hey Sherwin, Whats up man.

So maybe its the "feel" of the od?

The feel/response makes all the difference.

Interesting, since we can only dream of owning an actual Klon, can you say the Klone is the closest? in Feel and Sound?

I also have an ARC Klone. And last year I've gotten a chance to try out a Silver Klon and a KTR. Between the 3 I'd say they all sound the same, disregarding very minor differences due to parts tolerances.

The SF I have just sounds and feels different.
Cleanish tones are somewhat similar, but the similarities end once you crank up the gain knob. The Klon/es get hairier and bigger while still retaining the clarity and note separation. While the SF gets a bit Lo-Fi while retaining the volume, which is weird. It feels like you're listening to a low-bitrate recording of a klon, if that makes any sense. I remember observing the same thing when i first compared my Bad Monkey (which is essentially a TS modeller) to a TS808.

When you say "spongy" sir, what do you mean by that?

Spongy = Sag = Give = Maybe a bit less headroom = bit of compression happening at the start/front end of the note.

An overdriven guitar tone feels spongier than a clean guitar tone.

A distorted guitar tone feels spongier than a mildly overdriven tone.

Tube rectifiers feel spongier than solidstate rectifiers.

An overdrive juiced with 9v feels spongier than if juiced with 18v.

I don't know how else to describe it.

Which do you think would best suit Les Paul type guitars?

I've used a variety of overdrives with LP's with great results. What's "best" depends on how i'm using it and what music I'm playing:

For standard mid-gain / rock, stacked into my main Distortion or my amp's dirty channel I can live with any TS circuit.

For standalone ODs for blues rock etc my shortlist:
1. ARC Klone
2. Lovepedal E6
3. Fulltone OCD v.4

and some of the pedals i'm selling
4. MI Cross Over Drive
5. Maxon OD808X

The Arc Klone...

I'll do more research and check this one out.

are the V1 and V2 the same except for the dip Switch?

Or are they a different, like OCDs which have 4 different sounding versions?

Yes they're the same V2 just adds a bass boost internal dipswitch, which apparently according to the builder was the most requested mod from the original circuit. The switch can be internal or, for an additional fee, external. It's convenient to have the external switch if you're plugging into a different backline every gig, but for most people i guess it's just a set-and-forget thing.

sidenote: The OCD's are i think on V7 or V8 now if I'm not mistaken. The last one I ordered for a client was already on V7 and that was a few months back.

Yeah from what i read also the OCD V2 is very good but very hard to find on the used market. Probably because it's very good heheh. The one i had (which I sold--regrettably; been looking for one just like it) was V4. Which to my ears sounded better than the newer ones.

1. scour eBay.
2. Make sure of the version by double-checking the images of the circuit and contacting the seller.
3. contact a Philmusic middleman to order it for you. Or have a friend/relative bring it into Manila for you. Or send it via EMS if you're feeling adventurous.

#2 is important. Some eBay sellers (even the reputable ones) advertise one version but sell another.
In my case the V7 I ordered a few months back was actually advertised as a V4. Buti nalang the buyer was ok with it.

I tried a friend's Rockett Tim Pierce OD a couple of weeks ago and I almost soiled myself. Ang ganda ng tunog and feel with a strat and Fender DRRI.
I still have to try it with my amps (Blues Junior and Blues Deville) to see if it it's my OD [edal soulmate, if there is such a thing.  :-D

Havent tried bowtik ODs but I've tried several more affordable ones (BOSS, digitech, Joyo, Mooer, Donner and some other unknown brands long ago)

For now... Ibanez TS9, TS mini, and the Joyo Vintage OD

Though in the near future I would want to try an OCD or Fulldrive 2

Planning to get an OCD or FDII Mosfet,
I already have a TS mini (SRV style - volume full, drive all the way down, always on)
I have a Shredhead and Nano big muff
I'm looking for a medium to high gain OD pedal, which one of the 2 should I get?
By the way, I play a strat into either an orange micro terror or blackstar HT1RH
