A Formula for all soung engineers
« on: July 16, 2011, 08:01:30 AM »

Just wanted to share this formula. I just hope budding recording enthusiasts would recognize it.
Really big big big big help in mixing and mastering.

Here is a link.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piano_key_frequencies

Its not really complicated. Just as Bob Katz explains, when you hear a frequency from one instrument that is bothering the mix, simply look for the key that you hear and follow the formula, or might as well build a chart and look at what freq that bothering sound is and tweak on eq on it.

Train your ear.

nice post nolit. this will be very helpful especially to the next gen S.E.s....( those who did not experience DATs, ADATs, 4in, 8 track, etc... )
There is a site where they made this formula " interactive " ... di ko lang maalala... just point the mouse, and that's it. it will tell you almost everything. i trained my ears with it hehehe

yup. there is this application na parang game. Where the programs plays a feedback and you have to notch the right freq on the EQ t o bring down the feedback.

Ang mga feedbacks may certain notes iyan.  For example you hear a feedback na A7 ang note, babaan mo sa EQ ang 3.52khz or something near it.

For a fast computation, use the A4 as reference and that's 440hz.  Octave higher is times 2 so 880hz ang A5.  Octave higher ulit is 1760hz.  Ang A3 is 220hz since divide mo by 2 ang 440hz.

Feedback Destroyer.  Ganun nga ginagawa niya.  Hinahanap niya yung frequency na nag peak and babawasan niya.
