Rockstar Double Fat Strat Copy: DiMarzio/Ibz Bridge and Neck humbuckers
- I got these pickups from my Prestige RG, and decided to put them here because the stock pickups of this guitar were terrible. In a naturally dark sounding guitar, the neck pickup adds clarity and throatiness to the single lines, and the bridge delivers a strong chugging sound when playing rhythm.
Ibanez RG350EX: DiMarzio Breed Bridge, Area 58 middle, and Air Norton neck pickups
- With a sufficiently low action, you can get wonderful biting sounds from the relatively dark-sounding humbuckers. In order to increase the top end response, I raised the polepieces on one side of each humbucker which creates a slight imbalance in the sound that the two coils pick up. The Area 58 is an excellent faux-Strat pickup on its own, and combines wonderfully with either humbucker when in positions 2 and 4.
Ibanez RG2550EGK: DiMarzio Breed bridge and Air Norton neck with DiMarzio/Ibz middle
- This guitar is more neutral in sound compared to the 350, so I decided not to raise the polepieces on the humbuckers. The result is a slightly warmer and a bit higher output sound which works really well with amp overdrive channels. The DiMarzio/Ibz middle pickup is a lower output single coil which has a "glassier" sound compared to the Area 58, and provides excellent contrast to the warm humbucker pickups. The split positions are equally awesome.
Yes, I'm a bit of a DiMarzio fan
