Title: Search Function Errors *merged*
Post by: soundslikebryan on February 27, 2007, 07:43:22 AM

Forum administrators,

I know hobby lang talga itong site for you guys, pero sana nga maayos na ung Search function para mabawasan na yung mga repetitive posts.

At the very least, site veterans can point out to the newbies if the threads they start are already existing threads.

thank you

The search function gets busted a lot everytime the server resets. Something to do with databases getting corrupted and having to be reindexed.

As an alternative, you may want to try a Google search - apparently it indexes everything in Talk.

To access this, go to the site's front page at www.philmusic.com and enter your search term there.

Tapos gawing sticky?

The search from the main site philmusic.com works, pero its not as effective as it should be. Kasi pati yung articles na-se-search.

I know this is a free service to musikeros, kaya lang mas maganda kung meron.

Salamas.

Hmmmm, I don't think the google search is working as well as the built in search function as before. I have been trying the new google search but it doesn't return as much results. You will notice this when you try to browse the forums for what you are looking for and you will find posts not returned by google search.

Can we bring back the old search function please?

I will think about enabling this in the next update (I think in 2 weeks), but ONLY for those who are logged in. Ergo, for logged in members, they can access both the google search & the standard forum search.

I still have to put the google search their, because as most of you are aware, the standard forum search always need to be repaired.

But you should always feel free to post all your suggestions in this forum. This is what this is for.

SEARCH FUNCTION

SUGGEST KO SANA NA YUNG ISESEARCH  LALABAS LANG AY YUNG MGA SA TITLES NG TREADS
PAG NASESEARCH KASI AKO LUMALABAS AY YUNG MGA REPLY OR MINSAN SA SIGNATURE YUNG LUMALABAS *TULAD PO NUNG NAG SEARCH AKO NG "PRS BILLY MARTIN" LUMALABAS AY YUNG SIGNATURE NI SIR BITUSAN

O KAYA BAWAT FORUM MAY SARILING SEACH BUTTON..

the site tipidpc.com has a very pleasing advanced search engine where I can filter almost anything. tipidpc is a site that sells used computer parts.
i can filter from specs to price, so pag naghahanap ako ng within budget ko lang, i use the advanced search function.
pag naghahanap ako ng brand or specific category, i filter it then results will show.

its also very useful dun sa nagbebenta para malaman nila un standard bentahan nila sa item nila.

Title: Re: SEARCH ENGINE SUGGESTION LALO NA SA CLASSIFIEDS
Post by: inigo on September 24, 2009, 06:52:51 PM
I'm sure that suggestion has been brought up numerous times over the years, but for what it's worth (I don't speak for Philmusic.com), the way I understand it, TipidPC.com incur income from ads or something (they're a for-profit site), so they have funds to pay for stuff like efficient searches. Whereas Philmusic.com is some sort of philanthropic thing that Mr. Jim Ayson just gives for free to the Philippine music community (for which I'm eternally grateful), so funds are more scarce for stuff like what you suggested. In a sense, we're just enjoying one of Mr. Ayson's hobby. :)

Ayun. :)
Title: Re: SEARCH ENGINE SUGGESTION LALO NA SA CLASSIFIEDS
Post by: sjon014 on September 25, 2009, 06:33:11 PM
I agree. Also, TPC is primarily a classifieds' site. PhilMu is community-centric - the classifieds are just a bonus. :-D

Looks like the search function has been swamped with a lot of server calls. One thing that irks me are unneeded polls that take up server time rendering other functions inoperative, such as the search function.
Title: tips on searching philmusic
Post by: phfreq on November 13, 2009, 11:49:17 AM
may mga times lumalabas eh server error kapag ginamit natin ung search ng philmusic. Normally, kapag busy yung server lumalabas yon.

So, kung lumabas yon, eto isa pang way ng pag search

Maraming local forums (also using SMF) na may "add bookmark" function.

Sa tingin ko, makakatulong ito to lessen those kind of posts. Less bandwidth used and less unnecessary remarks just to follow one's thread kaso baka maging mabigat din sa load ng Philmu.

Suggestion lang naman :)

Yeah.
