?... parang may hint ng handle ni Jim... hehe...)

Tam - Those hormones kicking in again, bro?  Hehe...

But we gotta ask sistah Caren for permission. I'm not posting it on youtube w/o her permission. Or I can send to her and she can do what she wants with it.

Caren - You may have noticed several DOM-type guys taking pics and vids of you.  Uhm, a friend of mine I was with that night, is one of them.       What do you want done w/ the videos - send to you or can we post on youtube para makita ka ng mga madlang tao?  The audio quality is poor; the video quality is ok, but the sight of a pretty girl in a red dress tapping/shredding on guitar is FAR OUT so never mind the audio!

Thanks for the reviews, guys..

Again, we'd like to commend Jobet for having come up with a more organized jam last Monday night.. He was the host par excellence last night, complete pa with interviews with the artists -- ala MTV.. hehe

Also, I'd have to say a few good things about Caren. She gets my vote for 'Ms. Congeniality.'

Even prior to their jam, she'd go around the room greeting familiar faces, and acknowledging the other forumites with a ready smile. Some girls would probably shudder at the thought of being one of the only females in the bar that night, but Caren carried herself well with the poise and confidence of a real artist.

And the guitar playing? Wow!

As the other guys said earlier, she must've made the audience forget all about the previous bands who played before her.

More reviews to follow..

Thanks Ronnie :)
"It's a beautiful life" is officially "Vita Bella"... la lang, kaartehan sa title (haha)
"Halika na sa Dilim" is actually "Neneng"... a "love" song (hehehe)

Mamaya sa Freedom Bar uli kami. La lang... plugging. :)
(EDIT: Canceled ang gig mamaya sa Freedom) :(

Louie, mukha raw tayong bata. Hindi ako nahalatang matanda. :D

(How about PhilMusikalooza?... parang may hint ng handle ni Jim... hehe...)

wow, i'm blown away! muchas gracias mi amigo! and right back at ya, i will never, never touch a slide again. heck, i'm not looking for my glass anymore, nor do i aspire to play it, heheheh... unless i listen more to brett garsed's playing, but damn... YOU DA MAN!!!!

 :D

hey man, thank you very much for the comment,  that's among the best description of my playing I ever got! :) i strive to be melodic :)

This kid is going places!

salamat!

The audio quality is poor; the video quality is ok, but the sight of a pretty girl in a red dress tapping/shredding on guitar is FAR OUT so never mind the audio!

i agree...ill ask her permission first  :P

ok, here's a gig review, humanda kayo! hehehe.

na-late ako ng dating eh, inabutan ko lang yung start ng firebottle set onwards. so i can't comment on the other bands that played before them. mahasa lang ang narinig ko na dati eh, and i have nothing but good things to say about that band, panalo kayo boys! anyway here goes, hehe.

firebottle, what happens when you put deltaslim, psychic_sushi, toybitz, and valve together? for sure alam nyo na ang sagot. shempre kalupitan! as usual solid guitar playing from sila delta and anton (i don't know the other guy eh, pero i can barely hear him) valve and bitoy provided steady rhythm all throughout. pero sayang din kasi hindi ko marinig yung keyboards. that could've added a little more flavor to the spicy guitar playing of the two, hehe. as for the tone, all i can say is maganda. maganda yung tunog nung tonelab SE, it's very organic, tubey overdrive. very warm. alam mo delta ang kulang lang sana sa rendition nyo nung amazing grace eh vibrato effect. nai-imagine ko na sana si ralph macchio sa movie na crossroads, hehe. when he was playing his tele into the pignose, pero may vibrato, hahaha. ang sarap nun when you were "cutting heads" hehe. ayos eh, isang blues at isang shred player, hehe, who could ask for more? hehe. only negative review ko eh, yung volume. hindi lang na-balance ng mabuti. maganda sana kung rinig lahat. pero negligible naman yun eh, hehe. so overall, bery bery good performance.

moving on...

"it's a beautiful world" hehe. si anton made my rig sound really good, hehe. i hope i could make it do that too, hehe. maybe in the future. yung bossa jam was killer, lalo na yung take five, hehe. kulitan na in the end eh, hehe. from purely jazz licks, to GnR, to christmas tunes, to hi ho silver away, hehe. sarap nga naman, hehe.

so in the end, this was another very successful BAMF-prod. the sheer number of people was astonishing. and the skill level of the gig was very high and very inspiring. looking forward to more of these jam-EB's in the coming months, hehe.

tnx peews!  i got the same comment from 2 other people re volume imbalance. sorry folks!  we will try to manage that better next time.

dun sa amazing grace, you prolly mean "tremolo" instead of vibrato?  actually, the reason i bought an ex-7 was to add that effect, plus wah, and volume swells to my slide sound.  now i get those in the tonelab too, easier pa.  kaso di pa ako sanay mag-tap dance ng effects while playing.  pero hanep sa tunog, naku, ika nga ni oas e, "My tone gives me a hard-on"!   sige, i'll try and incorporate it next time. maybe in the solo slide blues number ni Ralph Macchio sa Crossroads movie ("Feeling Lonely Blues").

btw, si Nathan yung other gtrst.  medyo shy sya nung gabing un, may sakit eh....

Tnx bro.

Haay...what a night....

Pasensya na sa lahat. I was not at my 100% that night.....my focus went out thanks to the guitar goddess I saw last MOnday night. I have to admit...I really admire her for her looks and killer talent. By far " Miss Congeniality " would be the fitting for miss Caren. You rock girl.

Everything's all said and done, all reviews are done and nothing much to say except thta this is by far the best EB jam I've attended. I've earned a new friend thanks to Tam_guitar, strengthened the friendship bonds with toybitz, jazhombie and psychic_sushi. Jay and Anton, Im learning more and more. God, the dave Fuze syndrome is really kicking in

GUitar One would be in the works soon. depende na lng sa schedule namin lahat. Am so looking forward to this new band.  I'd probably star on writing new material. Tam, ung project natin pare ayusin natin agad. I'll just talk to the others about it.

This is in fact my dream guitar, and after long years of waiting I finally got my wish. From what I heard NIcosci also wanted this kind of guitar, doode, magkakaroon ka rin nyan.

Sir Jobet, thanks sa tugtugan at sa coffee. hopefull there is more to come.

 RonnieA

(How about PhilMusikalooza?... parang may hint ng handle ni Jim... hehe...)

wow, i'm blown away! muchas gracias mi amigo! and right back at ya, i will never, never touch a slide again. heck, i'm not looking for my glass anymore, nor do i aspire to play it, heheheh... unless i listen more to brett garsed's playing, but damn... YOU DA MAN!!!!

thanks bro sa good comment... :-D
