From http://rakenrolforever.blogspot.com/2008/03/pinoy-rock-trivia.html

DID YOU KNOW that the term 'Jeprox' was coined by the late Anak Bayan drummer and Pinoy Rock icon Edmond Fortuno? 'Jeprox' was a term used in the 1970's to describe male rockers who sported long hair and lived the rock n' roll lifestyle. It actually started as a shortened version of the phrase, "Jeepney Rock", which in itself described the classic and hard rock music that was being played inside local jeepneys at the time.

Mike Hanopol would later immortalize the term 'Jeprox' is his mega-hit "Laki Sa Layaw" in the late 70's. But it was the inventive mind of Edmond Fortuno who came up with the word which is now a part of Pinoy slang.

**It was also Fortuno's idea to write Tagalog lyrics with rock music which eventually evolved into Pinoy Rock. Pinoy rock bands of the late 60's and early 70's were only doing covers of foreign acts at the time and hadn't written any original material yet.

The Alternative metal band "Breaking benjamin" from Pennsylvania derived their name from an incident when their vocalist Benjamin Burnley was covering a Nirvana song during an open mic night at a club. He kicked the microphone stand over, breaking it. The person who owned the microphone came on stage and said, "I'd like to thank Benjamin for breaking my [strawberry] microphone."

from here (http://musicouch.com/musicouching/10-amazing-music-trivia-facts-you-never-knew/)

The song “Happy Birthday To You” is not a public-domain composition, despite the 1998 Guinness Book of World Records declaring it to be the most recognised song in the English language.

The melody was written, in 1893, by two kindergarten school teachers, sisters, Patty and Mildred Hill from Kentucky for the song “Good Morning to All.”
The Summy Company, who owned the publishing rights of “Good Morning to All”, copyrighted “Happy Birthday to You” in 1935 as a song for hire.

Eventually Time Warner Corporation bought the rights in 1998.

So now a single use in a film or TV programme will cost around $10,000!

Metallica songs:

Welcome Home (Sanitarium), One, Unforgiven, Unforgiven II and The Day That Never Comes; have some rip-off riffs from Fade To Black...

FTB, WH(S), One and TDTNC have similar build-up or arrangement...The intro starts out with clean guitars that carry into the verses, while the choruses are backed with heavily distorted guitars. The bridge speeds up gradually and eventually leads into fast paced harmony between the guitars and a long guitar solo by Hammett...

Unforgiven and Unforgiven II reversed the arrangement...

Gloomy Sunday" is a song composed by Hungarian  pianist and composer Rezső Seress in 1933 to a Hungarian poem written by László Jávor (original Hungarian title of both song and poem "Szomorú vasárnap" (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈsomoruː ˈvɒʃaːrnɒp]), in which the singer reflects on the horrors of modern culture.[1]

Though recorded and performed by many singers, "Gloomy Sunday" is closely associated with Billie Holiday, who scored a hit version of the song in 1941. Owing to unsubstantiated urban legends about its inspiring hundreds of suicides, "Gloomy Sunday" was dubbed the "Hungarian suicide song" in the United States. Seress did commit suicide in 1968, but most other rumors of the song being banned from radio, or sparking suicides, are unsubstantiated, and were partly propagated as a deliberate marketing campaign.[2] Possibly due to the context of the Second World War, Billie Holiday's version was, however, banned by the BBC.[3]

There have been several urban legends regarding the song over the years, mostly involving it being allegedly connected with various numbers of suicides, and radio networks reacting by purportedly banning the song. However, most of these claims are unsubstantiated.[4]

In 1968, Rezső Seress, the original composer, jumped to his death from his apartment. His obituary in the New York Times mentions the song's notorious reputation:
“    Budapest, January 13. Rezsoe Seres, whose dirge-like song hit, "Gloomy Sunday" was blamed for touching off a wave of suicides during the nineteen-thirties, has ended his own life as a suicide it was learned today.

Authorities disclosed today that Mr. Seres jumped from a window of his small apartment here last Sunday, shortly after his 69th birthday.

The decade of the nineteen-thirties was marked by severe economic depression and the political upheaval that was to lead to World War II. The melancholy song written by Mr. Seres, with words by his friend, Ladislas Javor, a poet, declares at its climax, "My heart and I have decided to end it all." It was blamed for a sharp increase in suicides, and Hungarian officials finally prohibited it. In America, where Paul Robeson introduced an English version, some radio stations and nightclubs forbade its performance.

Mr. Seres complained that the success of "Gloomy Sunday" actually increased his unhappiness, because he knew he would never be able to write a second hit.

Performers
[edit] Recorded versions

There are two English-language versions of the lyrics. The first, by Desmond Carter, was used in the 1935 Paul Robeson recording and a few others. Most English-language recordings have used the Sam Lewis lyrics made famous in Billie Holiday's 1941 recording. That recording added a third verse, not in the original Hungarian song, indicating that the singer was only dreaming about her lover's death. See links below for the lyrics.

Artists who have recorded or reinterpreted the song include:

The Beatles got their name from a line in the movie 'The Wild Ones'. Lee Marvin's character said the motocycle gang wanted Marlon Brando's charcter back, even the beetles (he was referring to the women in the gang). They changed the 'ee' to 'ea' so it was like the musical term 'beat'.

On his debut album 'For You' Prince played 27 different instruments.

AC/DC were featured on the front cover of the first issue of Kerrang Magazine, launched in 1981.

About 2,4 billion CDs are sold annually and the number of recorded CDs and blank CDs sold has been equaled. Around one-third of recorded CDs are pirated.

John Lennon sang into a condom-covered microphone to protect himself from electric shocks while trying to achieve an underwater sound for The Beatles hit "Yellow Submarine," but they never used the zany recording.

David Howell Evans, U2's 'The Edge' used to live in the Los Angeles house where Eric and Lyle Menendez killed their parents in 1989.

The famous long guitar intro to Led Zep's "Stairway To Heaven" is taken from the track "Taurus", which was composed and played by guitarist, the late Randy California when he was only 16 in 1967. The instrumental was dedicated to his Taurian girlfriend and recorded a year later by his band "Spirit". Led Zepplin heard it while on tour with Spirit in USA. (Randy Wolfe, was named "California" by his great friend of Jimi Hendrix, who tried to bring him to the UK, but Randy was too young at the time).

Paul Weller played guitar on Champagne Supernova by Oasis.

English rock band, Black Sabbath, formed in Birmingham in 1968 by Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, was originally formed as a heavy blues-rock band named "Earth", the band began incorporating occult and horror-inspired lyrics with tuned-down guitars, and changed their name to "Black Sabbath". The band has since experienced multiple lineup changes, with a total of twenty-two former members.

Rolling Stones guitarist, Brian Jones, played oboe on "Baby You're A Rich Man" by the Beatles

1. Did you know that Bob Dylan fell asleep while listening to the demo of Joni Mitchell's 'Court and Spark'?

JM confirmed this in a RStone interview. She said that Bob was just trying to be cute.

2. Ray Charles knew how to type. He could do 60-65 words in a minute...wow.
    His fave sport: Chess.

3. When Paul McCartney heard of Ray Charles, he had become sure that he had wanted to become a musician.

4. While when John heard of Elvis, he said to himself that was it.

Chuck is influenced by Teddy Diaz (Teddy didn't teach Chuck). He treasures a poster of Teddy Diaz kept in his room, which he got during his pre-teen years.

INTRoVOYS was mentored by Teddy Diaz. One of the songs, "Radio", on their 2005 release, A Brighter Day, was originally arranged by Teddy Diaz back in 1987.

Jeff porcaro played drums on MJ's best selling song "Thriller". Steve Lukather played rhythm guitar while Van halen took the solo in song "Beat It"

Freddie Mercury's real name was Farrokh Bulsara and was born in India before settling in the UK.

After the death of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham in 1980, guitarist Jimmy Page refused to even pick up a guitar for nearly nine months.

Randy Jackson, a judge from American Idol, played the bass on Journey's 1986 album "Raised on Radio."

NBA swingman Jerry Stackhouse has twice performed the National Anthem before Mavericks home games, and once during the Bucks 2010 playoff appearance.

On April 25, 2003, during a game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Dallas Mavericks, Maurice Cheeks, coach of Trail Blazers, aided 13-year-old Natalie Gilbert in singing the National anthem. After Gilbert forgot the words at "At the twilight's last gleaming", Cheeks rushed over to help her and they finished it together, as the entire Rose Garden Arena crowd sang with them. Cheeks and Gilbert received a standing ovation after the song was over.

The late former NBA player Wayman Tisdale was a smooth jazz bassist. He launched his music career with Power Forward in 1995 on the Motown Label. He recorded eight albums, with the 2001 release Face to Face climbing to No. 1 on Billboard's contemporary jazz chart. In 2002, he was awarded the Legacy Tribute Award by the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. In an ESPN internet chat, Tisdale said his musical influences include funk bands of the 1970s. His most recent release, Rebound, was written and released after he had been diagnosed with cancer.

The intro riff to the Metallica song "Don't Tread on Me" from the album 'Metallica' was borrowed from the song "America" in the movie West Side Story.
Lars Ulrich used to be a tennis player during child/younghood and played some important matches at European level with young tennis players such as Boris Becker.
Metallica's first ever gig was on 14th March 1982 at Radio City in Anaheim, California.
When the covers for 'Ride the Lightning' were being printed, an error occurred at the European printing press and a few of the covers came out green instead of blue. These days, the records with the green covers are considered to be extremely rare.
Frontman James Hetfield was originally in a short-lived band named Leather Charm, alongside bassist Ron McGovney (who spent only a year in Metallica). When Hetfield decided that his band Leather Charm should move to be more serious, the band broke up. Short after, Metallica was born.

Pinoy rock bands of the late 60's and early 70's were only doing covers of foreign acts at the time and hadn't written any original material yet                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          " i thought the word JEPROX eh PROJECT spelled backwards??????????

The word "gig" as in, "I have a gig", or "Anyone looking for a gig", comes from the name of a turn of the century horse drawn wagon. It had a large area in the back for carrying bigger instruments, such as a tuba and a double bass (standup bass). So musicians could be heard asking, "Anyone have a gig?, "Do you know where I can find a gig?" which meant they were looking for the transportation for getting their instruments out to the venue for their performance.

One more....in the movie "Woodstock", the song "Handsome Johnny" as sung by Richie Havens was written by (later to be) actor Lou Gosset Jr.

Hi to all

*Did you know guys na muntik na maging Lead Guitarist si Sir Francis "Brew" Reyes(former lead guitarist ng The Dawn) ng bandang "Mr. Bones and The Boneyard Circus", di nya tinanggap kasi ayaw daw niya ng may mga make-ups (masisira daw face niya), Black suite/s and Gothic Attires.

* Did you know that "Hawak Kamay" of Yeng Constantino hit song is not originally composed by her...(no offense po pero yung source and originally composed by a Couple from Bataan, yun ang kinakanta ng lalaki sa kanyang asawa pag hinaharana daw niya, binili lang daw yun ni Yeng before pumasok sa PDA.

* Wolf Gemora, original drummer of popular band late 90's Wolfgang, during that time, Wolfgang doesn't have a drummer yet. Wolf Gemora auditioned after he took Drum lessons in "2 WEEKS only". after that, Wolfgang is not active anymore in the music scene, he and Basti Artadi (lead vox) formed a new group somewhere in South America based called "Lokomotiv"
watch this
but after they launched their first album, Basti left the group and reconciled with Wolfgang which currently doing gigs ans stuffs esp. in Tanduay First Five with PNE, Sandwich, Chicosci, Kamikazee.

* Did you know that Aira Cruz (guitarist) and Vic Mercado (drummer) came from one band called "Passage" before Bamboo and Nathan Azrcon (Bassist) kapatid niya yung gitarista ng "Sinosikat?"

* Did you know Robert dela Cruz (if I am not mistaken) drummer of Skychurch, Queso, Intolerant and currently Rico Blanco solo album.

eto na lang muna po

Thank You  :-D

Dati may kabarkada akong babae sa UP Diliman.

Pangalang nya "Michelle"...

Hehe!
I really wanted to tell her....

I wrote her a letter.

Kasi kung totoo daw yun, i would've done something about it.

"Maniwala Ka Sana" at "Sayang" :)

kwento ni Chito:

Dati, pauwi kami mula sa isang out of town gig.

Laglagan na 'to!)...

Pinoy rock bands of the late 60's and early 70's were only doing covers of foreign acts at the time and hadn't written any original material yet                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          " i thought the word JEPROX eh PROJECT spelled backwards??????????

hippie days e madalas mga slang, like erap for pare, chokaran for Ka-rancho, bomalabs , tsaka yung linyang ALAWS AMELBORP! etc.

2.

Mini-Trivia muna tayo tungkol sa "Akala"

This song was release nung 2007.

For 5 years, tinago ko lang yung kanta sa isang notebook, thinking the song wasn't good enough to be released.

After 5 years, narealize ko na kahit di sya ganun kaganda, sobrang gusto ko naman yung message...so I decided to present it to my bandmates.

They liked the song and we decided to record it. :)

Buti nalang.

The song "Akala" became a single and was used by a politician for his campaign 3 yrs ago, and more recently, ginamit ito ng Nescafe for our tvc with Zendee. :)

And ngayon, ito rin yung song na gamit namin for our new ad for Nescafe, kasama ng internet action star na si Ramon Bautista.

Nasulit namin yung kanta.

Buti nalang sinubukan namin irecord yung kanta kahit nagdadalawang isip ako nung una...di mo talaga malalaman hangga't hindi mo subukan.

3.

Yun yung sagot nya.

4.

Nagsimula kami ng 1993.

Madalas kami magkantahan ni Gab sa classroom. Kasama ng isa pa naming kaklase na si Mikko Yap, we formed a group and called ourselves "Comic Relief". Wala lang. Trip-trip lang. Pakanta-kanta lang after classes.

December, 1993:
We were asked by our moderator to sing "Father and Son" in front of our batch sa isang speech contest (actually si Gab lang pero syempre understood na yun na kasama din kami ni Mikko...hehe).

Kinanta namin yung "Nakaw Ang Wallet Ko" instead na yung "Father and Son"

Nagsigawan sa katatawa yung mga ka-batch namin.

Dun na nagsimula ang lahat. :)

A week after our 1st gig, we were asked to perform in front of the lower batches, and eventually sa harap ng buong high school nung '93 xmas program.

Since may issues sya regarding his chances of graduating, Jeric decided na di na sumama sa gig/kalokohan namin. :(

A month later (April 6), we were asked to perform sa Club Dredd.

Mikko left after summer to study in UPLB.

Pinasok ni Buwi si Darius.

We were finally complete. :)

The following year (1995), we started recording para sa 1st album.

After a year, nilabas namin yung Khangkhungkherrnitz.

pa-share mga kapatid!

Radiohead song "Exit Music (for a film)" was played at the ending credits of the movie Romeo + Juliet. To the band's request, the song wasn't included sa soundtrack album ng movie. The song instead was made part of Radiohead's classic OK Computer album.

It's audible (if im not mistaken) sa 2nd verse ng kanta.

yan muna.. isip pa ako ng iba.

Pinoy Rock drummer:

Vic Mercado, former drummer of Bamboo told me before that he preferred 18'' or larger diameter Crash Cymbals for better reach.

But contrary in the case of a Ride Cymbal which has a standard size of 20'' or bigger, he opt for a smaller diameter. That is because with the same reason as well. Smaller diameter Ride Cymbal make you easily reach its Bell which is very important in its characteristics. Specifically it is a Zildjian K Custom 18'' Session Ride, designed by renowned session drummer Steve Gadd.

But after they disbanded last 2011, he also changes his drum set setup even the cymbals setup as well. He's often seen using Zildjian Constantinople Ride which is well known in having a larger diameter, a Hi-hat, and one Crash Cymbal. A different setup from what we usually see in his Bamboo days which has tons and various cymbals.

Perf de Castro leaves Rivermaya bago pa man gawin ang second album, so andun pa din si Bamboo sa 2nd and 3rd album at si Rico Blanco na ang nasa gitara
