i think there was a past thread with the same topic.. search mo rin yun bro madaming insights ng iba't ibang tao dun. eto general explanation ko sa question mo: overdrive is just like cranking up your amp tipong on a scale of 1-10 sa amp gain mo, nilagay mo sa 11 or 12 yung setting nun (this doesn't make much sense but just imagine setting the Drive of your amp Over the limit kaya overdrive yung tawag). tonal characteristics ng OD: individual played notes are still clear but the actual "punch" or "growl" is less than disto.

distortion is actually inducing ripples a.k.a. distortion to the guitar's signal to produce a heavy sound. tonal characteristics: has more gain and punch but has somewhat less individual note clarity. i am only speaking generally as there a lot of stompboxes that have the best of both worlds and still be classified as either an OD or disto according to their respective manufacturers. sana clearer na bro :)

natumbok mo na e... pero heto pang expound:

clipping introduces cut-off (putol) sa signal waveform.  take for example a sine wave...  overdrive will have rounded edges sa putol ng waves at the top and bottom of the waveform. softer-edged clipping = smooth overdrive

ang overdrive, sharper ang putol ng dulo ng waves. sharp-edged waveforms = hard, buzzy distortion

more here .

Hindi ho. Pakibasa na lang 'yung mga naunang posts.

At saka sana huwag na lang natin tawanan kasi baka may gumawa na naman ng maagas na guitarists thread.

Tama po ung overdrive is a part of distortion(well, partly). The concept of the overdrive effect is derived from distortion. Pero kung ung sinasabi mo po ay overdrive ay part ng distortion din na pedal, joke time na yan!! haha
