Is it possible to use a top/bottom hi hat as a crash cymbal? What would it sound like?

I have a friend na may studio. 1 lang crash nya pero may 2 sets sya ng hi-hats. Since may xtra sya stands and ginawa nyang crash ung isang hi-hat. Ok naman ang tunog. At least na-expand ung kit nya. Hehehe.

I've seen several in rehearsal studios. No budget for a new crash so they used either top or bottom hats instead.

But it's too hard for my taste!! Feels like banging a manhole cover!! Hehehehe

depende actually sa cymbal yan bro.. pwede naman kung tutuusin pero downside mahina xia due to it's size tsaka medyo bitin (somehow choked for a lack of a better word..) But if it adds color to your setup then sure why not?! 8-)

I tried using the top of my 15" new beats as a crash on a demo.

Ok siya, splashy sounding.  :-)

I think depende rin sa thickness and size nung hats..for thicker ones maybe you would experience the noise rather than the accent..am ir right?

yes sir tama po kayo.. it depends sa hats na gagamitin.. yung akin kasi, i tried to use planet z 14" hats bottom.. i dont liked it..  then i used the top hats of it.. medyo ayoko rin.. when i used my new beat hats, medyo pasok naman sa taste ko.. hehe

Unless the hat is thin/medium-thin, I don't think it would make a good splash when cut. It might sound more pingy than splash-y.

OT: parang ung sakin, crash nga lang, yung generic na fernando. tinapakan ko sa gitna(sa bell part) tapos bumuka, nagmukang china na mukang trashformer. ginamit ko as effects.

- around 3:53 niyo sya makikita.
