I position my body/head for angles na makikita ko yung nasa likod, other than that i almost always use the turn lights, though naging habit ko yung pitik sa turn tas biglang liko din (though alam ko naman na walang tatamaan).

pero just last week dalawang beses ako muntik tamaan ng nasa rear right ko, yung isa nangyari sa qc circle, pa exit ako ng q.ave. nasa innermost lane ako (60-70kph) , nung pakanan nako biglang sumulpot yung motorsiklo, todo busina ( i was expecting something was in there, yung motor nga) after nun naglabasan mga sasakyan galing north ave. napa 360 tuloy ako. Yung isa naman nangyari under the rain.

i have this weird habit of always checking my rear view mirror tapos ang tinitingnan ko yung mga malayo pa sa akin, para tantsado ko kung may mababangga ako pagturn ko. pag nabangga ako alam ko either masyado mabilis yung takbo nung nasa likod ko, or I failed to look at my side view mirror before turning. usually the latter (muntik lang naman) kasi lutang ako sa pagmaneho at the time (may sakit, heartbroken, etc)

I tried that anti-blindspot setting once.

Ang lakas nga maka-guilty kapag namamalayan kong nagiging aggresive driver na ako instead of being a defensive one.

I'm guilty of being an aggressive driver when I need to catch up with time or pag may emergency.

I always put that cheap rearview mirror na mahaba (RS type yata ang brand). Kahit manghihiram ako ng sasakyan. Wide talaga para marami akong kita.

sa kin naman i set the rear view mirror and the right side mirror in pretty much the same manner as the link shows - pag nawala sa side mirror, lilipat sa rear view vis a vis. with old cars kasi talagang may blind spot spots, that's just the way mirrors were back then.

i set my mirrors so i can see when i am passing, hindi ko priority yung dikitan. pag dikitan, i rely on feel, and really moving my head to look around. it's not "reliable" for most people, some would even say it's not safe, but i guess it works for me because i'm familiar with the car. even when i drive a car with wide angle mirrors, i still use points on the car's body as reference points, and allow a healthy distance for squeezing in.

this is also why i don't easily allow people to drive my car, unless i know that the driver knows what exactly he is doing. baka kasi sanay sa wide angle mirrors tapos akala malayo pa biglang sabit!  :x :x :x

medyo hindi ako agree dito na one lane para sa tao. one lane for bikes and motorcycles sana, kaso tao? [apple] nasan na yung pinagmamalaking sidewalk clearing ng MMDA at bakit di dun maglakad ang tao? some tree hugger posted on an internet comment that "if this is successfully implement, wouldn't you all ride a bike to work?" crazy. let's see him ride a bike going to a meeting, then getting soaked by torrential rain.

masikip ang kalye, madami talaga ng sasakyan. either widen the roads or instill discipline for all drivers, lalo mga PUV.

1. tama. sobrang traffic dahil masyado maraming private cars

I hate the idea of someone flashing a pass or a badge or what i call it an A##hole pass!  thinking they are above the system. special mention ang mahilig mag kabit ng

-NBI Plates
-PNP Plates
-Lawyer Plates
-Office of the Senate Stickers
-Office of the President Stickers
-pnp stickers
-nbi stickers
-lto stickers

come on. bullSh**t ka if ang rason mo is to commemorate haha you know for a fact na kaya mo kinabit yan eh para iwas huli or parang totem yan sa kotse mo.

1. madaming private cars? yes could be pero hindi pa alarming. nagiging masikip due to poor discipline (lahat naguunahan makasingit), poor infrastructure (ang nipis ng edsa compared to traffic volume during peak hours) and poor public transpo.

2. encourage people to ride bikes and walk? good luck with that. tamad ang pilipino, kabilang kanto lang tricycle at pedicab na. tanggalin niyo mga tricycle at pedicab para mawalan ng choice ang tao. otherwise, as long as may choice, hindi iyan kakagatin ng tao.

3. as i see it, puvs ang problema. lahat naka bara sa mga kanto, di maka-usad ang mga sasakyan sa likod. jeep ginagawang hintayan lahat ng kanto. mga tricycle gumagaygay sa main roads na di naman dapat.

2. hindi naman ganun katamad ang pilipino. marami din namang nagbibisikleta at naglalakad papuntang trabaho, pero ang pinagkaiba lang, yung mga nagbibisikleta samin papuntang trabaho at school, taga malapit lang, no more than 5km ang layo. eh kahit sino ka pa kung kailangan mo tahakin ang edsa, ibig sabihin ang layo ng pupuntahan mo, kakailanganin mo talaga mag public transpo. and IMo hindi tayo likas na tamad, pero likas tayong mga hospitable or pasikat, however you wanna call it. we want to make things easier for our customers. so kung jeep or trike driver ka, sa mali ka magbababa at magpapasakay, at kahit saan ka magto-TODA para convenient sa clients mo. in turn ang clients mo naman, yun masasanay sa convenience mo, at tatamarin na lang.

3. say what you want about PPP and the private sector, but I can't wait for the whole public mass transport system to be fully privatized. yung lahat ng driver at operator may sweldo, may shift, lahat. I don't trust the government  with infrastructure, and kahit ano pang private sector labor chuchu ang gawin nila sa mga lowest paid nila I think they'd be better off anyway than they are right now. ang pinakamagandang infrastructure natin ngayon fully private, mind you. di talaga kaya ng gobyerno natin. ang mga tren PPP yan tingnan ang nangyari, pag iniwan ng private sector yan good luck.

medyo malayo na din for most people to ride 5kms to then fro from their destinations. ang problema kasi sa nakikita ko is tipong taga part namin ng boni,
namin ng boni, na walking distance pero tricycle palagi. i think hindi tayo likas na tamad, maybe i put it wrong. let me put it this way - ayaw natin maglakad,
and why would most, may tricycle at pedicab nga naman. when i was in csb, the distance between akic and main building was less than 300 meters
pero even on a good day, naka pedicab ang tao. i for one one, shun trikes kung pwede naman ilakad, to the point na pinagtatawanan ako sa bahay nila
gf kasi nilalakad ko mula plaza ng bayan hanggang bahay nila, a distance of no more than 300 meters, pero sila trike or pedicab.

the day our public transport becomes efficient, will be a day to remember. i used to ride the mrt all the time. ngayon, i just take the bus because ganon din, the
time i spend in traffic vs time spent standing like an idiot in line will be pretty much the same na. or kung di maiwasan, drive.

i'll make an exception though, pag may gig lagi ako may dala oto - hirap magcommute lugging two guitars and a pedal board!

oh btw, i like your point - we're good with customer service. pero i think it has more to do with AYAW natin ng confrontation, at any given time.
makakabara sila sa kanto, so they drop passengers a little ways past where they want to get off. most drivers, pagod na, ayaw maabala, ayaw pag sabihan
pasahero, e papara na lang agad.

The way I see it, the only way na magiging maayos ang edsa is pag naayos na ang MRT at maging regulated ang amount of buses on the road. ang jeep kasi steady lang. bus talaga pag sumingit almost 3 lanes ang occupied. either way, BS yung sinasabi nilang private cars ang dahilan ng traffic.

I feel the same way pag sainsabi sakin na malayo ang isang lugar, eh wala pang 500 meters! It's not like you had to be there pronto like it would make a difference. Filipino time pa nga tapos nagmamadali, weh? And yes, ayaw din natin ng confrontation. nakikita ko yan pag may mga enforcer sa maling babaan ng jeep tapos nagwawala yung pasahero ayaw daw sya ibaba ang haba daw ng lalakarin, eh parang 8 meters lang kasi tatawid lang ng kanto. baliw amputa. medyo OT, but I have a case in a different industry na halata yung pagka-slow down dahil sa "hospitality" natin. Ang Ministop malaki ang say ng mga store manager sa daily operations ng store nya (kasi mej olats din yung top management nyan) compared sa 7-11 at family mart na mas standardized. believe it or not ang Ministop dapat self service parang 7-11 pero sa ibang branch instead of papilahin  mo yung customer pag bumili ng ready to eat food items (rice meals) magbabayad lang sila sa counter tapos idedeliver ng mga cashier yung food items dun sa customer on a tray! yung dapat horribly slow 5 minute wait nagiging 10 minutes per customer. tapos domino effect yan lalo na sa bibili lang ng toothpaste anghaba ng hihintayin nya. yung domino effect nyan nararamdaman natin araw-araw sa commute natin. kung maayos ang sistema natin at lahat tayo masunurin at hindi paimportante, mas mabilis ang commute natin.

in short, shared roads, yes, I want them. but not without proper infrastructure and discipline.

I forgot to mention that. LSGH nakanang bwiset. Isa pa Ateneo/Miriam pahamak sa C5. I guess my point being, may  mga existing bottlenecks nang hindi mag-iimprove in twenty, thirty, fifty years, which were not a problem before. That leaves me with volume, so aside from EDSA buses, talagang masyadong maraming private cars. Whichever we think is the worse culprit, basta magkaroon tayo ng malawak at matinong train system giginhawa talaga tayo pramis
