My pro-audio books:
Handbook for Sound Engineers, The New Audio Cyclopedia - Glenn Ballou. A comprehensive audio and acoustics reference, contains good and useful information in one book  This book is divided into chapters written by 27 authors.

2. Sound System Engineering - Don Davis & Carolyn Davis. The textbook written by the husband and wife team that founded Synergetic Audio Concepts (Syn-Aud-Con), and pioneered sound system seminars. A MUST-HAVE book for anyone involved in sound system design

3. Audio Systems Design and Installation - Philip Giddings. Don't let the title fool you, this is the book on interconnection wiring, grounding, shielding and AC power. An excellent guide for sound contractors/installers.

4. Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook - Gary Davis & Ralph Jones. It's hard to find affordable, useful and accurate pro-audio references -- this is all three. A good book about sound system setups for live sound.

5. JBL Audio Engineering for Sound Reinforcement - John Eargle & Chris Foreman. A great book about sound system design and basic acoustics.

6. Rane Professional Audio Reference - Dennis Bohn. A dictionary-like book plus CD-ROM that includes abbreviations, acronyms, anecdotes, biographies, definitions, examples, humor, internet hyperlinks, idioms, initialisms, jargon, phrases, quotations, slang, trademarks and tradenames. Also contains technical notes by audio industry pros.[/list:u]

Hi po sa lahat, newbie po ako d2, not sure if this is the VERY right place to post my question. Is anybody here using a Linux operating system for their home DAW (digital audio workstation)? I have just downloaded and installed 64 Studio Linux 1.0. Baka meron pong marunong d2 sa Ardour(DAW) tsaka Hydrogen(drum machine) tsaka Jack(sound server). I have used cool edit pro and pc drummer before but i gave up on on using windows. I have used Linux for 2 years now and i am exploring the multimedia side of it just a few days ago. Baka may malupit na d2 sa mga apps na ito, baka pede po humingi ng tutorial just to speed up my progress. I salute Christian musicians here, hope to find blessed bandmates here, Petra Rocks!!! :)

Be wary of magazines though, coz there's a chance they might endorse some products just because the products are advertised in the magazine, and especially in old issues, the technology might already be outdated. :-|

That is fairly much a given, especially of the major american mags. I tend to favor reviews from Sound on Sound and TapeOp magazine, though. One should also go through sites like Harmony Central and Gearslutz for user reviews... like everything, take some of their opinions with a grain of salt.

One thing you can glean from magazines, old or new, are recording and production techniques because these are tried and true. As a matter of fact, most of the articles on techniques are rehashes of older articles, usually updated to include computer techniques. One thing I devour like crazy, is when they give out tips on software like Sonar, Cubase, Pro Tools and Live.

JAcob

In my opinion magazine is still one to two years ahead compare to new published books. If theres is a new technology offering in the magazine or any  cool technique before it will be printed in books it will take years. If I buy old issues ussually previous 3-6months issues still it will be useful. REgarding the reviews of new gadgets and softwares well its up to you if you are willing to bite their offer. Actually this is the only place to advertise their new gadget. YOu cannot see these advertisement or product review in billboard in edsa or any advertisement in Telenovela. If im going to buy their gadget I go to the internet and search for unbiased product reviews from the victim.

TO Kit C

SOS offered their old articles in their websites. REcoding MAgazine dont. Englishman are so generous  compare to Americans. I have this Recording MAgazine issue last August 2007 and one of the conributor there is Toby GAd the chart topping producer for artist like miley cyrus, and fergie. He is the  Co writer with the song Big girls dont cry. The article is about producing vocals. VEry nice how I wish I can post the whole article here.

I think I have that issue.

Yeah, you can't post the entire article without infringing on their copyrights... but we can discuss their techniques, though.

SoS is such a great and invaluable resource. Too bad their archives don't go further than 1994 and you can't browse any of the recent articles unless you're a paid subscriber.

i dont think xeroxed/scanned yung mga eBooks ko sir cause some of them are bought at eBooks.com and some are from my friends...But if you think i'm violating any rules here then hindi nalang siguro, was just trying to help some fellow PhilMusicians na makabili nang ganitong books fast and at a cheaper price... :-)

Hi, i would suggest this book to anyone who's venturing into home recording or into audio mixing and mastering bands in general. This booked helped me reshape on how to go around things and made me put my perspective in the right place whenever i'm mixing and recording.

you can get this here>> www.systematicproductions.com/mixing-guide.htm (http://www.systematicproductions.com/mixing-guide.htm)

enjoy! :-D
