i polish them only during new year's day and then let them rot again till next year

sir peeves, we treat cymbals EXACTLY the same....
clean once a year.
and let rot until next year.
hehehehe

hey guys,

concerned talaga ako sa technique ko sa pagtama ng cymbals, specifically the crash. may mga tips ba kayo na pede i-share sa tamang pagpalo dun sa crash? i've already broken 2 cymbals:

planet z 16" crash
zbt 16" crash

ngaun, nakakuha na ako ng pera and nakabili panibagong crash. its a K dark thin crash. talgang malaking pera ang nagastos ko dito kaya kelangan ko na tlga alagaan ito ng napakabuti.
paki share naman ng mga tips.  :D

tnx sa lahat!

EDIT: onga pala, joke lang dun sa ako nagbayad, parents ko ang bumili nito. =) yung detailed story ay nasa ibang thread, yung "b8's or xs20's?" na topic. hehehe. :D

Avoid metal-to-metal contact
Place a sturdy sleeve around the cymbal tilter rod when mounting your cymbals to prevent center hole deformation and cracking. Always use top and bottom felts.
(Cymbals can be damaged if not mounted correctly on the stand)

Keep it loose
Do not over-tighten the wing nut. A clamped cymbal will not vibrate freely and often sounds chocked. For hi-hats, keep the clutch medium-tight so that the top cymbal moves freely.

Play it right.
Avoid striking cymbals directly on their edge. Crash cymbals, especially, should be hit with a glancing blow, a little off center. Striking with a slight twist of the wrist also helps avoid breakage and allows crash cymbals to “open up”

Protect your investment
Always carry your cymbals in a padded bag or a protective cymbal case
Store your cymbals immediately whenever you break down your drum set
Wrap the cymbals separately with a piece of cloth when not in use to protect their edges and surfaces; be especially careful of the bottom edge.
Keep your cymbal away from extreme cold or heat
PEACE.... PEACE.... PEACE.... PEACE....

All Of the Above ! :)

I play in a Metal band. I use an 18" K Custom Dark Crash as my Main Crash. and I Crash-Ride it to hell. Its been with me for 2 years. No Cracks. No Dings. :) Its the way you play I believe, even weight plays very little difference. I crash ride my 10" A Custom Splash too :) ala Chris Adler :)

You need to put some swish into it.  Don't hammer it down.  Same goes for drumheads.  Play over the surface, not through it.

Omnicloud7, the Planet Z & ZBT cymbals that you broke are not designed to be highly durable.  So, I'm not really surprised that it got worn out.

hey guys thanks sobra sa mga replies.  :D

hihi tanong lang, anong meaning nung put some swish? hehehe, mejo mahina talaga ako when it comes to terms. sorry! :)

oh yah,

thanks ulit sa lahat, i really appreciate the advices.  :D

Swish... Tama si legnacilyz.  Put some swaying motion into it.

Inspired by the Moeller technique & Freddie Gruber, play drums with a graceful circular motion instead of a stiff linear motion.

Instead of boxing with the drums, dance with it.
