Hi, folks.
I am a PC gamer looking to buy my first ever console. I love playing fighting games and racing games most of the time, anything competitive. I wanted to get the XBox One just for Killer Instinct, however getting a console just for one game doesn't seem worth it.
For the PS3, there are a slew of fighting games available for them, like Tekken 6, UMVC3, MK9, MKX, most Street Fighter games, etc.
I was planning to get a PS3 since I haven't owned a console my entire life, and that I missed a lot of games like UMVC3 (which I've been dying to play for YEARS). It's a sad thing though that I can only afford to get the console in the end of its lifespan.
It did make me sad that I had to miss an entire generation of consoles so I can buy things for cheap.
However with the impending release of Tekken 7 and Street Fighter V, I'm also bent on the decision to move on to the next generation of consoles. However I can't afford to get two or three more consoles since I have more important grown-up stuff to deal with (bills, insurance, car, etc). (However I know that SFV will be released for PC as well!)
Hopefully you can help me decide.

I am also contemplating my PS3 purchase, kahit yung 2ndhand na slim version lang.
Unlike OP though, I'm not really a gamer, but I don't do just social games either. Sakto lang. Pero ang kaso, gusto ko sulit yung pera ko, ayoko maging obsolete lang bigla yung hardware na bibilhin ko.

I see it differently. Since you're purchasing the PS3 at end of its era, andyan na lahat ng possible games na pwedeng laruin. Pwede mo umpisahan laruin yun mga series from the start like GTA, COD MW, Black Ops, Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, etc. Yun mga bagong laro, pang PS4/XBOX One na yun. Next level na kumbaga.
Believe me, PS3 is quite an experience. Hindi yan kagaya ng PS4 na sort of "unexplored territory" pa. All possible games reviews and what not are all over the net already.

Ang huling alam ko, used PS3s go around P6k-P8k. And go with the non-jailbreak unit. Mura na lang naman ang mga used PS3 games.

May fb group akong nasalihan for ps3 ads. Marami may preferred sa CECH (start ng serial), siguro hindi ata sirain. Mas mahal ang jailbreak na ps3, but if youre planning on purchasing stuff from PSN its better na hindi naka-jailbreak. However again, may mods (daw) na kayang magonline kahit nakajailbreak.

agree ako to buy. i recently just bought a wii. i bought it for the wii sports kasi masaya siya for tambay with friends and stuff.
plus i got the complete set with addons for a really cheap deal. hahaha

I've had mine for 4 years now. 2nd gen PS3 yun sa akin. Used to be jailbreak, playing games through an emulator tapos nag-update ako ng firmware kaya legit na ulit.

whoah panalo!! I did see a Wii U in toys R us retailing for 6k NEW :roll: I'm looking to buy a used PS3 (the "affordable" version with the manual slide cover) from olx or Ateneo Trade (usually adik sale price dun mga mayaman eh :lol: )

Kapag nakabili ka na ng PS3, make it habit to play for only 3 consecutive hours. If you want to play more, pahinga ng 1 hour then resume your gaming. That way, tatagal buhay ng lens ng PS3 mo.

I agree with sir boxedking! kakabili ko lang ng ps3 ko sa greenhills a month ago.. all i can say is sobrang sulit, sarap mag laro, i purchased a jailbroken ps3 para mas mura ang games 50 petot lang ang padownload.. yun nga lang di ka makakapag laro online and di mo mauupdate yung games like NBA roster.. but playing diablo 3, call of duty, batman, the last of us sobrang sarap.. you don't even need to get up and change the disc since everythins is downloaded in my ps3. so to answer yung thread ni TS, it's worth every penny. goodluck nalang sa dami ng games, mahirap mag decide kung san ka mag focus first.. :-D :-D

ok lang ako, di ako lumalagpas ng 10 minutes sa isang console for some reason :lol: or isang level sa isang game. :eek: kaya ang tagal ko natapos yung Sands of Time sa PC dati :eek: :eek:

if bibili ka ng Brand new PS3 i'll discourage you. konti nalang PS4 na yun. go for PS4 na. :)

boss sonic 8k kuha ko sa ps3, ps3 slim sya with 2 original controllers.. i checked the unit itself free of scratches naman sya, of course wala na syang seal kasi sabi saken ganun daw talaga pag jailbroken although ang pagkakaintindi ko is software lang ang pang jailbreak but i didn't bother asking.. hehehe checked the controllers if it's charging and all it's buttons if working, yung multiman which is used to run ISOs.. i also checked kung newly added yung game, it needs to be installed kaya i checked kung gagana.. cables provided (power cable, charging cable ng controllers) wala syang HDMI cable included so pag may HDMI cable ka na no need to buy one or better kung bili ka nalang sa cdr king ng HDMI cable kung gustong maka mura kasi ang price nila for the cable is 350 petot eh.. tapos i asked about the warranty and they gave me a month to stress test the unit for any overheating issue.. and syempre yung HDD ng unit check mo rin kung tama yung sinabi nila, in my case it's a 250gig unit.. yun lang po.. advise lang din kung kukuha ka, better if you bring an external HDD for more games pero dapat fat32 yung file system nya kasi kung hindi di nila tatanggapin or kung ok sayo they will format the HDD.. and kung may dala kang HDD, better to be there early kasi may mga games na time consuming pag copy (the last of us na game took them about 2 hrs to copy)
kung san banda nakuha? medyo mahirap explain sir eh, basta from parking sa likod (covered parking) may mall tapos naka konek dun yung shoppesville, sa 2nd floor yun sir from dun sa may bandang chapel, lakad ka lang dun sa may mga cp accessories then sa left side yung stall, may mga ps3, xbox at ps4 DVDs na binebenta dun.. sorry di ko masyado mabigay tamang direction bihira kasi ako pumunta ng Greenhills eh.. ehehehe sana nakatulong sir.

Tingin ko, Kung solo player ka (into rpg or campaign games) okay lang since madami na game title na narelease for ps3 and since story line ang habol mo at second factor lang ang "next gen graphics" pwede na.
Pero kung ang trip mong games eh multiplayer, karamihan sa multiplayer games like "sports" naguupdate yearly! Pati graphics naguupgrade ng brutal. Nung lumabas yung 2k15 sa next gen, parang ayaw mo na ng 2k14. (Di pa naman kaya na ng pc ko yung 2k15. Kaya kaso low settings)
Sa price na 6-8k di na talo.

nah, I bought a brand new PS3 already. I've never been this happy.
advice lang pala sa mga bibili ng bagong consoles: focus on where the games are, not where the hype is. :)
although I will buy a PS4 after 4 years :)

although i'm biased and favor PC gaming more than consoles (save for the 3DS)
i think kung marami kang PS exclusive games na na-miss in the past 10 years, it's ok naman to go for PS3, since its prices significantly dropped after the PS4 was released.
but then again, kung titignan mo tong list (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:PlayStation_3-only_games), only a handful of noteable games (little big planet, gran turismo, God of War ascension) are exclusive to ps3. might as well get the pc version.

I was for PC gaming before, but recently a lot of nice games have a hard time running on run of the mill computers. talo cost wise and lalo na real estate wise. peripherals pa lang, isang secondhand PS3 na :|

yeah, lots of PC ports nowadays are badly optimized... specifically Mortal Kombat X, which took 5 long months of patching before the framerate and graphical glitch issues are fixed.

for FPS and RTS, talagang PC masarap gamitin dahil sa controls. but for most other things, console na lang talaga. mas efficient, maliit yung unit tapos di sayang yung computing power kung nasa ilalim lang ng TV. pero kung malakas naman talaga yung PC mo, syempre sa PC ka na lahat, gandahan mo na lang yung peripherals! :lol:

ang maganda rin sa console games kahit sobrang tagal mag load, optimized sya for a certain console, di tulad ng PC games, talagang every year may at least isang game na mas mataas ang hardware requirement kaya kung di ka top of the line this year, good luck sayo :roll:

all stock pati firmware hindi updated, below 3.5 pa.
san yung shop na nag jailbreak sa greenhills?
