Yamaha NS10's
« on: November 08, 2008, 04:35:44 PM »
i'm just curious about the way this speaker should be positioned.. nakatayo ba o nakahiga??? nakikita ko kasi minsan na iba din ang pagkaka PRINT ng letters.. me naka tayo at me nakahiga.. does this mean dapat naka position yung speakers according to the " PRINT"?

I hav an NS10. But it is NS10M Pro ( another Version Siguro to ) kasi the more popular one is the NS10M Studio... I bought one from Guitar Central ( calif. )

This is also my question to the MASTERS...pero yung sa akin pinahiga ko...

but the MASTERS have different answers and opinions...

@Baldo, Musta?

about NS10, sa akin wala naman tama kung nakahiga or nakatayo, pati left or right, depende sa set-up mo, pati room.

how about your closest ( most ideal ) distance from the speakers when MIXING?
@astrobog's studio: is that 4 ft. or more?

There are actually no set rules regarding near field monitor placements.  Some engineers prefer their NS10s to be by their sides; some are standing up.  Depends on your preference.  But if you put them by the side, make sure the woofers are inside and the tweeters outside for better stereo spread.  In our case, our mixers being huge, the equilateral distance of our NS10s vs a vis the mix position is about 6 to 8 ft, positioned in such as way that the high frequency drivers' convergent points are about 1 to 2 feet away from the back of the head of the mix engineer.

BTW, originally, the tweeters of the NS10Ms are to be covered with tissue paper as they are suppose to be very bright.  The NS10 Pros though were suppose to have been compensated already that the tissue matter is removed completely.  Bob Clearmountain used this practice in his monitoring.

If you are talking about the speaker grille, the practice is to remove that when mixing, then put tissue paper on the tweeters only.  But, like I said, the practice  has been long gone.

And to get rid off NICOTINE STAINS to the woofer... naalala ko si Rey Palac with very YELLOWISH NS-10s sa studio nya. way back 1994 yata. sa GSP...
