Try panning your rhythm tracks, one to the left and the other to the right. Track them separately. That way, you'll have space for your lead guitars. It'll also add depth and dimension to your mix.

This.
Double tracking will give you a better sound. Record differently for left and right.

But what I normally do is record only 1 track. Then I copy paste to another track.
This will give you nothing but increase volume because the DAW is playing the waveform twice at the same time.
But if you move the other track about .025ms forward, pan left and right; then listen to the magic.

I do this if the riff if complex and timing is difficult

the delay trick gives me phasery sounds.

You can look it up more for more info.

Salamat bro! Hindi na nagcli-clip yung track ko nasa -7db. Pero feeling ko humina naman anyway meron naman daw ibang way para lakasan ang track without clipping. Yun ang research ko ngayon. :)

Tracking technical rhythm riffs is fun for me. It forces me to play clean and precise. Minsan di ko namamalayan, nagiging muscle memory na kaya at the end even if I feel tired and all, it still feels very fulfilling. There are a bunch of pros out there who even double track their lead/solo lines kahit shred pa. E di wow, di ba?

Nakakatawa lang, minsan mas malinis yun unang nai-track kesa sa 2nd one when supposedly it should be the other way around, isn't it? Haha!

This.

Hahahaha!!

Sometimes I never get the second track right that I just write an entirely new, easier line to work with, tapos yun ang iddouble ko.  Most of the time it sounds better too!

Sa bagay. Ung take ko dito
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3753440/Mark%205%2025.wav
was actually tracked twice.. I almost gona take the other part delayed kasi di ko masakto na pareho sa 1st part.. Pero I ended up taking it twice to hear the difference.

I always do the same. Practice muna for hours, minsan days pa (specially for the solo parts) before I hit on the record button. Kasi kung mamadaliin ko para matapos na and then it would end up with me not being satisfied tapos ire-retrack ko ulit, mas nakakapagod para sakin.

Here's what I do when double tracking guitar parts, may it be rhythm or lead part.

If the parts that I am recording have a "metal vibe", I record 4 tracks of guitar parts. 2 tracks panned @100%, the other two tracks were panned at around 30-60 percent, depending on the bass and drum parts to give the guitar tracks a "bigger" sound. If there are quite parts, then I only use 2 tracks. I EQ the tracks differently, 2 tracks more on high frequencies, the other 2 have more lower frequencies. Ganun din sa lead parts, although sometimes pag may mabilis na parts, I double track them to have an illusion na andameng notang naririnig, haha! I slightly move one part a few milliseconds to make it sound "bigger", and eq them differently. Although pag mga bluesy bluesy solos lang naman, sa center lang siya or slightly off centered, it will still depend on the instruments behind the tracks, finding perfect sonic balance siguro tawag ng mga professional dun.

When it comes to contemporary rock, I usually just go and record 2 tracks, panned 100% left and right. The lead parts maybe slightly panned to the left or right, depending kung saan madalas pumalo yung cymbals.

:) Sa mga experts po dyan, pahingi naman po ng mga malulupit na advices, here are some of the songs that I recorded, any help and constructive criticisms will be greatly appreciated.  :)

Yeah, quad tracking is another option for adding depth to your mix. Matrabaho nga lang pero it's totally worth it if achieved precisely. Think of the band Nine Lashes' guitar tracks.

I just make use of what I have bro. First, I don't have mics, nor a fancy tube amp. All I have is an ugly sounding solid state fender practice amp. So my only option to record at home is through direct. Basically what I do is make use of amp sims, may it be from my pedals, or through VST plugins like amplitube/guitar rig. Although I can't say na magandang maganda mga mix/recordings ko, I can say siguro at least "presentable" at kahit papaano "good sounding", at least to my ears. And humihingi akong tips lagi sa mga magagaling. I work at a major TV station, video editor ako doon, so kahit papaano may konti akong background sa audio leveling, kailangan kasi sa editing yun e.

1. CS12M by TWEST production

1. ReaComp - compressor
2. ReaVerb - reverb
3. ReaDelay/JSS delay - delay
4. ReaEQ - equalizer

Sana makatulong

Nice one sir!!! Will check those plugins later!!! :D

In terms of double tracking or quad...i double track for more clarity, quad track for a thick wall of sound. Pag lead parts, naka center lang tapos may widener. Or ginagamit ko yung cab section ng amplitube and widen yung room mics tapos taas ng level. Ginagamit ko din gantong process for bass.

When it comes to mixing naman, ang madalas kong gawin:

Sa guitars:
1. EQ guitars on seperate channels differently, may the other one be scooped mids, the other boosted, or yung isa mataas ang high frequencies yung isa mataas ang low frequencies
2. I always do low pass and hi pass para matanggal mga di kanais-nais na frequencies.
3. Minimizing using too much gain/saturation sa guitars. It doesn't make the mix sound bigger, it muddies it up. Nagiging malabo mga notes. What I typically do is record 4 tracks, 2 saturated, the other 2 low gain. It sounded massive to my ears that way. And find that "sweet spot" sa panning ng mga tracks ng guitars, yung hindi na-oocuppy ng ibang instruments masyado.

Sa bass:
hi-pass filter is a big help, it helps para "dumagundong" yung tunog. Well depende sa taste mo, sometimes maganda din yung "malutong" yung tunog, the way to do it is bawasan mo lower frequencies para lumitaw yung mid/high frequencies.

Sa drums:
Snare - add minimal reverb,
Toms - EQ and boost the lows
Kick - add minimal reverb din
Cymbals - delay and reverb big help talaga mga to

2. Napakalaking tulong din ng reverb dito
3. At e-EQ para dumikit sya sa track

Sa pagi-EQ, laging iba-iba at walang consistency. Depende talaga sa song, in my case. So they will become a song and not just a bunch of instruments played and mashed together.  :)

It's awesome. Hindi sya ampsim, CABINET sim sya.  :)

In line with the topic na double tracking guitar tracks, I recorded a cover of Sabbath's classic song War Pigs last night. :)

Anybody here having latency issues sa Amplitube 3? It's so unresponsive, There is a noticeable lag sa pick attack, kahit anong adjust ko sa milliseconds ganun parin, I dig the ''fat and life-like'' sound of it naman, SAYANG, bearable siya sa clean and dirt tones, pero pag may OD/Distortion, semplang na  :-( .......Ok naman yung mga ibang guitar programs.

Dati nararanasan ko latency nung wala pako USB interface. What I do back then is plug my guitar directly sa soundcard ng PC, then use ASIO4ALL. That's it.

Lexicon Alpha....I've tried everything...but to no avail

Amplitube doesn't give me the precise pick attack and low latency the way Guitar Rig 5 or TH2 does....
