Title: What mic/s can be used in choir??

Im thinking what kind of mic/s we should buy for our choir in church... :|

from my research, 1 or 2 condenser mics can do the job but I need more options like choosing a dynamic mics or tube condenser...

Im also concerned about the price (we want to have a good price and also good performance)...

Can anyone suggest about this??

its primarily a good Choir mic (includes 3 capsules: Omni, cardioid, hyper-cardioid). 

quite a number of rental companies have this mic...can also be used for orchestra mic-ing such as in the GMA Anniversary last saturday where it was used for violins & violas.

When I get into those situations in the studio, the only mic I have for the job is a Behringer B2 Pro. It's got omni, figure 8 and cardioid modes. Also a low pass filter and a 10 dB pad.

So far so good.

Definitely hanging choir mics like the one of Samson.  Shure and others have certain models also.  The one they placed for Union Church of Manila are Shures and they work quite well, hanging from the roof down to about 2 to 3 feet from the heads of the choir members.  Two to 4 mics placed strategically will do quite well.

BTW, how many members does your choir have 30? 50?  This size, those hanging mics are the way to go.

If you are going to use it for vocal recording and your on a tight budget, you can use a dynamic vocal mic like the Sennheiser e835. The e835 is a good vocal microphone that gives an "as is" vocal output. It does not give any bassy nor a low mid sound unlike most other brands. For recording purposes, the ideal sound should sound "natural". Imagine someone speaking infront of you inside a recording studio without any microphone - that is exactly what you should hear in your recording once you listen on good quality headphones. If you have more budget, you can use the Sennheiser e914. Its a condenser mic mostly used for choirs, but also gives a very good vocal output. It adds more clarity  and presence compared to the e835.

Allow me some questions:

1) How big is your church, like how many does it seat?
2) How quiet is it? How isolated is it from outside sounds?
3) How reverberant is it?
4) How big is your choir, like how many singers?
5) What arrangements do they usually sing? SATB? SAB? 2-part? unison?
6) What usually accompanies them? Band? Piano? Minus one?
7) Can your choir (with accompaniment) be heard/understood without mikes?

sir ok ba ang samson co2 condenser pang vocal? advisable ba ang condenser vocal mics pag outdoor? baka mag pickup ng hangin pag outdoor tapos condenser. mas ok ba kung dynamic na lang?
