Post by: in_the_tent on October 05, 2007, 02:55:04 PM

I'm a Catholic and a Charismatic. I serve at Mass and also at prayer meetings, have been using KORG since my first 01R/W slaved to a Yamaha SY77 (you can imagine how long ago that was). Now I use a Studio 76 with the Orchestral expansion set an M3-73, fed to my trusty 9-yr.-old Trace Elliot amp. We play music from Hontiveros to Francisco to Cayabyab, Hosanna, stuff from the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir (my favorite), Steve Green, Handel, etc. Sometimes in ensemble (+ drums, bass, guitar), sometimes alone, sometimes with a pianist (also on a Korg unit). But always with a choir.

Sunday morning Tagalog mass sa St. Vincent De Paul Parish, Manila... One keyboard only with choir... I am ignorant of the sub-genres of church music but most of our songs are old stuff from Hontiveros SJ and Francisco SJ. Two months pa lang ako.

Tarkuz is now practicing "The Lord's Prayer" by Malotte and is vacillating between a TR61 or a TR76 to replace his N5EX.

There are a lot of videos of them on Youtube. This one I sequenced for a Christmas event last year, played with a friend on nylon guitar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjVFVm83fRg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjVFVm83fRg). Sheer joy to play. And sing.

Jun,

Nothing complicated, Kit. The piece starts with his solo, almost in free time. I hit the start button just as he goes atempo for the song proper (in eighth notes the sheet says). Notice that the sequence starts a tad ahead of the beat? I guess this was a way around, to "blur" that singular hic through the point where the machine starts keeping time.

I am one of the keyboardists with the worship team of VCF, Fort Bonifacio (that's the bldg beside Market2).

We use a Roland RD-700 at the main worship hall (sorry Jun ), although we have a Triton 76  8-) at one of the practice studios)

Triton 76 for practice lang. Rich church. Time to put a few M3's in there.

ok bro. Studiologic is a great controller, it has piano feel hammer action but it so heavy - 44lbs     and since its my personal keys I have to bring it to church every service.  ( that's why I'm selling it  :-)- it's now reserve to mr. marvin)

hi guys! sorry to barge sa thread nyo but i have a question na alam ko kayo lang makakasagot. don't know much about keyboards kase and yung keyboardist namin sa church e piano lang ang alam. my question is what keyboard can you recommend for church use. mejo malapit na kase bumigay yung roland namin sa church, nde ko alam kung anong model yun. so i requested for funds para sa new keyboard.i was given a 50,000 pesos budget although sa january pa release ng funds. problem is wala akong alam sa keyboards. can you recommend keys na available locally and at that price range. ang naisip ko lang e korg x5d, may nakajam kase ko dati ganon gamit. tnx a lot. God bless!!!

Sali ako mga bro,

Keyboardist & guitarist din ako sa church namin (Full Life in Christ Assembly of God - Plaridel, Bulacan). I am sing may personal keys kasi low budget lang church namin.
I used to have Korg M1 pero dahil bitbit ko every week sa practice and worship service, ang bigat nun. Palit ako Roland JV80.
So far happy naman ako sa performance nya. Flexible for different types ng tugtugan.

wow good budget for a keyboard! In my experience, I had once juno-g and it has lot of good piano sounds, EP's & strings.  You can try it at yupangco, I think it's sale up to nov. 30.  I think it would cost you around 50+

@jefisipbata - The Juno-G is a nice keyboard. I was at the M3 clinic earlier and those new Korgs sound excellent! For a budget of 50k, I'd just as easily recommend the Korg X50, plus you will have a little left over for the sustain/damper pedal.

Title: Re: Any Chuch Keyboardists Here?
Post by: KitC on November 19, 2007, 02:27:47 PM
Yes, the X50. The X5D was based on older 01w and X-series wave rom, the newer X50 is based on the Triton so it's sounds are much newer; it's pianos and strings sound a lot better based on what I heard during the clinic, and it fits well within your stated budget. I like the fact that its a very portable keyboard, the "end handles" are quite appealing, kulang na lang ng handle at the back.

P. Pitch carries Roland (and Yamaha); if you're interested in the Juno-G. The Juno is also a good sounding keyboard and the Juno-G is more of a workstation than the -D version.

Choose whatever keys according to which sounds best to you as long as it fits your needs and your budget. I believe both will get the job done.

Hi Bros/Sis in Christ!

God has given me a bigger responsibility at church as the band leader. Our church is located along Mc Arthur Hi-way Potrero Malabon. Maliit lang around 100-150 attendees. The church has been around for 20 yrs but sadly I can say that the band and choir are not yet that skillfully equipped but have very big potentials. One reason is that none of us has undergone proper trainings/lessons. We are able to copy some of the hillsong and other Christian bands' songs but not exactly know anything about theories/scales and I can say even the basics. With my new role, I'm planning to explore and be exposed, I believe that we need to get out of our comfort zones and make extra efforts to enhance our skills for God's glory. One of the activities that I have proposed and was approved is to have a series of lectures regarding the basics and need to learn topics of each instrument and vocals. With God's help I know that this will be a great help for each of us to learn theoretically and apply it in church.

My co-Christians, I'm seeking for your help to make this plan a success. We need a Christian keyboardist/organist who can conduct a short seminar with workshop. Kahit 45 to 1 hr lecture and 1 hr workshop. You can just focus on topics that you think we need to learn ASAP, specially the scales, effects, etc. Also if you can advise us on what other topics we need to focused on.

We have the following stuffs that we can use for this activity
-Laptop and projector - for the lecture (highly advised power point presentation for the lecture)
- Electric guitar
- Electric Bass guitar
- Guitar Amp
- Bass Amp (local lang)
- Drum set (local lang)
- mic and mic amp (local lang)

Unfortunately, the church only has a small budget for these activities. I hope someone will be touched by the Lord to make time and teach us for FREE (Transportation, food and love gift only). I believe that God will reward you for your act of kindness.

Thank you and God Bless!!! Our church needs you!

Anyone who is touched by God to serve Him through this activity, please text me at 09174697410.

try to canvass first sir,....nowadays most branded keyboard amps are China/Malaysia made unless directly got it to Japan.

kapatid, in my experience di po talaga maganda magsaksak ng keyboard sa guitar amp. pero kung talagang no choice, me send return ba yung peavey? sa return mo ipasok para mabypass yung (i think) preamp. natry ko ito sa laney guitar amp. better sounding naman sya kesa kapag nasa input. pero kung ako sa inyo.. sa PA na lang. mas maganda syempre. me monitors naman kayo diba?

kung sa ganung budget, for monitoring the keyboard.. buy na lang kayo ng china made powered mixer sa raon tsaka isang speaker. pero di ba kaya ng PA nyo nalang?

I wouldn't connect a keyboard to a guitar amp. For one thing, the amp expects guitar level signals and keyboards are usually at line level so it's very easy to overdrive and distort the amp, even at very low volume levels from the keyboard. You practically have no control over volume.

Secondly, guitar amps aren't voiced for full range signals that emanate from a keyboard. Bass suffers and usually highs are missing since guitar amps do not have tweeters, only a single full range driver.

Sometimes the best way to connect a keyboard is directly to a mixer and just make sure you have adequate means of monitoring from your playing position. I have an old Roland MA-20 micro monitor that I use for personal monitoring. I mount it on a mic stand and I position the monitor at ear level. Except for relatively low bass, this works well for low to relatively mid volume stage levels. If you have something similar, you can do the same.

Normally, I would say Triton, but it depends on what you work better with and which sounds you prefer. The beauty of PSRs is that they have speakers so you can use them even without a PA system or monitor. It has XG, sounds from the Motif and Tyros line so you're quite set up sonically. Of course, it does lack sound editing features and it's sequencer is not exactly as in depth as the Triton's.

I'm also a kboardist in our church before but i switch now as soundman,i would suggest since you have the budget to buy at least a 2nd hand kboard amp with eq and output to mix so that matimpla mong mabuti ayon sa gusto mong tunog.

If the budget is not available at this time,i recommend you to buy at least a direct box for ur kboard.kc kung isasaksak mo ang kboard mo direct sa mixer maaring makasira ito ng speaker nyo lalo na ang high o tweeter kc dpat ma amplify o masala muna ang tunog na papasok sa mixer using kboard amp or direct box bago lumabas sa FOH o house speaker/monitor.

Hope to help my suggestion with your problem.

My Korg N5EX weighs around 15 lbs including power supply.

Tapos nagdadala ako ng sustain pedal, keyboard stand, music stand, power strip, instrument cables, song book, music notebooks, lapis, at flashlight.

Sometimes, I also carry with me a JBL Control 1E powered loudspeaker. More or less 30 lbs total already!

The weight of Korg X50 is around 9+ lbs only!

i was using a roland a30, a korg x5d, a roland sc55 and a roland p55 piano module for like 10 years..until the korg and roland a30 broke down na...so i bought a laptop and an m-audio 88 keys usb controller..i still use the modules in case of a software breakdown..

the reason for the catholic churches using electone/s traces way way back.  in the mid 1900s kasi churches (cathlolic) used organs... so un ung na instill sa minds ng mga tumutogtog( karamihan kasi ng sa cathlolic churches medyo may edad na ung tumutogtog kaya electone ung mga nirerequest pa rin nila.  but in the 1960's nagkarun ng Second Vatican II meeting which is called "Aggiornamento", ung mga nakaugalian na sa old beliefs ay medyo binago.  un ung time na ok na ung piano and keyboard sa church.

isa pa, if the parish priest is a "charismatic" type, ok sa kanila ung mag keyboard or piano, the rest, organ pa din.  in our church, we have a korg SP 100 and yamaha PSR 550, tinago na ung old technics na organ.  we even have drums sa church, complete kami with instrument amps, bass, electric guitar, keyboard, acoustic guitar...  in some Masses, we have a full band set-up...

Nilo Mangussad, isang traditionist) may utos kumbaga na as much as possible, pipe organ ang gamitin.

Special Guests nga pala ang P&W Teams ng JOGSGO Taytay at JOGSGO Angono, and also Pastor Arnold Pacis from WOL and MOF.

So sana po makipagcelebrate kayo sa amin. Pwede po nating maging EB ito. Come and be blessed mga kapatid. :-)

Church Keyboard player din ako sa Church namin, "Christ Jesus Our Life"
roland XP30 gamit namin dun. kapag walang available keyboard for sunday service, yung keyboard ko yung dinadala ko. kaso CASIO CTK-900. ok naman din siya dahil sa synth niya just because of Drawbar Organ key.

I am from Christian Bible Church of Las Pinas

Keyboardist and MD ako samin.

totoong masayang tumugtog para sa Panginoon.

Because of budget constraints, I compensate the church's Roland xp-10 and my yamaha cs-1 with reason 5 software. works great! sounds great!

The BSSM Philippines Team is led by Kevin & Theresa Dedmon and Matt & Lindsay Coil. Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry or BSSM is a school of ministry in Redding, CA under Bethel Church with Bill Johnson. The school is committed to the truth that God loves people, gave Himself for them and has given His Church supernatural power to bring individuals and nations into wholeness. The school is designed to equip students to live a supernatural lifestyle, not just minister in the gifts of the Spirit. They are encouraged to be naturally supernatural by bringing heaven to earth wherever they go. Every year we send out teams to different parts of the world filled with individuals who will be changed forever as God uses them to heal the sick again and again. We have a high value for the presence and anointing of the Holy Spirit so come ready to get filled up and to learn how to cultivate a lifestyle of encounter with God!

Come and be Blessed!

Got 2 stand alone keyboards. The main keyboard is connected to my midi interface into my laptop. the 2nd is stand alone lang. then I have a 3rd and 4th midi controller keyboards all connected to my laptop. all sound from my laptop is out to the audio interface which is connected to the keyboard amp.

tidious setup, yet fun! our band is composed of drums, bass, and acoustic guitar only. can do a lot with reason. Im trying backtracking now.

Hey Brothers.

Just signed up with our music ministry in Las Pinas, it's a catholic group for businessmen. I'm a keyboard player, mainly plays piano instrument for ballade music. Very intricate on soft music details, but not a note reader. I played by ears, and I'm interested to improve my craft. I know playing for Him is a serious task, and I want to do it right.

Would you suggest or recommend a good Music teacher who could provide me tutorial on Note reading for a fee? I'm using my FP88 Roland during performances.

Hope to hear from the other Christian instrumentalist so we could share notes.

Hello po mga kapatid,im abet herrera. .i am a guitarist, but i can play a little sa keyboard. .last night nagpost ako dito sa philmusic, that im looking for keyboardist. .may Christian band po ako,if you heard Jabez band po,at member din po ako ng mof musicians on fire. .missionary band po kami. .And this march po lalabas po second album ng band po namin. .but the sad thing is,wala akong permanent and solid keyboardist. .and can sing also. .sa mga ilang tanong niyo po.you can call or tetx me here. . 09336480282 or 09179315800 . .salamat po mga kapatid. . God bless us all.
