Sa Rock kasi, konting aral, research, ensayo pwede na. Sa Jazz "nonstop" ang aral, research at ensayo. Isa pa,MAHIRAP talaga!!!

one of the highest forms of music.

para sakin walang jazz compo na pangit pakinggan ..unlike sa ibang genre like pop and Rock na ma pi-pinpoint mo yung mga hindi magagandang pagkaka areglo ng mga kanta.

ako i love the music , as much as i try to inject jazzy licks to my groove i cant say i can play jazz as in PLAY jazz.im a funk bassist and as of now that the closest to jazz i can get.

to me listening is good pero to really learn it you must really go through all the hardships of note reading and all the book reading stuff.

i hope i could meet someone here to be my jazz mentor of sorts.

So accessibilty muna? Ika nga gatas muna bago karne? Hmmm...

Miles Davis' "The Birth of Cool" album (?) maganda. Kung smooth jazz Lee Ritenour, Fourplay, Larry Carlton, The Rippingtons, David Benoit, etc. Would Steely Dan qualify? Ano pa ba?

So kung ok kna sa mga smooth jazz selections. It's either you go two ways. Take your pick on what direction you want to go.

For me, it's Jazz/rock;Jazz/ Fusion. Di ko kasi maiawn-iwan ang rock.

Because jazz is not something you can learn quickly in 1 day, even 1 week or month, much less master in a short span of time.

It takes patience, practice, listening and a hell lot of soul

and insanity. It's a hard life being a jazz musician (thank's for reminding, sir aya!)  :-D

Jazz was originally invented by musicians with no formal music education (they can't even read notations!). Its not something you acquire from school, rather, you acquire jazz by living it. afaik.  :-)

I'm afraid i can't agree that jazz is one of the highest forms of music.

All music can be high art.

All music can also be crass, commercial crud.

Each moment is as the consciousness which perceives it. Each note is as the awareness which gives it life.

If the intent behind the music is high-minded, the music is high art.

If the intent is to make lots and lots of money, the music is something owned by channels 2 and 7.

If the intent is, well... pure in the beginning but redirected by a manager whose mastery of marketing is indisputable but whose ignorance of artistry is unsurprising, you have a singer who stars in tele-novelas on the side but who sings her own song (which she herself wrote!) out of tune on nationwide tv.

If the intent is to make the Filipino people as stupid as humanly possible, you get Love Radio.

(... it harts! it harts, yu know?)

Why play jazz?

Why play any kind of music?

Why love jazz?

Why love any kind of music?

There are no dividing lines. There are no borders.

God is love is music.

Why love music?

Because it's a magical force which reminds us of who we really are. Reminds us that God lives in us all.

Share the gift, share the love!

No matter how much we bash him and call him a sellout, Kenny G is jazz. And like sir aya was saying, jazz can be infected with crass commercialism and there is your perfect example.

hmmmm.......medyo nalito ako dito sir a...

kasi Jaco says that you really got to read notes....tama nman to be able to communicate w musicians better... yung ganun context ba?

so dun ko na-set yung utak ko na you gotta learn it to play it when it comes to jazz(fusion).
jazz improvisations ok pwedeng feel....
pero inisip ko pano ka makaka compose ng isang arrangment w/o writing it down on a staff?

well, you don't NEED.. pero i think it's an advantage. I think if you're that good, you don't need to learn notes or write it down. But then again, i don't know anyone whose that good. :)

i think with the comment of jazz being the highest form of music, i think he meant that every music can be just as complicated, as good, and as pure as jazz - it depends on how people will play it.

and if you wanna listen to Jazz, listen to Aya.  :-D wahaha  :-D

Ayan, nakuha ni RJ. Tumpak!

Skill is not music. Music is not skill.

Jazz is one of the most highly-skilled forms of music. But it is not necessarily one of the highest forms.

Skill doesn't automatically produce high art.

Only spirit produces high art.

We are but vessels for spirit to pass through.

The clearer we are, the higher the art.
