Melody Master = Starclassic maple with special throwoff
welcome! hehehe
parehong high quality yan but you said the magic word: price does not matter! so why limit yourself to those two?
my impression is that your choosing a name when most buyers would be more conscious about the sound. there are a lot of other equally good or even better snares out there (some at a lesser price too)
research :D but first of all, what do you want to hear from your new snare?
ano yan collection? lol
bat dalawa lang.
id say the virgil donati.
or mapex black phanter. hand hammerd brass or traditional maple or birdseye maple. u cant go wrong with black phanters.
honestly u cant get the sound what you want from ur idols.
magugus2han mo lng pag narinig mo na.
kung ayaw mo ng high pitch, u need more than 5" depth.
depends sa tuning.
so i recomend blackphanters
just me.
yaman ka siguro 8)
Melody Master = Starclassic maple with special throwoff
1. Signature Snares or
2. Snare na kasama sa set? mid-high end (session, masters, starclassic, superstar, 3005, maple custom, etc...)
personally I'd go for the set snares... :)
wala lang just wondering whats the majority on this?

I choose a snare drum depending on its sound qualities. That's my top priority. Next are design and manufacturing qualities.
When I was shopping for my first high-end snare drum 3 years ago overseas, I could have gotten a signature model or a pretty non-signature drum. There were a bunch of signature models available then - Pearl Dennis Chambers model, Tama Simon Phillips model, etc. But I chose a 5.5x14" Tama Starclassic Maple snare drum because of its versatile sound and overall quality. I can use this drum in most musical settings, and it never let me down. And it doesn't cost as much as signature models. Not a bad start.
Now that I have a versatile snare drum, my future snare drums would be something that would sound different or would work in a specific musical situation. Right now I wish to have a small 10" snare drum, an all-around metal snare drum, and a piccolo. Sana makaipon tayo.
If I have the money and I want the ultimate snare drum, I would buy a Brady snare drum. It's my dream snare drum. For me, it's both a signature and a non-signature snare drum. They don't have any snare drum which bears the name of a drummer, but each snare drum that they produce is a work of art, handcrafted by artisans. Chris Brady himself supervises the development of these quality instruments. Their drums are so well-crafted and the wood used is topnotch. If you're curious about Brady drums, check out http://www.bradydrums.com.au/ .
When I already have enough snare drums and I want to expand my collection, I could augment my snare drum arsenal with some signature models and some rare models, for collectibility and valuable reasons.
Ang gastos ng trip na ito. Pero masaya hehe! 8)
Eh yung mga noble&cooley?
ano kaya ang pinakamahal na drums or snare drum? ung hinde vintage tpos in the market parin? cymbals narin! does anyone know?

Bwahahaha. Anyway, heres my another question.
Make sure that the snare strainer is centered to the drumhead. Also make sure that the strainer's straps/strings are tightened and mounted properly to its strainer mechanism & butt end.
In regards sa tunog lata na snare sound... I think it depends on the snare drum's sound character itself. With the 'clang' sound described, I have the impression that this is a metal-shelled drum. Mr. autoexec, what snare drum brand and model are you using? And what drumheads are you using?

Im using fernando with stock heads. Im planning to buy remo ambassador coated for it..

Yes, quality drumheads can make a huge difference.
P630 kasi may 15% discount.
Wow ayos! Gumanda tunog ng snare ko! Wahehehe.
Kaasar. Ganun ba talaga yun? Waaah dami kong tanong. Thanks! :)
The O-Ring serves as a muffler. It eliminates unwanted overtones.

I'm glad to know na nag-improve ang snare sound mo.
About the shell... I'm referring to its body.
It could be a wood shell (maple, birch, mahogany, beech, etc.), a metal shell (stainless steel, brass, bronze, copper, etc.), a composite shell (acrylic, fiberglass, plastic, etc.), or any combination of those. There's even a boutique drum company which offers drum shells made out of glass! Search for Orlich Drums on the web.
The O-Ring serves as a muffler. It eliminates unwanted overtones.
Thanks sir dio. Oo nga pala bakit pag nakakabit yung muffler, hindi ako makaproduce ng clang sound pag nag ririmshot? THanks~
XD sorry noob lang..Quote from: autoexec
Thanks sir dio. Oo nga pala bakit pag nakakabit yung muffler, hindi ako makaproduce ng clang sound pag nag ririmshot? THanks~
Hmm... It's most likely because the muffler is actually doing its job.

Thanks
You can still physically play a rimshot. Na-a-affect lang yung rimshot sound ng snare drum mo most probably because of the muffler.
A snare drum that I would recommend? But if you want a versatile snare drum, you can never go wrong with a quality, well-made 14" snare drum with a 5-6.5" depth, either wood shell (for a warmer, full-bodied sound) or metal shell (for more projection and cut).
Uhmm... pano po yung tunog ng more projection and cut? Yung full-bodied sound parang mejo gets ko eh.. Thanks very much..
Another question...
Thanks..
Projection... It will have the ability to produce a loud volume. In particular, kakailanganin mo ito sa mga malalaking venues, for example.
Cut... It will be heard over layers and layers of sound. For example, kapag tumutugtog ka sa rock band, with amplified electric instruments, thick-sounding guitar effects, etc., your snare drum should be able to cut through.
Lugs... Korek. Lugs nga yon.
Wow ayos! Gumanda tunog ng snare ko! Wahehehe.

nilagyan mo ba ng muffler yung snare drum mo? kung meron try mo tanggalin. nawala yung clang! nyan dahil mas makapal ang remo coated ambassador
Hahaha! I was hoping that somebody else would contribute an explanation. Anyway, warm and full-bodied are much more abstract terms for me, but I'll try to define it based on my understanding...
Warm... Not too bright & not lacking it. Just right; something that hits the spot. Like a beautiful-sounding vintage ride cymbal.
Full-bodied... Having enough richness of desirable sound qualities. Relate it with liquor - "It has that full-bodied flavor..."
Mas mahirap i-define ang mga ito. It's like love... feel... groove... You know what it is, but it's quite hard to put it into words. Hehehe I hope somebody can come up with better, more convincing definitions.
:P
My Artwood ......... and I recall that Anthony Dio also owns one.
Dito.. it was around 140$ ata... can't remember.. basta alam ko it was around that range... and I remember na yung ibang models they were selling it for 120$.
mga sir..
may pag kakaiba po ba ung 14'' x 6.5" na snare sa piccolo na 14"x 3.5"..?
tenks sir..!
yep derecho lang cya prang normal bearing edge hehehehe... ok lang kaya palitan ung throw off nung snare? kc ang pangit ng throw off sa kasamang snare ng fernando eh buti pa ung sa lumang steel snare maganda, ung sa ngaun sira agad eh...
DISCLAIMER : MATAPANG LANG AT MAPERA ANG GAGAWA NITO SA SNARE NYA. KUNG DI KAYO SIGURADO SA GAGAWIN NYO, WAG NYO NA GAWIN KASI BAKA MASIRA NYO LANG YUNG SNARE.
KUNG MAGANDA NA TUNOG NYA, WAG NYO NA GALAWIN.
veneer? 800? baka naman may backing board yan?
san yan?
laminated = backing board
I tried tightening the lugs na eh... Is this normal?
14x5 Chad Smith Snare= P12,999

dindin ur right wlang ultracast dito sa pinas.. :( and luckily salamat sa dyos i got to buy one sa labas nga lang
yeah i think the joey snare is an ultracast.. but i really dont like snares na malaki like 6.5" and im scared of numbers wth 13. so hehehe im into 14x5 heheheheh lol.
i woudl go with
pearl 14x5 ultracast snare
Tama John Tempesta sig snare
Tama Mike portnoy snare
Tama David Silveria snare
or a Tama warlord 14x5
well i just hope when u sell the ultracast 14x5 it wouldnt me very very expensive..

yeah 1st time i fell inlove with the ultracast snares were when i was listening to sevendust songs.. the new once though. i looked into it and found out that morgan uses the ultracast snare for live and recording. so i decided that i wanted that snare and asked my parents if pwde bang xmas and new yrs gift nlng hahaha. and since i good boy naman DAW ako.. pinag bigyan ako hehehe. (char!! lng sharing how i fell for the 3mm aluminum snare)
yeah yup i tried them abroad. sa singapore merong Tama dealer don eh so hehhe i took the opportunity to wack some snare there na maganda for free hehehe
Hehehehe.
Ah i see. Thanks po.Ah i see...

Mga Sir ask ko lang because I'll be getting Pearl free floating maple snare ask ko lang which is better size 14x6.5 or 14x5? TIA po.
anyone ever tried a 40 strand snare wire?
ok kaya effect nito?
sorry bro kung medyo off topic a.
siguro 13x3.5..
anyone ever tried a 40 strand snare wire?
ok kaya effect nito?
errr yes. what about?
May question lang ako about snare beds and bearing edges. What do you mean by "roundover?" Thanks! :-)
hehehe

hello po konting advise and suggestions po...i have just bought a snare from JB music, its a 6 lugs 14 x 5.5 fernando wood snare i have changed the head to remo ambassador x i just want to achieve the sound of tool's drummer's snare or even just to achieve the sound of lars ulrich's snare...ung tipong buo na ear splitting...na hindi magtunog lata.di rin kasi ako gaano kasanay pa sa pagtono ng snare eh...
good luck :-D coz a recorded snare sound passed thru a lot of processing in the studio, its hard to replicate it without a mic. no amount of tuning can make your fernando sound like your examples. its not that your snare is not good enough, its just different. you should have bought a steel snare if you want to get near the sound of lar's or danny's
Snare or Mapex Black Panther..... :?
ano po kaya?
ask lang po... Mas Mura po ba Yung Mapex Brass Snare(Pro Snares) Kaysa BP?
Thanks Po.... GOD BLESS....
Sir ask ko lng po kung saan nakakabili ng Pearl "Mastercast" hoops size 14 w/ 8 holes for snare batter side?..and how much it will cost?..tnx! :-)
OK sir..salamat! :-Dnaku!!
In general, that's right. The deeper the snare, the fatter it sounds.pano naman po yung mga snare na sizes 10"x7" or yung mga snare niLa joey jordison and chris adler?
pano naman po yung mga snare na sizes 10"x7" or yung mga snare niLa joey jordison and chris adler?
di ba maLaLim din po yun?
maple= warm tone, versatile,fat sounding
steel = for overtones
brass = focus attack
comments and feedbacks pa! minsan lang ako mag post hehehe
yown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! versatile ba?? pwede sa n.i at p.o.j at f.t???

thanks sir. I'll try na makabili ng hydraulic. =D
I tried Hydraulic by Evans, I would say, save your money, and get a Evans Power Center Reverse Dot or Remo Coated Ambassador or my favorite as of now, Aquarian texture Coated (si Vinci meron nito). These 3 skins are versatile enough, depende sa tuning mo. while yung hydraulics ng iba, one sided masyado, i believe di sya babagay sa ibat ibang music. Tends to choke when tight and dead when loose.but sir, how about Emperor X? which skin is better? dotted or not?
opinion ko lang.
@ addbot ... kung naghahanap ka ng snare na mejo pasok sa budget pero panalo sa tunog i strongly recommend na bumili ka ng mapex pro snares!! lahat yan below 9k 3 types of shells, brass, maple at steel! panalo sa tunog pasok pa sa budget! walang pag sisisi.... i got myself a 13x3.5 steel piccolo and it was a REALLY BANG!kahit stock heads pa lang ok na ok na!!! nakuha ko yun below 6k lang!!
but sir, how about Emperor X? which skin is better? dotted or not?
Thanks mondi for the suggestion!

has anybody seen the snare drum of Urbandub's Jan jan mendoza? Naccurious ako kung anong brand yun eh...SPAUN ata brand nun bro, custom drums parang truth..
I would sacrifice my left nut for a Spirit of 2002 snare drum
help naman,im planning to buy a popcorn snare, iniisip ko kung what brand:
mapex 10x5.5 steel snare: 4.7k or
pdp 10x6 maple snare:4k
give me your thoughts about this.tnx!
Mine is PDP Chrome over steel snare 10x6. Very nice pop and very focused ang sound. It depends sa genre mo and budget mo.
yung Emperor X mas OK kesa sa Hydraulic, but for me, makapal pa rin. For me, alin man sa dalawa ok na. Im not a guru when it comes to sounds, un lang ang sound na comfortable ako.
As said, Aquarian ako sa ngayon. Next time try ako ng Remo Ambassador Batter at ung CS (dot).
up mga bro. :-D
at sa wood na gagamitin pala, i'm choosing between narra, mahogany and acacia daw ang isa pang suggestion..tnx
does anybody have an idea if the 2010 models of the mapex black panther series snares is coming here to manila? Gusto ko kumuha nung machete or blade model eh. hahaha!
Pearl Sensitone pare merong dalawa sa classifieds :-D

ano pinakamaayos na snare drum for under 5k?hindi piccolo ahh
thanks :-D.nagtatanong lang. :-D
hehe, pero pinakamaganda padin pag tinaasan mo budget mo, mga 10k, mas lalawak at gagagnda choices mo, you get what you pay for :-)

ok naman yan for the meantime, idaan mo lang sa tamang tuning. this might help out!

mga sirs, do you thinks there's a difference in terms of sound, of omar hakim signature (not gold plated) snare than the gold plated one?...or is it just a color option?mybe you can shed some light on me about this. thank you po.
Remo Coated Ambassador or Evans G1 Coated on batter head with Medium Tight to Tight tuning.. That will do the trick :) That is according to Vic Mercado himself :-D
Minsan may moongel minsan wala..
mga sir im planning to buy a snare drum with a budget of 5-9k ano suggest niyo?
gusto ko ng all around snare drum, i play punk, alternative, progressive rock
ok na ba ang tama superstar snare? > 8 lugs, birch, diecast hoops
is it worth it for 8-9k?
suggestions? thanks in advance
want a warm sound? believe it or not, gamit ka ng may punit na head
i really thought the warmth came from the "vintagey-ness" of the snare until i cleaned it one day and found that a portion of the batter head was ripped off from the metal ring. around 5 inches long. it seems sira na talaga yung head nung bilin ko yung snare and took me 6 months to figure out that it was broken but it sounds really good it doesnt matter anymore.
In this aspect, parang magandang compromise na ang 14 inch.
:D
Haha tama sir, nakasagad na sa lowest setting yung height ng snare stand kaso matangkad pa rin ang mounting pag 6/6.5 -in deep snare, parang di pang pinoy/asian ang design ng snare stand...or maliit lang ako :?
tama stage series and gibraltar 5500 series both have low snare stands
If you can stretch your budget sir go for the black panther series nakaupgrade na din yung hoops niya hehe try niyo rin tama superstar snare nasa 8k ang presyo pero die cast hoops na :) i have a meridian birch snare maganda din naman yung tunog pero kelangan palitan ng hoops :)
Salamat sa mga nagreply!I've decided to get a PORK PIE "BIG BLACK BOB"!hehe budjet nalng.Ü
hindi madami yun, kelangan lang my option
Ay Evans po pala sorry :D
Yiz yiz salamat po.
Salamat sa mga nagreply!I've decided to get a PORK PIE "BIG BLACK BOB"!hehe budjet nalng.Ü
Maganda itong Pork Pie "Black On Brass"(BOB). Binansagan ngang "Poor man's Black Beauty" yan internationally. Tas palitan mo agad yung triple flange hoops ng S-Hoops. Yun na! Mismo na lalo ang tunog! Pang all-around. I always recommend Evans Genera Dry. Not the Genera HD Dry, but Genera Dry lang. It's a single ply same as Evans G1 and Remo Ambassador. Difference is it has a built in ring muffler with vent holes. Maganda sir.
Bob is around 9k-14k based on what I saw.

Pero maganda rin sana atleast 3 or 4 different made of snares para may choices :-D
Hmm this is interesting sir...I have 2 snares, isang birch and isang maple, what are the recommended snares to have kung 3 or 4...pwede ba ang let's say 2 wood snares, isang metal, and isang piccolo?
Sir maganda na snares mo. Those are the ''essentials" so to speak. Isang Birch, great for recording purposes. Isang Maple, great for live gig situations. Try to get some Brass shell not just a Steel made shell. One of the greats din yon like the Black Beauty and the Pork Pie Bob. You're on the right track sir. Not necessarily a 14x3 or 13x3 but atleast 13x7 or 13x5 will do.
Try to observe most drummers who has promising capabilities(here and/or abroad) yet being practical on what is only needed. Yung ibang marame naman snare na made of different kinds of wood or steel shells, various sizes, at kung ilang snare lugs such as 8lugs or 10lugs are just adding spice in their collection or preferred snare sound which is not bad at all. After all kanya kanyang free will naman yan eh. Kumbaga sa nilutong pagkain, yung iba gusto maalat yung iba naman maanghang o maasim o matamis o matabang o walang lasa.

anong music tinutugtog mo? asking for a snare recommendation like that will cost you a lot of money and frustration. kasi lahat kami dito sulsul-tant at mahilig kami magbigay ng unsolicited sulsultation.
snares are a very personal choice, ask yourself, do they (your snares) represent who you are? kasi kahit gano karami naman snare mo, may isa o dalawa ka lang din na palaging babalikan dyan kasi yun yung naririnig mo sa ulo mo at yun yung sa tingin mo e tunog mo.
and then one day, you realize nagbago na yung taste mo at hindi na yung sound na yun ang hanap mo ngayon kaya maghahanap ka na naman ng bago mong representative snare.
this happened to me 5 times already and i have 4 snares from each era. more than 5 snares na ko noon pero binenta ko yung mga weak snares. some are just better than others so i dont need to keep everyone.

Metal snare? BRASS na yan! :D
Nice snare! Hehe, for me go for magnesium snare! Haha, joke,
Check clips from you tube for snares, and look for the sound that you want from your
Idols, check the recording gear they have.
Kahit hindi specific I'll consider all of your inputs and I'll be happy dahil madami akong natututunan sa pagbabasa dito. :cute:
Ibang flavor kumbaga. Hehe
Ahh,you have a brass snare, mejo mellow siya ng Bakal like aluminum, hehe,Kung gusto mo steel snare yun yung punong puno ng overtones, for wood type, maple and birch pagpipilian mo na most common.
Mas mellow naman sila, the shorter the snare,I mean the piccolo type, dry ang sound niya, short yung sustain, pag mas malalim, mas may dating yung snare mo,mas May presence.
Hehe
Anyway, search funky drummers such as ?uestlove, Omar Hakim, Zoro, to name a few. Try to figure out what snares they are using in recording or live situations. Try to know more about the drummer, pati sa gears nila. That's one basic way to explore and learn. Being resourceful. Good luck!
Sige... gaganda lang ng snares mo bro!
Ako, I really regret letting go of my Black Panther Walnut 13x6 snare :| discontinued na... sigh...
Quwation, does the starphonic snare really sound like Steve jordan's Vulture snare? (i.e. Really deep and tom-ish) i always thought Wood Snare yun hahaha
Grabe!
Hahaha!! Any SLP G-Bubinga users here?
Hihihi

If you want that sound e get the pearl free floating snare na brass 14x3.5 ata yun yung size
Basta yung smallest depth. Medium tension.
Budget wise magkano ba?

Hwaw what a budget! kainggit...pwede pa ngang 2 snares mabili mo with that kind of budget
Haha.

Any opinions on the DW Performance Series snare? Ano comparison sa Tama SLP snare?
I've been reading kasi mixed reviews on the DW Performance Series. I'm a bit torn, if I should get something else. Of course price is also a factor but if Kaya naman and sulit why not..
