Yeah, Kinetic is good... you should try its big brother, Project 5.
What's your budget for the soundcard? If for listening to music only, any card will do, but for serious recording, you have to step up to M-Audio, Emu or other similar soundcards. The line inputs on the 'blasters are too noisy for recording. The XFi, OTOH, seem to have problems with their asio drivers and latency, it seems. They make great gaming cards, though.
