Guitars are "large" luggage so they really have to be checked in. With a few exceptions, that is, if you happen to be lucky, some airlines let you hand carry them in the cabin. Otherwise, your guitar is really to be checked in. The thing to do is to put your guitar is a good, sturdy and flight friendly case, stuff the inside with bubble paper and ensure that the guitar is it its safest situation. I even bubble wrap the outside of the hard shell case. As long as you put good protection to your guitar, it will arrive in your destination safe. But again with exceptions. Accidents do happen. So, insurance would make your have peace of mind. I have lugged with me several guitars of different makes using different airlines (yes, including Cebu Pac - Singapore - Manila with a Gibby Les Paul Double cut I bought from Swee Lee) from different places, i. e., Hongkong, Singapore, Bangkok, US - the latest is my Gibson Les Paul that went from Sweetwater, Indiana to my hotel in Orlando, Florida, to Denver, Colorado, Los Angeles, Tokyo to Manila. On all my stoppages, I have to check the condition of the guitar, and so far everything was well. For as long as your guitar is well protected, it will arrive safe with you.
