Hi sir lateralis.
Pardon me for intruding. Im a newbie here and I hope you can help me learn my way around here. It's even my first time to join in a forum.
Im hoping you can give me some pointers on what to consider with regards to customized guitars.
I am really amazed at the photos of the guitars that Mang Max made. But I havent heard the samples yet. But im pretty sure all of the guitars sound totally amazing.
I talked to him this morning and asked for a quotation. But I dont know how to define the sound that I actually need. Should I go for single coils(Strat) or humbucker-driven guitars(LP) I am not into guitar pedals, my gear would only consist of a guitar and an amp, clean, a little reverb. That's all. We are playing a mixture of reggae/blues/ska..that type.
Which is better suited to my type of music? The Strat or the LP?
Which sounds better, chambered or solid body LPs?
Im quite a newbie with regards to guitars.
Honestly I think what Im writing you sounds dumb, but I really am still learning
and I really want to learn.
So i hope you or anyone can help me out on this.
Thanks .
Hi there kidoink!
Not a problem. I ain't expert myself but I'll be happy to share my knowledge about guitars & whatnot.
First off, you gotta know what you really want, what satisfies your eyes, playing & most of all your ears.
Like the other forumite said, you may go to local music stores (JB Music, RJ Music City, Perfect Pitch, Audiophile, PJC, & others) & try all the guitars that you want. Don't be afraid of the staff, just ask them politely if you could try their guitars (careful handling them though, as they might consider the guitar sold when it get scratched
). Play chords, solos, listen closely to the sound they produce.
Check which guitar feels better as well.
As for the comparison between strat & LP, chambered or solidbody, it's your ears that will decide. Go for what sounds better to you.
Hope this somehow helped.
Good luck though.
